** James C. Barclay

MASON CITY — James C. Barclay, 78, 55 Circle Terrace, Mason City, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 1998) at the I.O.O.F. Home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Robert Towner officiating.

The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

James Crawford Barclay was born to Paul Vernon and Katharyn (Mensch) Barclay on March 10, 1920, in Mason City, Iowa.

After graduating from Mason City High School in 1938, he attended Iowa State University where he was vice-president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

In January of 1942, he left for Bakersfield, Calif. to begin flight training in the Air Corps, Army of the United States. In February of 1943, he was assigned to the South Pacific where he was an operations officer for the 72nd Bomb Group, and achieved the rank of Major.

After completing 42 bombing missions he was returned to the States where he married Martha Ann Thomson, of Houston, Texas on May 17, 1944.

He was assigned to the Elgin Field, Florida, to be the Bomb Test Officer there for the Bomb Equipment and Bomb Testing section of the proving Ground Command. He was released from military duty in 1945 and in 1946 obtained a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Iowa. Upon his return to Mason City, he owned and managed the Barclay Company until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and was a past member of the Mason City Airport Commission and Rotary Club. He served on the Board of Directors for Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan and for the First National Bank of Mason City.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Barclay, of Mason City, Iowa; three children, Florence Diane Ratcliffe, of Southport, Conn. and husband, Rod; Wendy Katharyn Baker, of Stamford, Conn.; and Thomson James Barclay, of Mason City, Iowa and wife, Marianne; five grandchildren, Jamie and Katie Ratcliffe, Josh Baker, Reed and Adam Barclay; and one sister, Evelyn Canter, of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandson.

** Bertha E. Rippen

MASON CITY — Bertha E. Rippen, 90, of 302 2nd N.E., Mason City, died Friday morning (Nov. 20, 1998).

** Marion Hardman

GREENE — Funeral services for Marion Hardman, 96, of 502 West Traer, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, in Greene, with Pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Greene.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday until service time at the chapel.

Marion Merrick was born Aug. 21, 1902, in Scott Township, Floyd County, Iowa, a daughter of John Arthur and Addie Irene (Wilson) Merrick, and died Thursday (Nov. 19, 1998) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, in Charles City.

As a young girl, her family moved to Greene where she attended the Greene Public Schools graduating in 1920. She attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years and then taught in Marion and later Mason City until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Schuyler Royal Hardman on Oct. 26, 1928, in Mason City. They made their home in Greene where she was employed as Assistant Librarian for nine years and Librarian for 16 years retiring in 1972. She had been a resident of the Chautauqua Guest Home since 1996.

Mrs. Hardman was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Greene and served faithfully in many of the church offices and Ladies Aid Society.

Living family members include her two sons, John and his wife, Rachel Hardman, of Charles City and Edward Hardman, of Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren, Chad, Jeff, Darcie, Mark, Stephen and Erin; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Balderson, of Keosauqua and Maxine Merrick, of Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 24, 1966; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Hardman on Nov. 17, 1998; her parents; and one sister, Lucille Merrick in 1911.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Marion Hardman Memorial Fund in care of the family.


** Ida Electra Amundson

CLEAR LAKE — Ida Electra Amundson, 106, of Story City, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 1998) at the Mary Greeley Hospital, in Story City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until time of services at the church.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 102 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Ida Electra Amundson was born on March 2, 1892, in Radcliffe, the daughter of Lewis and Martha E. (Engelson) Amundson. She was baptized in the Nazareth Lutheran Church west of Radcliffe and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Radcliffe.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught three years in rural schools in her community in Radcliffe. She also attended Mankato Business College and was employed in Minneapolis and Chicago for 17 years doing general office work and proof-reading. During World War II, she was employed in an Oakland, California, shipyard.

Since the death of her parents (her father died in 1947 and her mother in 1966), she had resided in Clear Lake with her sister, Mabel, until Mabel entered Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City in April of 1982. Ida then lived nearby until she entered Bethany Manor on April 12, 1989.

She enjoyed doing family genealogy and cooking.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and the Church circle.

Left to cherish her memory is a sister, Harriet Olsen, of Marshalltown; a brother, Leroy Amundson, of Kensett; several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mrs. Julius (Josephine) Heng; Mrs. Henry (Amy) Linn; Mrs. Martin (Laura) Rickman; Mabel Amundson; and brothers, Thomas and Oscar Amundson.


** James 'Jim' Otis Hammond

CLEAR LAKE — James "Jim" Otis Hammond, 85, of Clear Lake, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Facility, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis, of United Methodist Church, officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and one hour prior to service time on Sunday.

Jim was born July 11, 1913, at Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Stephen and Anna (Anderson) Hammond. Jim attended and graduated from Clear Lake schools.

After high school, he moved to California where he worked in an aircraft facility prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Pogy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Jim married Dorothy Virginia McNevin in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1943. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1991.

Following his honorable discharge, he and Dorothy moved back to Clear Lake and farmed on the family farm. He farmed until 1963, moving into Clear Lake. Jim worked as an independent auto parts distributor in Clear Lake until his retirement in 1996.

His hobbies were visiting with family and friends, Civil War history, collecting antiques, and he enjoyed children.

Jim is survived by one sister-in-law, Lois Hammond, of Clear Lake; six nieces and nephews, Verna Jean McCleary, of Clear Lake; Linda Hancock and her husband, Phillip, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Debbie Rodemaker and her husband, David, of Mason City; Jaci Hammond, of Clear Lake; Rita Miller and her husband, Wayne, of Missouri Valley; Steve Hammond and his wife, Diane, of Ankeny; seven great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; one sister, Verna Thompson; three brothers, Guy Warner, Rodney Hammond and Arlen Hammond, who died in infancy.


** Lowell 'Bud' C. Friest

VENTURA — Lowell "Bud" C. Friest, 75, of Ventura, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, in rural Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Bud was born at Big Lake, Minn., on Sept. 1, 1923, the son of Adolph M. and Anna (Zielske) Friest. The family moved to Ledyard, Iowa (Lakota area), then later settled on a farm west of Leland. He was baptized and confirmed at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, Leland.

He married Ruth A. Norstrud on Sept. 2, 1945, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army before the Korean conflict.

After the service, they lived in Forest City, where he worked as a commercial sprayer. Later they farmed in the Clear Lake-Ventura area for over 40 years.

After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, reading and snowmobiling.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Ruth Friest, of Ventura; two daughters, Gail D. Friest, Clive, Iowa; and Sheryl L. Payne, of Muscatine; two sons, Dennis G. Friest, of Leland and Gordon W. Friest, of Maplewood, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Lynette R. Cabrera, of Del Valle, Texas; Erin and Anna Payne, of Muscatine; Derek and Melinda Friest, of Mason City; Stephanie and Priscilla Friest, of Cottage Grove, Minn.; three sisters, Louise Metz, of Swea City, Iowa; Thelma Higgins, of Titonka, Iowa; and Elida Tapper, of Lake Mills, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Duane Kieth Friest; and two brothers, Marshall Friest and Adolph Friest Jr.


** Adeline C. Berte

ST. JOSEPH — Adeline C. Berte, 92, of 1050 Highway 169, died Thursday (Nov. 19, 1998) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Joe, with the Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Adeline C. Berte was born July 13, 1906, in Alton.

Survivors include her husband, Alphons Berte, of St. Joe; three daughters, Irene Mae Reding and Mary Ann Grimm, both of Algona, and Theresa Jane Becker, of Port Isabella, Texas; two sons, Vernon Berte and James Berte, both of Bode; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, and three sisters.


** Phyllis Rhubee

BUFFALO CENTER — Phyllis Rhubee, 89, of Buffalo Center, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, where other arrangements are incomplete.

MASON CITY — Glen R. Jacobson, 71, of 303 18th St. S.E., died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

** Janette M. Rasmussen

HAMPTON — Janette M. Rasmussen, 93, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at the Algona Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hampton, with the Rev. Gregory Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Janette M. Rasmussen was born Sept. 30, 1905, in Butler County.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, five brothers, and eight sisters.

Phyllis Margaret Rhubee was born Oct. 22, 1909, near Buffalo Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Johnson of Thompson, and Norma Olson of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Myron Thompson of Albert Lea, Minn., and Ernest Thompson of New Richland, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, two sisters, and two brothers.


** Bernard C. Hagedorn

OSAGE — Bernard C. Hagedorn, 77, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Hill officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Bernard C. Hagedorn was born Dec. 21, 1920, near Riceville.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Krause of Stratford; one son, Dennis Hagedorn of Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Dorothy Semm of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


** Burdette O. Baldwin

CHARLES CITY — Burdette O. "Burt" Baldwin, 80, of Charles City, formerly of Nashua, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens with graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Fischer Thompson Post #153 and the VFW Post #6792 of Nashua.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rosary Society and St. Theresa's Circle will recite the rosary at 3 p.m., and there will be a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Charles City; two children, James C. Baldwin of Waterloo, and Kim Baldwin of Charles City; seven step-children, Sandra Kirchhof of Red Wing, Minn., Margaret Hoyt of Davenport, Jean Lytle of Lakewood, Colo., Steven Hebert of Madrid, David Hebert of Ankeny, Sara Ioens of Dunkerton, and Michael Hebert of Clovis, N.M.; three brothers, Willis Baldwin of Charles City, Clark Baldwin of Greeley, Colo., and Dwight Baldwin; two sisters, Lois Newman of Charles City, and Helen Hirsch of Rockwell; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 23 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a stepson.

MASON CITY — Marvin A. Lauen, 84, of 124 S. Hampshire Place, died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

** Glen R. Jacobson

MASON CITY — Glen R. Jacobson, 71, of 303 18th St. S.E., died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Burial will be in the Madison Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Glen R. Jacobson was born Oct. 14, 1927, in rural Britt, the son of Charles and Mary (Render) Jacobson.

After leaving the Merchant Marines, Glen married Vera Lonning on Feb. 22, 1949, at the Crystal Lake Methodist Church. They farmed for a short time after their marriage, and then Glen began working as an auto body mechanic, first in Britt, and later in Mason City with S and R Auto and Mason City Auto Body.

Glen enjoyed being a volunteer fireman with the Britt Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and extended family. He was actively involved with Boy Scout Troop 12, and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1971.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vera Jacobson of Mason City; three children, Jane Love and her husband, Thomas, and their children, Nikki Moore and her husband, Shep, and Travis Love, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Donna Lucas and her husband, Michael, and their daughter, Kim Lucas, of Cedar Falls; and Charles Jacobson of Webster City; one sister, Karen Reindl and her husband, Kay, of Manly; his mother-in-law, Mildred Lonning of Britt; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Floyd E. Folsom

Floyd E. Folsom, 74, of 410 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at the IOOF Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Patterson-James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Bill Backlin of Mason City Covenant Church, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Floyd was born on June 3, 1924, in Mason City, the son of Clarence and Hattie (Grelk) Folsom. He attended school in Mason City and Rush City, Minn. He entered into the service of his country with the Navy serving in the Atlantic near Cuba. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Rush City to assist on the family farm. Floyd was married to Julia Belle Osgood in October of 1946 at Stacy, Minn. In the late 1940s he moved to Mason City to work as a repairman at Lehigh Portland Cement Company where he continued working for 30 years and retired in 1978. He then moved to the Pine Cove Resort at Brainerd, Minn., to help his mother with the resort. In 1996, he moved back to Mason City. Floyd was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He taught his love of golf to his three grandsons. Later in life when he was unable to play golf he kept up his interest by watching it on television. He was a life member of the VFW in Brainerd, transferring his membership from Mason City when he moved. He also was a member of the American Legion in New Hope, Minn.

Floyd is survived by his three children Martha and her husband, David Eenhuis, of Plymouth, Minn., Richard and his wife, Gina Folsom, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mark and Cay Folsom of Mason City; one sister, Shirley and her husband, Trig Albertson, Merrifield, Minn.; one brother, Clarence and his wife, Charolette Folsom Jr., of Palentine, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Brett, Joe and his wife, Carol, and Brandon Eenhuis, John Folsom, Jessica and her husband Dave White, Kris Lester, Rachel and her husband, Alby Winters, Sarah and Abby Pierce; and five great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, and his wife.


** Ron M. Ives

MASON CITY — Ron M. Ives, 87, died Friday (Nov. 20, 1998) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will continue until noon on Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or Wesley United Methodist Church.

Ron M. Ives was born May 3, 1911, in Casey, the son of John and Olive (Reese) Ives. Ron attended Casey schools and graduated from Casey High School in 1928. He then graduated from Simpson College in 1932. Ron then taught school and instrumental music in Toledo and in western Iowa. Ron served during World War II in the U.S. Army in Hawaii and was a member of the Ground Band. After the service Ron moved to Mason City in 1947, and worked for the Iowa State Employment Service until he retired in 1983. Ron married Lois Reed on Sept. 13, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ron and Lois enjoyed traveling and traveled through all 50 of the United States and throughout Europe. In later years, Ron enjoyed eating out and attending events with his friend, Ruth Smith. Ron was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, The Golden Agers, Senior Chamber of Commerce, Hawkeye Camera Club, Executive Club, and was a Master Gardener.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ives of Mason City; two nephews, Richard Antrim of Solon, and Robert Antrim of Rochester, Ill.; and a cousin, Helen Looper of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, in 1991; one sister, Virginia in infancy; and another sister, Marjorie Antrim.

Bertha was born on July 28, 1908, at Rockwell, the daughter of Bernard J. and Patria Marie (Kock) Berding. She attended country school near Rockwell. She was united in marriage to Herman Rippen on Sept. 21, 1925, at DeKalb, Ill. She worked on the farm with her husband and then owned and operated several restaurants in the Mason City area, including the Dutch Inn, Do-Drop Inn and the Clear Lake Truck Stop. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the LCW. She enjoyed fishing at Battle Lake, Minn., socializing with her friends and family and hand crocheting.

Bertha is survived by her only son, Russ Rippen of Rock Falls; two grandchildren, Lance Rippen of Mason City and Susan and her husband, Darin MacDonald, of Johnston; three brothers, Alfred and his wife, Marie Berding, of Plymouth, Robert and his wife, Elsie Berding, of Council Bluffs, and Alvin and his wife, Irene Berding, of Mason City.

Bertha was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; one sister, Freda Clark; and two brothers, John and Ed Berding.

Lucille (Finnegan) Evans was born Dec. 22, 1918 on a farm three miles northeast of Swaledale, the daughter of Carroll and Kathryn (McCauley) Finnegan. She graduated from Swaledale public schools and received a teaching certificate from Mason City Junior College. She married Arden S. Evans.

After spending her first year of teaching in a one-room country school, she taught at St. Joseph Elementary School for several years. She also taught at schools in Des Moines, Waterloo, and Wayzata, Minn. and other Minneapolis and suburban parochial schools.

She was a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, and a current member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Medina, Minn. She was also a precinct caucus chairman.

Survivors include one daughter, Kaye (Evans) Erickson, of Minneapolis; two sons, Bob Evans, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Bill Evans, of Soldotna, Alaska; one brother, Richard Finnegan, of Apple Valley, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Scott Erickson, of Greenfield, Minn.; Gregg Erickson, of Salt Lake City; Mark Erickson, of Minneapolis; Carley Evans and Amy Evans, both of Soldotna, Alaska; Samuel Evans and "Mac" W.M.F. Lyle L. Weaver was born Oct. 8, 1919, in Mason City, the son of Frank and Alice (Meyers) Weaver. Lyle attended country school near Rockwell.

Lyle enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, serving overseas and was honorably discharged. He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway as a locomotive engineer for 35 years, retiring in 1984. Lyle married Theresa Kruse on Nov. 14, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Lyle was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a lifelong resident of the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa G. Weaver, of Mason City; one son, John E. Weaver, of Minneapolis; two daughters, Patricia A. Marsh, of Cable, Wis.; and Della E. Weaver, of Mason City; one granddaughter, Jessica E. Marsh; and one grandson, Trevor J. Marsh; and one 1976 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle.

Dorothy worked as a housekeeper at the Travelodge Motel for 13 years retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, U.M.W., church circle, Wesley Golden Agers and several card clubs.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Duane G. DeVary and his wife, Barbara, of Mason City; Virgil D. DeVary and his wife, Dorothy, of Garner; and James L. DeVary and his wife, Dorothy, of Rockwell; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley, with Father Louis Studer and Father Paul Bormann officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Ackley.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Aloysius Nathan Richtsmeier was born on Feb. 22, 1898 at Robertson, Iowa, in Hardin County to Jacob Vincent and Bertha Frances Studer Richtsmeier. He received his education in the Robertson School.

Al was married to Anastasia Ella Cloonen on June 14, 1927 at Zearing, Iowa. The couple farmed near Robertson until moving to Wesley, Iowa in 1939. Al and Anastasia remained on their farm after Al retired in 1964.

They enjoyed traveling around the United States, also to Alaska, Ireland and Australia. Al's hobby was woodworking and he delighted in sharing it with anyone.

Al's wife, Anastasia, preceded him in death in 1986. Al has lived in the Twin Cities area since 1991, mostly recently at the Heritage Care Center, Edina, Minn.

Al was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8610, at Britt, Iowa.

Al is survived by two sons, David V. Richtsmeier and his wife, Marlene, of Lakeville, Minn.; Robert J. Richtsmeier and his wife, Donna, of Maple Grove, Minn.; and four daughters, Alice B. Baciulis and her husband, Joseph, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Patricia A. Schmitt and her husband, Paul, of Churdan, Iowa; Frances E. Engstrom and her husband, Stanley, of Plymouth, Minn.; and Janice M. Bauer and her husband, Michael, of Cushing, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice Richtsmeier, of Ackley, Iowa, and Anthony Richtsmeier, of Madison, Wis.; three sisters, Sister M. Bertha, OSF, Campbellsport, Wis.; Marie Sauter, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Edna Draude, of Waterloo, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Earl Strahorn, of Detroit, Mich.

Al was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Marilyn Theresa in 1935; his parents; brother, Clarence; sisters, Clara and Mira; and a brother, Jacob and a sister, Gertrude, who died as infants.

Hazel Mae Peterson was born on Feb. 19, 1909, in Buffalo Center, the daughter of John and Alice (Bicker) Honken. She reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith.

She attended and received her education in the Buffalo Center, Rake and Thompson area. After completing her schooling, she helped as an assistant with helping of the delivery of babies, and also helped take care of the mothers and babies after the delivery.

She was united in marriage to Arthur O. Peterson on Feb. 27, 1933, in Rake. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1984.

After their marriage together they farmed in the North Iowa area for several years until their retirement when they moved into Northwood. Hazel had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home since 1986.

She enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, geese and raising English Bulldogs.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, in Northwood, and the Northwood Senior Citizens Center.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ardis Langfald and her husband, Ronald, of Lake Mills; Charles Peterson and his wife, Sharon, of Northfield, Minn.; and Merle Peterson and his wife, Sylvia, of Hanlontown; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Honken, of Buffalo Center; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Arthur; she was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Roger Honken; foster son, Ed Lippstock; and four brothers, Harry, Alvin, Ralph and Johnny.

Addie Mae Hartmann was born June 15, 1921, the daughter of James and Hazel Vought. She married John William Hartmann on Nov. 19, 1941, in Albert Lea, Minn.

Addie graduated from Gilmore City High School and then from Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

She was a longtime employee of First National Bank until retiring in 1981.

She was an avid book reader and she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Dian Glaser and her husband, Jerry, of Bloomington, Minn., and Margaret Johnson and her husband, Steve, of Kettle Falls, Wash.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Vought, of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1964; one brother and one sister.

MASON CITY — Marvin A. Lauen, 84, of 124 S. Hampshire Place, died Oct. 29, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils "Chris" Hellevik officiating. He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Norma, of Mason City; a sister, Marie Lauen, of Belmond; a brother, Harry Lauen and his wife, Lois, of St. Paul, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Susan Ruth Weaver was born Aug. 18, 1921 in rural Nora Springs, daughter of William Frank and Alma (Casperson) Paulus. She married Harold Edward Weaver on Sept. 6, 1941, in Rockford.

Ruth grew up in the Rockford area. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Cartersville area for a short while and then they moved to Rockwell. She worked at the Rockwell Nursing Home for three years and then worked at Rockwell School in the hot lunch program for 17 years until retiring in 1990.

Ruth enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, shopping and playing cards with her friends. She loved being with her grandchildren.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Duane G. DeVary and his wife, Barbara, of Mason City; Virgil D. DeVary and his wife, Dorothy, of Garner; and James L. DeVary and his wife, Dorothy, of Rockwell; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eldon; five brothers; one sister; and one grandchild, Timothy James.


** Terry R. Hanson

DUNCAN — Terry R. Hanson, 49, of Duncan, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, in Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. His body will be cremated following services.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Britt.

Terrill Roger Hanson, the son of Roger and LaVonne (Clark) Hanson was born Nov. 17, 1949, at Belmond. He attended school at Belmond and then started driving truck.

He worked for numerous trucking companies in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.

On Dec. 2, 1989, he was married to Diane Martie at the Nazarene Church, in Britt.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, his pets and his antique bicycle collection.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hanson, of Duncan; a daughter, Dawn Gayken and her husband, Todd, of Britt; a son, David Ehrhardt, Marshalltown; two grandchildren, Keaton Gayken and Sydney Hunt; his mother, LaVonne Hanson, of Mason City; three brothers, Ronald Hanson and his wife, Tammie, of Mason City; Dennis Hanson and his wife, Kristine, of Austin, Minn. and Eugene Hanson, of Woodward; two sisters, Lois Gomez and her husband, John, of Clinton; and Linda Thayer, of West Plains, Mo.; and his mother and father-in-law, Leo and Arlene Martie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Hanson and grandparents.

CLEAR LAKE — Geneva G. Hansen, 79, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

** John Fredrick Kaduce

KLEMME — John Fredrick Kaduce, 83, of Klemme, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, in Klemme, with Pastor Georgia White-Kisslring officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tenold Funeral Home, Klemme, where other arrangements are incomplete.


** Warren Isenberger

OSAGE — Warren Isenberger, 84, of Osage, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev . Arthur L. Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Iola, of Osage; four daughters, Lora Rohrer, of Humboldt; Lorene Naze, of Kasson, Minn., Merry Vance, of Sac City, and Arlys Waite, of Osage; two sons, Stanley Isenberger, Osage and Warren David Isenberger, of Princeton, Texas; three sisters, Mabel Palm, of Cedar Rapids; and Wilma Schultz, of Florida; and Mildred Alstadt, of Fort Calhoun, Neb.; three brothers, Maynard Isenberger, of Garner; Levi Isenberger, of Baxter; and Robert Isenberger, of Downers Grove, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one grandson, one sister, and two brothers.


** Mildred Shipler

BURT — Mildred Shipler, 92, of Burt, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Hospital, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the United Methodist Church, Burt, with the Rev. Susan Thomas officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Millie was born on Sept. 17, 1906, at Lone Rock.

Survivors include her husband, Vern, of Burt; one daughter, Josephine Schrader, of Homeland, Calif.; two sons, Robert Olson, of Burt, and Richard Olson, of Anaheim, Calif.; one stepson, Dennis Shipler, of Burt; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren; and one sister, Veda Kuchenreuther, of Algona.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and two grandchildren.


** Mary Ann Gutting

GENEVA — Mary Ann Gutting, 66, of Geneva, died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Gerald Condon officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery.

Mary Ann Gutting was born July 30, 1932) at Mosinee, Wis.

Survivors include husband, Bernard Gutting, of Geneva; five sons, Robert Gutting, of Marshalltown, Edward Gutting, of Donellson, Minn.; Lawrence Gutting, of Ackley, Christopher Gutting, of Ellsworth, Wis., and Philip Gutting, of Geneva; five daughters, Debra Powers, of Ellsworth, Wis., Lori Johnson, of Bay City, Wis., Gloria Burnell, of Bossier City; Bernadine Peacock, of Wilmington, N.C., and Mary Heldenbrand, of Latimer; two brothers, Ben Gorski, of Bend, Ore., and Edward Gorski, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Elaine Odagard, of Kenosha, Wis., and Loraine Heins, of Dodge Center; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters.
