** James D. Utz

ROWAN — James D. Utz, 68, of Rowan, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, east of Clarion, with the Rev. Neil Hayen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Rowan, with military honors performed by the Rowan American Legion.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

Jim was born on July 26, 1931, at Coulter.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; three children, Debra Little and her husband, Michael, of Overland Park, Kan., John Utz and his wife, Ineke, of Gerchsheim, Germany, and Laura Utz, of West Des Moines; and four grandchildren, James Edward Valentin Utz and Christopher, Phillip and Alexander Little.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Herbert E. 'Herb' Siefken

ROCKWELL — Herbert E. "Herb" Siefken, 74, of Rockwell, died Monday night (Dec. 14, 1998) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, Rockwell. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Herb Siefken memorial fund.

Herb was born on Dec. 20, 1923, in Rockwell, the son of Emil D. and Minnie (Hagen) Siefken. He was one of two boys.

He graduated from the Swaledale Consolidated School in 1943. He honorably served his country in the Army Air Force from May 1946 until October 1947. While in the service, he was a crane operator in the Philippines.

He was a lifetime farmer in the Rockwell area and operated a typical farm — milking cows, raising hogs and chickens and tending his crops.

Herb was united in marriage to Maurine Mantle on Feb. 14, 1946, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, of which he was a member. To this marriage were born four children.

Herb in his younger years enjoyed hunting pheasants and trapping for beaver, muskrat and mink. He always enjoyed being around his family.

Herb has left to mourn his passing Maurine Siefken of Kennewick, Wash.; one daughter, Kathy Richey of Osage; two sons, Donald and his wife, Cindy Siefken, of Kennewick, Wash., and Jay and his wife, Kathy Siefken, of Rockwell; 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Kyle and Jason Evans, Tracy, Cory, Becky and Amy Siefken, Andy Evans, Aaron Richey, and Jeremy, Sadie, Sam and Mattie Siefken; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judy Evans Myers; and one brother, Walter Siefken.

** Jerry Allen Burgess

MASON CITY — Jerry Allen Burgess, 60, of Mason City, died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

A Moose service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, immediately followed by a funeral service, at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 123 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Brigadier Ellis Bollwhan, of the Salvation Army, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. today at the funeral home and continue until service time.

Jerry Allen Burgess was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Mason City, son of Roscoe and Elsie Burgess. He was married to Marcella Turbert.

Jerry grew up in Mason City and he served in the Marines during the Korean War. He was a driver for Price and Skarlis Motors.

He enjoyed playing cards and was an active member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include two brothers, Lerenzo Burgess of Marshalltown and Jack Burgess of Swaledale; three sisters, Lola Boomgarden and Betty Steece, both of Mason City, and JoAnn Anderson, of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Junella Eden and Iva Pauline Burgess; and three brothers, Bob, Dale and Roscoe Burgess Jr.

** Helen Hanawalt

MASON CITY — Helen Hanawalt, 94, of 315 N. Carolina Ave., died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John L. "Jack" Gannett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and will continue one hour prior to services today at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Helen Hanawalt Memorial Fund.

Helen was born July 5, 1904, in Ossian, Iowa, the daughter of John and Amalia "Molly" Nelson Westwick.

She grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D., where she graduated from high school. She later graduated from teachers college in Madison, S.D. She taught in a rural school for a short time.

Helen married Clyde Hanawalt on Jan. 28, 1926, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

She was employed at Baron's and Raizes' Department Store in Mason City for many years.

Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 72 years, a member of the Elizabeth Circle, a volunteer at the food bank and N.I.V.I.C. center and a was former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Lila Hanawalt of Mason City and Audrey Johnson and her husband, Harlan, of Garner; three grandchildren, Janet Johnson of Clear Lake, Nancy Stump and her husband, Tom, of Clear Lake and Scott Johnson and his wife, Susan, of Thornton, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and her husband, Kevin, of Clear Lake, Erin Schoenberger and her husband, Joe, of LaPorte City, Lindsay Stump of Olathe, Kan., Leah Johnson of Denver, Colo., and Benjamin Johnson of Thornton, Colo.; and three great-great-grandchildren, Brian and Jamie Thompson of Buffalo Center and Gage Schoenberger of LaPorte City.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norris, Edward and Laurence; her husband, Clyde; and one grandson, David Johnson.

** Lanny H. McNamara Sr.

MASON CITY — Lanny H. McNamara Sr., 58, of 11078 Owl Ave., died Saturday (Dec. 12, 1998) of a sudden heart attack in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Arne Bergland officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Lanny H. McNamara was born July 16, 1940, in Mason City, the son of Gerald and Anna (Anderson) McNamara. Lanny graduated from Rockwell High School.

He married Bonnie Wachendorf on July 1, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rockwell.

Lanny drove over the road until 1973 when he began work for Bonner Trucking in Swaledale where he was employed as a mechanic for 20 years.

In recent years, Lanny worked for R.E. Monson Trucking, Britt.

Lanny was a member of the SAM Club in Swaledale, serving as president, and also was a volunteer fireman for the Swaledale Fire Department.

Lanny enjoyed hobby farming and enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on his tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie McNamara, of Mason City; three sons, John McNamara and wife, Dariel, of Perry, Lanny McNamara Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Greg McNamara of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Levi, Austin and Melissa and Codie and Jacob; two sisters, Audrey Warner and her husband, Charles, of Mason City, and Kathleen Hansen of Rockwell; and a sister-in-law, Carol Willier of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Gerald and John McNamara; one sister, Margaret Prazak; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lester and Margaret Wachendorf; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Wachendorf.

** Martha Heykants

BELMOND — Martha (Dorenkamp) Heykants, 89, of Belmond, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Reformed Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Martha (Dorenkamp) Heykants, the daughter of Jacob and Rosa (Pals) Dorenkamp, was born on Aug. 14, 1909, in Wright County, Iowa. She obtained her education in the Alexander and Meservey schools and graduated from Meservey School in 1926 at the age of 16. Martha also joined the Meservey Reformed Church by confession of faith the same year.

She went on to attend State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught in rural schools in Cerro Gordo County.

On Feb. 5, 1932, Martha was united in marriage to Raymond Watermiller, and in less than one year, she became a widow. She resumed her teaching career.

On Feb. 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Bert Heykants at the Immanuel Church parsonage, rural Belmond. To this union, one son, Ronald, was born. The family lived on a farm north of Alexander for 11 years and they became members of the First Reformed Church in Alexander.

In 1949, Bert and Martha bought their farm near Belmond, where they lived and retired. They also became members of Immanuel Reformed Church when they moved to Belmond.

Martha was a member of Mission Guild. She taught Sunday school for 31 years and taught catechism and vacation Bible school for a number of years.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing cards; and Martha and Bert were able to do much traveling after retirement.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Kristi Heykants of St. Paul, Minn., and Blaine Heykants of Iowa City; five sisters, Nettie Watermiller of Belmond, Ruth Suntken of Meservey, Leona Lieberknecht of Belmond, Marie Schott of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bonnie Boelman of Meservey; one brother, Robert Dorenkamp of Bellflower, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert, in 1997; son, Ronald, in 1992; two sisters, Ethel and Luella; and two brothers, Lewis and Lester.

** Richard Savidge

GENEVA — Richard "Dick" Savidge, 84, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at the Dumont Care Center.

Time and location of services have been changed to 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Dumont. Inurnment will be in the Ingham Township Cemetery, Hansell.

Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.

** L.E. 'Bill' Eaton

SPIRIT LAKE — L.E. "Bill" Eaton, 79, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Mason City and Estherville, died Tuesday (Dec. 8, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Jack Peterson officiating. Burial will be in East Side Memorial Cemetery, Estherville, with full military graveside rites by members of V.F.W. Post No. 3388 and American Legion Post No. 91.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of prayer services at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral chapel.

Bill was born March 6, 1928, in Emmetsburg, to Leonard B. and Mary (Jordison) Eaton. Bill grew up in Mason City. He received his education in the Mason City schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 7, 1945, until his discharge on Aug. 5, 1946, during World War II. He later attended Mason City Junior College, the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa.

In 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ann Frettem. He was employed by Zeidler Concrete Products as a sales representative. Bill owned the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake from 1964 until 1968. The family moved to Estherville in 1970.

He was manager of Estherville Concrete Products and was later employed in the maintenance department in the pork plant at John Morrell and Co. in Estherville. Bill retired in 1986.

In 1988, he was united in marriage to Anna Belle Hawn. Bill was employed part-time at the hardware store in the Spirit Lake Mall, drove a bus for ECHO and later worked at Estherville Paint and Glass in Estherville.

Bill attended the Lutheran Church, was active in the Clear Lake Lions Club and Rotary Club and was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 3388 in Estherville.

He is survived by one son, Tom Eaton, and his wife, Valerie, of Estherville; daughter, Cindy Voster, of Dickens; granddaughter, April Moffitt and her husband, Randy, of Ames; grandson, Josh Eaton, of Spirit Lake; granddaughter, Tricia Eaton, of Winona, Minn.; granddaughter, Alyssa Moffitt and her husband, Rob, of Mankato, Minn.; granddaughter, Angie Voster, of Cedar Falls; granddaughter, Rachel Higgins, of Brookings, S.D.; grandson, Ryan Higgins, of Sheldon; granddaughter, Andrea Curchoe, of Estherville; and great-grandson, Connor Moffitt, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Belle; and a brother, Kenneth.

** Ruth Ann Bregante

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Ruth Ann Bregante, of San Mateo, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) in Burlingame.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sneider and Sullivan Funeral Home, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family prefers contributions to the American Lung Association, VNA Hospice or to the charity of your choice.

She was a devoted homemaker and a "crafty lady."

She is the loving mother of Michael Bregante, Karen Church and Jane Dettner and the beloved grandmother of Jessica and Erin.

MASON CITY — Judy Ann (Wolff) Reibsamen, 54, of 1025 N. Fillmore Ave., died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.

HANLONTOWN — Bertram Kaasa, 80, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly.

** Duane N. Monson

BRITT — Duane N. Monson, 50, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel.

Duane N. Monson was born in 1948, in Mason City.

Survivors include his mother, Frances Monson of Whittemore; his wife, Rose Monson of Britt; three sons, David of Keystone, Doug of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Ron of Britt; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and a brother.

** Celia C. Weed

MASON CITY — Celia C. Weed, 95, of Taylorville, Ill., formerly of Mason City, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at the Taylorville Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

There will be no visitation. Connolly-McClure Funeral Home, 302 West Poplar, Taylorville, is in charge of arrangements.

Celia C. Weed was born Aug. 18, 1903, to Michael and Mary (Balik) Prazak, in Protivin.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Weed in Cedar Rapids.

She had been a resident of Taylorville for five years and had formerly lived in Mason City where she worked as a cook and baker for the Mason City school system.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

She is survived by one son, Robert L. Weed, and his wife, Mary, of Taylorville; one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Weed of Renwick; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and three sisters.

** Florence E. Graven

GREENE — Florence E. Graven, 94, of Greene, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at the Liebe Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Greene United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reid's Funeral Chapel.

Florence E. Feuerhelm was born Sept. 14, 1904, in rural Beaver Creek, Rock County, Minn.

Survivors include two sons, Norman R. Graven of Greene and Jim K. Graven of Manson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine Wisgerhof of La Crosse, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, one brother, one sister and her husband.

SCARVILLE — Thelma Caroline Albertson, 85, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Scarville Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Interment will be in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery near Scarville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Thelma Caroline Albertson was born April 23, 1913, in Winnebago County.

Survivors include a daughter, Carmen Tweed of Bella Vista, Ark.; a son, Gary Albertson of Scarville; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a sister.

** Roy W. Held

GENEVA — Roy W. Held, 94, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Geneva United Methodist Church, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Roy William Held was born Sept. 25, 1904, near Geneva.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Held of Geneva; four sons, Marvin Held of Tucson, Ariz., Garnet Held of Tucson, Bryon Held of Charles City and Curtis Held of Houlton, Wis.; two daughters, Virginia Taylor of Rockford, Ill., and Dorothy Jean Jarrell of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and two brothers.

** Lucille M. Rowe

VENTURA — Lucille M. Rowe, 81, of Ventura, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at her son's home, 1458 Lookout Drive, North Mankato, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wayside Cemetery, Chapin.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Ventura United Methodist Church or Hospice of Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.

Lucille was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Holmes) Nettleton. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1936. Lucille worked for Boomhower Hardware in Mason City.

Lucille married Rolland G. Rowe on June 22, 1941, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City. They moved to the family farm near Hampton.

In 1946, they moved to a farm 3½ miles south of Ventura, where they lived until her husband's death in 1985. She continued to live in the Clear Lake and Ventura area until moving to Mankato to live with her son and family due to ill health in 1995.

Lucille enjoyed the companionship of the family dog, Lucky, cooking, club activities, reading and most of all her family. She was a charter member of Union Dozen Club and a member of Ventura United Methodist Church.

Lucille is survived by her son, Rolland C. "Rollie" Rowe and his wife, Linda, of 1458 Lookout Drive, North Mankato, Minn. 56003; five grandchildren, Kyle Rowe of North Mankato, Lorri Lastimosa and her husband, Darrell, of Mankato, David McMains of Eagle Lake, Minn., Elizabeth Ratjatawan and her husband, Sunya, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lisa Rowe of Mankato; and one great-grandchild, Adrianna L. Lastimosa of Mankato.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Arthur; a sister, Olive Frahm; and one infant sister, Lois Julia Nettleton.

CLARION — Electa P. Shupe, 95, of Clarion, died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ Congregational, with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

Memorials may be directed to the church or choice of the donor.

Electa was born June 23, 1903, in Pontiac, Ill.

Survivors include two sons, Charles F., of Brookfield, Wis., and Robert V., of Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

WHITTEMORE — Alfrieda T. Gade, 89, of Whittemore, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Whittemore, with the Rev. Lyle Hansen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Whittemore.

Alfrieda T. Gade was born Feb. 11, 1909, at Heron Lake, Minn.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Meyer, of Humboldt, and Norma Kressin, of Whittemore; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Scheppmann, of El Cajon, Calif., and Louis Scheppmann, of Sacramento, Calif.; and one sister, Esther Smith, of Algona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, one daughter, one brother and two sisters.

** Kathleen 'Kathy' Teig

MASON CITY — Kathleen "Kathy" Tieg, 50, of 1224 N. Rhode Island Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Other arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

MASON CITY — Stanley Kotz, 71, of 1416 S. Kentucky Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998 at his home.

HANLONTOWN — Bertram Kaasa, 80, of Hanlontown, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in the Brushpoint Cemetery, rural Hanlontown.

Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. today at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, and continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Henry Bertram Kaasa was born Oct. 25, 1918, the son of Abel and Carrie (Hendrickson) Kaasa. He graduated from Hanlontown Schools in 1939.

On April 21, 1940, he married Stella Mandt, in Osage.

Bert was a lifelong resident of Hanlontown and worked on the Rock Island Railroad as a conductor and brakeman for 36 years.

He enjoyed collecting old coins and watches. He also enjoyed carpentry, riding his John Deere tractor, working on steam engines and working in his shed. He was a very loving husband to his wife Stella.

He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Stella Kaasa, of Hanlontown; one daughter, Rosetta Todd and her husband, John, of Palm Beach, Fla.; one grandson, John Todd Jr., of Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Leola Snell, of Mason City; and Bernette Trostheim and her husband, Gilman, of Scarville; nieces and nephews including one special nephew, Dennis Mandt and his wife, Sandy and their children, Joshua and Jennifer Mandt, all of Charles City; and many friends in the community of Hanlontown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kermit Kaasa.

** Judy Ann Reibsamen

MASON CITY — Judy Ann (Wolff) Reibsamen, 54, of 1025 N. Fillmore Ave., died Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Judy Ann Wolff Reibsamen was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Mason City. She was the daughter of Donald and Lila (Wolff) Paulsen.

In the late 1970s Judy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and then in the early 1980s she was diagnosed with throat cancer. Through all of her illness, she kept a good outlook on life.

Judy enjoyed fishing and bird watching. She loved spending time with her grandkids. She was a fan of Elvis and an avid Chicago Bulls fan.

Survivors include her mother, Lila Paulsen, of Mason City; six children, Dave Reibsamen, of Mason City; Linda Payer, of Rogers, Ark.; Tim Reibsamen, of Britt, Chris Reibsamen, of Mason City; Deb Severson, of Algona; and Shelly Orozco, of Mason City; one sister, Betty Williams, of Mason City; 21 grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Donald Paulsen; and two grandchildren, T.J. Payer and Lindsy Barber.

GREENE — Funeral services for Florence E. Graven, 94, of 108 S. High St., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at the United Methodist Church in Greene, with Pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene.

Florence Ethel Feuerhelm was born Sept. 14, 1904, in rural Beaver Creek, Rock County, Minn., a daughter of Reuben J. and Estella (May) Feuerhelm, and died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

The family moved to a farm near Lake Park, Iowa, in 1909, where she attended country school through the 7th grade and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1921. She graduated from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, in 1925.

She taught for two years at Moneta and in Center Point for one year. In 1928 she came to Greene where she taught English, speech and drama, until her marriage. She continued as a substitute teacher into the 1970s.

Florence married James Howard Graven at the family farm near Lake Park on Aug. 10, 1935, and they became the parents of two sons, Norman R. and Jim K. She became involved in her sons' school and extra-curricular activities, being a longtime Cub Scout den mother, a PTA organizer and a Music Parents Volunteer.

In addition to being involved in her husband's Bar Association activities, Florence was active in numerous civic organizations. She was a charter member of the Greene Federated Woman's Club, a 60-plus year member of both Tack Barnett American Legion Auxiliary, Chapter CC P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Ladies Embroidery Club and a longtime member of the Former University Women.

Florence was a lifelong and active member of the United Methodist Church and had been a former teacher, board member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the former Butler County Board of Education, Greens Betterment Council and a longtime member of the Greene Library Board. She received the Governor's Leadership Award in 1981 and was Butler County's nominee for the Governor's Volunteer Hall of Fame in 1990.

She treasured her church, her family and her many former students who kept in touch over the years, but especially her good life in the wonderful Greene community, of which she was so proud.

Living family members include her two sons and their spouses, Norman R. and Ann Graven, of Greene, and Jim K. and Barbara, of Manson; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kelley and Henry Perkins, Steve and Kim Graven, Don Graven, Kristin and Rowdy Bode, Kurt and Tina Graven and Mara Graven; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Wisgerhof, of LaCrosse, Wis.; a niece, Kay Boyd; and a stepbrother, Harold Feuerhelm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Graven, on Oct. 1, 1976; grandson, Dennis Graven in 1966; parents; stepmother, Anna; sister, Della Feuerhelm; brother, Keith Feuerhelm; stepsister, Kay Leher; and stepbrother, Leonard Feuerhelm.

ORANGE CITY — Mrs. Helen Johnson, 84, of Orange City, formerly of Greene, passed away Monday (Dec. 14, 1998) in the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the American Reformed Church, Orange City, with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 3:45 p.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.

Visitation was held Wednesday at the Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City.

Helen Margaret was born Jan. 7, 1914, on a farm near Greene, the daughter of Harold R. and Margaret G. (Montgomery) Stuntz. She graduated from Greene School in 1931 and received nurses training in Chicago for a year. Later she attended what is now the University of Northern Iowa, where she acquired a teaching certificate.

On Feb. 12, 1937, she married William S. "Bill" Johnson in Greene. They farmed and raised turkeys near Greene for 25 years, except for a short time near Rockford. They then moved into Greene, were Bill was a Realtor. He passed away March 13, 1965, in Greene.

Helen then went to work for Echelberger John Deere in Greene, as a bookkeeper for about 16 years. In January of 1983 she moved to Orange City. She became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in January of 1998, and in October she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

In earlier years, Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Greene, where she was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the women's society and the Good Cheer Circle. She and her husband were also both members of the Packard Club. In Orange City, she was a member of the American Reformed Church and its Ruth Circle. She was active in Senior Citizen Dinner Date activities in both communities.

In her younger years, Helen traveled by bus all over the United States. She was an expert at crocheting and also did knitting and sewing. She enjoyed playing cards. One of her greatest joys was collecting and displaying pictures of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were often recipients of her beautiful handiwork.

Survivors include four children, Lynne and her husband, Edward B. Grossman, of Orange City; Jerry Johnson and his wife, Dixie, of Gaylord, Minn.; LaVon Steere, of Greene; and Thomas Johnson, and his wife, Cindy, of Greene; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Clyde and Fern Stuntz, of Greene; a sister and her husband, Laura Jane and Ted Bedell, of Star Prairie, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Irene Stuntz, of Greene; and a brother-in-law, Leo Holzschuh, of Wishram, Wash.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie Andrean; a son-in-law, Jerry Steere; a brother, James Stuntz; and a sister, Anna Holzschuh.

** Clement Urich

DELTA, Colo. — Clement Urich, 68, formerly of Garner, Iowa, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) in Colorado, where he had resided for the past 12 years.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in Delta, Colo.

A memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, in Duncan, Iowa, with a reception social following the Mass. Visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. prior to memorial services.

After marrying Angeline Meier in 1951, Clem raised his children on the family farm southwest of Garner.

He occupied his time with farming, photography and gardening. He also spent time motorcycling and on his hobby cars. He was an all around "fix-it man."

Clem enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and his music and video library.

Throughout his lifetime, Clem had been a member of the Catholic Workman, the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

Clem stayed involved with agriculture after retiring from farming due to poor health through his work with the counties dairy herds and through his time as a mechanic at a local implement dealer. He also assisted the management of the Duncan Community Hall for many years.

He treasured his church, family, grandchildren, and all his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Angeline, of Delta, Colo.; and one sister, Marion Liska, of Albert Lea, Minn.; four sons and five daughters, Gerald and Rita Urich, of Austin, Colo.; Veronica Corkill, of Crystal Lake; Tony and Sue Urich, of Garner; Yvonne Vizcarra, of Des Moines; Bernard and Bambi Urich, of Garner; Bonaven and Joyce Urich, of Delta, Colo.; Nancy and Jeff Horstman, of Britt; Karen and Terry Brunsen, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Marjori and Charles Langhoff, of Tacoma, Wash.; and 23 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Albina Urich; and one grandson, Connor Brunsen.

Kathleen A. "Kathy" Teig was born Sept. 9, 1948, in Mason City, the daughter of Mervin and Crystal (Brownlee) Teig. Kathy attended and graduated from Mason City High School in 1967.

She attended Lee College in Albert Lea, Minn. for one year. She then worked for Dr. Blodgett for several years. She later attended NIACC and graduated through the optimologist assistant program in 1987. She then went to work for Drs. Fry and Heston for several years.

Kathy was married to Glen DeZiel on Dec. 12, 1970, in Mason City. Kathy enjoyed her yard, birds, flowers, ceramics and crafts. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer DeZiel and her friend, Sean TeKippe, of Des Moines; son, Brian DeZiel and his fiancee, Mary Krauth, of Park City, Utah; parents, Mervin and Crystal Teig, of Mason City; stepdaughter, Susie Heft, of Cedar Falls; special friends, Deb Hartley, of Mason City; Susan Meinecke, of Forest City; and Helen Karamitros, of Mason City; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters in infancy; and her grandparents.

MASON CITY — Stanley G. Kotz, 71, of 1416 S. Kentucky Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John "Jack" Gannett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Stanley was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Clear Lake, the son of Louis and Tilda (Ashland) Kotz.

He attended school in Clear Lake and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1947.

Stanley was married to Jane Weaver on Jan. 30, 1949, in Mason City. They farmed in the Rock Falls area for around 16 years. They moved to Osage where they ran Stan’s Drive-Inn Restaurant for nearly 25 years. When they retired, they moved back to Mason City in 1988.

Stanley enjoyed model trains and mopar cars. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Kotz, of Mason City; daughters, Debbie Brakel and her husband, Jim, of Nora Springs; Sheryl Nikolas and her husband, Ed, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Dana Thompson and her husband, Dave, of Osage; sisters, Mabelle Roben and her husband, Glen, of Rockwell, and Doris Creager and her husband, Norm, of Florence, Ore.; brothers, Earl Kotz and his wife, Bernadine, of Clear Lake; and Wilbur Kotz and his wife, Altha, of New Hampton; numerous nephews and nieces; and his grandchildren, Joseph and Jamie Brakel, of Nora Springs; Jason and Monica Nickolas, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Jill and Jenna Thompson, of Osage.

Stanley was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Clear Lake, the son of Louis and Tilda (Ashland) Kotz.

He attended school in Clear Lake and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1947.

Stanley was married to Jane Weaver on Jan. 30, 1949 in Mason City. They farmed in the Rock Falls area for around 16 years. They moved to Osage where they ran Stan's Drive-Inn Restaurant for nearly 25 years. When they retired, they moved back to Mason City in 1988.

Stanley enjoyed model trains and Mopar cars. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Kotz, of Mason City; daughters, Debbie Brakel and her husband, Jim, of Nora Springs; Sheryl Nikolas and her husband, Ed, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Dana Thompson and her husband, Dave, of Osage; sisters, Mabelle Roben and her husband, Glen, of Rockwell and Doris Creager and her husband, Norm, of Florence, Ore.; brothers, Earl Kotz and his wife, Delores, of Mason City; Edward Kotz and his wife, Bernadine, of Clear Lake; and Wilbur Kotz and his wife, Altha, of New Hampton; numerous nephews and nieces; and his grandchildren, Joseph and Jamie Brakel, of Nora Springs; Jason and Monica Nikolas, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Jill and Jenna Thompson, of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** David Paul Gibson

MASON CITY — David Paul Gibson, 42, of 1720 S. Taft Ave., died Thursday (Dec. 17, 1998) at his home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

David Paul Gibson was born Feb. 4, 1956, in Mason City, son of Robert and Marjorie (Yarrow) Gibson. David graduated from Mason City High School in 1974.

David worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken for three years and then worked at IMI Cornelius for 20 years. He enjoyed playing pool and softball and raising tropical fish. He was an avid Vikings fan.

Survivors include his parents, Bob and Marjorie Gibson, of Mason City; two sisters, Janece Miller and Michael Tagesen, of Mason City, and Joyce Sanchez and her husband, Alex, of Mason City; three nieces, Kathy Henderson and her husband, Wayde, of Manly, Ronda Schorgl, of Conway, Ark. and Angi Alexander and her husband, Matt, of Mason City; three nephews, Scott Miller and his wife, Brenda, of Mebourne, Tony Miller, of Oswego, Ill. and Chris Sanchez and his wife, Kim, of Mason City; 12 great nieces and nephews; one great-aunt; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

** Dora L. Sanquist

BOLAN — Dora L. Sanquist, 91, of Des Moines, formerly of Bolan, died Monday (Dec. 7, 1998) at the Wesley Acres Care Center, in Des Moines.

According to her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at the Bolan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

The family of Dora L. Sanquist has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bolan United Methodist Church in her memory.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.

Dora L. Sanquist was born on Nov. 6, 1907, at the farm home in rural Kensett, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Weieneth. She attended and received her education in the Northwood School system, graduating from Northwood High School. She also attended and graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo.

She was united in marriage to Don W. Sanquist in October of 1934, who died overseas in World War II.

During her life, Dora worked as a secretary at Tri-States Theatre Corporation, Meredith Corporation and retired from the Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce in November of 1974.

She enjoyed golfing, watching baseball, flowers, gardening, and loved the great outdoors.

She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines and was a former member of the Bolan United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is one sister, Margaret Flatness, of Northwood; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and three brothers.

** BriAnna Noel Leake

NORA SPRINGS — BriAnna Noel Leake was born Dec. 17, 1998 and died Dec. 17, 1998 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City, the infant daughter of David Alan and Kimberly Marie (Meek) Leake, of 215 Second St. S.E., Nora Springs, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Greg Lugn, of Christian Church, Nora Springs, officiating. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs.

BriAnna is survived by her parents, David Alan and Kimberly Marie Leake, of Nora Springs, three sisters, Amanda, Marissa and Kara Leake, of Nora Springs; maternal grandparents, Dan and Doris Meek, of Charles City; paternal grandparents, Jack Leake, of Mason City and Margery Leake, of Nora Springs; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Franzen, of Hawkeye; paternal great-grandmother, Ruby Wilson, of Nora Springs; two uncles, Kurt and Danny Meek, of Charles City and three aunts, Lori Botts, of Macomb, Ill., Kathy Mahlstedt, of Rockford, Iowa and Amy Vosburgh, of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Leonard Franzen; maternal great-grandparents, George and Ella Meek; paternal great-grandfather, George Wilson; paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Helen Leake; and one uncle, Mark Leake.

** George Crooks Jr.

CHARLES CITY — George Crooks Jr., 82, of Charles City, died Thursday (Dec. 17, 1998) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Sunnyside Chapel, Highway 218 S., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. today until time of services.

Memorials may be given to the George Crooks Jr. Memorial Fund in care of the family.

George Crooks Jr. was born March 24, 1916, in Iona.

Survivors include his wife, Merle, of Charles City; three daughters, Judith A. Balsley, of Clarksville; Barbara M. Boyer, of Charles City; and Valerie J. Stolfus, of Sumner; two sons, Gary L. Crooks, of Charles City; and Eugene D. Crooks, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Stansberg, of Charles City; and Robert Crooks, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, eight brothers and eight sisters.

BELMOND — Ronald Dale Andrews, 86, of Belmond, died Friday (Dec. 18, 1998) at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church, Belmond, with Pastor John Murray and the Rev. Robert Banning officiating. Private family interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Rowan.

Ronald Dale Andrews was born June 30, 1912, in Rowan.

Survivors include his wife, Hannah, of Belmond; two daughters, Lynda Shenefield, of Ooltewah, Tenn. and Rhonda Knott, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, John, of Belmond and James, of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Ryle Andrews, of Belmond.

Gladys Hughes was born March 17, 1913, in Butler County.
