Vernetta A. Waters, 78, died Friday (Oct. 18, 1996) at the Dows

Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United

Methodist Church with the Rev. James Turner officiating.  Burial

will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elledge

Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at

the church on Tuesday.



Vernetta Agnes (Knuths) Waters was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Rowan.



Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Patterson of Dows

and Pat Gumm of West Des Moines; two sons, Paul Waters of Galt

and Donald Waters of Dows; and eight grandchildren and four great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters

and two brothers.

home.

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral

home.



Alberta J. Huston was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Hampton.



Survivors include her husband, Loren Huston of Hampton; two

sons, Hugh Huston of Minneapolis, Minn., and Van Huston of Hampton;

and two sisters, Janice Ver Hoef of Johnston and Marian Smith

of Peoria, Ariz.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral

home.



Cora Lindloff Vestweber was born Oct. 29, 1910, in Claremont,

Minn.



Survivors include one son, John Vestweber of Webster City; one

daughter, Jolyn Fredericksen of Webster City; one brother, Chris

Lindloff of Sheffield; two sisters, Leona Buss of Sheffield and

Alberta Crandall of Hampton; three grandchildren; and one great-

grandchild.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

seven brothers and one sister.

Manda B. Brue, 86, died Friday (Oct. 18, 1996) at Lake Mills

Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty

Lutheran Church, Rake, with the Rev. Lloyd E. Handeland and the

Rev. Elwin Walvatne officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill

Cemetery, Thompson.

Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services at the church.



Manda Burnette Brue was born March 17, 1910, near Lake Mills

in Winnebago County.



Survivors include her husband, Millerd of Lake Mills; four children,

Mavis Johnson of Thompson, Elaine Hetland of Deering, N.D., and

LaVerne Brue and Joan Sunde of Buffalo Center; 11 grandchildren;

24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three

sisters, Nora Peterson of Northwood, Martha Peterson of Lake

Mills and Agnes Jensen of Grand Meadow, Minn.

Dolores Mae Hayek

CRESCO



Dolores Mae Hayek, 72, of the Cresco Care Center, died Saturday

(Oct. 19, 1996) at the Howard County Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Assumption

Catholic Church, Cresco. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.



Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral

Home, Cresco, with a 4 p.m. rosary, a 6 p.m. VFW Auxillary Memorial

service and a 7:30 p.m. parish Scripture service. Friends may

also call one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.



She was born May 6, 1924,  in Calmar, the daughter of William

and Mayme Mashek Hosting.



On Oct. 28, 1941, Dolores was united in marriage to Adolph J.

Hayek in Calmar.



She and her husband farmed for many years. Dolores was a Tupperware

dealer for 20 years and she had also worked as an Avon Lady.

Dolores was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, was active

in the Rosary Society and a eucharistic minister to the elderly.



She was a member of the VFW Post #4561 Auxillary and the Howard

County Farm Bureau.



Dolores enjoyed being around others, especially her family.

She liked to garden, sew, and work in her kitchen. Her favorite

pastimes were bingo and card club.



Dolores is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Adolph;

seven sons, Adolph W. Jr. of Washington, D.C.; James of Black

Diamond, Wash.; Joseph and his wife, Shirley; Jerome; Julius

and his companion, Janet Nagle, all of Cresco; Jay and his wife,

Shirley, of Strandquist, Minn.; Jean and his wife, Alicia, of

Kent, Wash.; six daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Jerry Andera,

of Manly; Joyce and her husband, Gene Kapler, of Cresco; Jacqueline

and her husband, Harley Reisner, of Marion; Jane and her husband,

Calvin Steffen, of Decorah; Janet and her husband, Gene Weigert,

of Cresco; and Julie of Cresco; 23 grandchildren; eight great-

grandchildren; a sister, Rosemarie Prohaska of Fremont, Neb.;

and a brother William Hostings,  Arlington, Texas.



She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Hayek.

Douglas E. Eddy

FOREST CITY 



Douglas E. Eddy Jr., 64, of  Forest City, died Monday (Oct.

21, 1996) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.



A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel

Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.



Douglas E. Eddy Jr. was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Mason City.



Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Eddy of Forest City; one

son, Roger Lyons of Forest City; two daughters, Brenda Lee Elthon

of Falls Church, Va., and Linda Rizzo of West Palm Beach, Fla.;

four grandchildren; and his stepfather, Homer Rouf of Bemidji,

Minn.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

(Oct. 20, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Darrell Heaford

TRAER



Darrell Heaford, 54, of Traer, died Saturday (Oct. 19, 1996)

at the Convenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of an apparent heart

attack.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Dysart, with the Rev. Edward Bastedo

officiating. Burial will be in the Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.



Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Overton

Funeral Homer.



Darrell Charles Heaford was born March 26, 1942, at Rockwell,

the son of Oscar Carl and Johanna (Koenen) Heaford.



He attended school at Rockwell and graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale

High School.



Darrell was drafted into the United States Army and served his

country in the Vietnam War.



After his discharge, he worked for a finance company in Mason

City and the Omaha area.



On June 8, 1970, Darrell was united in marriage to Susan Strunk

in Cedar Falls. They made their home in Iowa City and later Sigourney

where he worked as a banker until 1975 when they moved to Traer.



Darrell and Susan later divorced and he continued his employment

with the First Community Bank. Darrell was currently serving

as vice president of the Homeland Bank in the Traer office.



Darrell had served as a volunteer for the Traer Ambulance Service

and was currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Sunrise

Hill Care Center Board of Directors.



He is survived by two sons, Christian and his wife, Brooke Heaford

of West Battle Lake, Minn., and Andrew Heaford of Storrs, Conn.;

two daughters, Amy (Mrs. David) Carey of Cedar Rapids, and Elizabeth

Heaford of Redding, Conn.; his mother, Johanna Heaford of Rockwell;

one brother, Bill Heaford of Dysart; one sister, Elaine (Mrs.

Dallas) Abrams of La Mesa, Calif.; one grandchild, Boston Heaford;

and a special friend, Carol Welsh of Traer.



He was preceded in death by his father.

Pearl Hellyer was born March 1, 1916, in rural Hampton.



Survivors include one son, John Hellyer of Snohomish, Wash.;

two daughters, Nancy Hellyer of San Jose, Calif., and Linda Peitz

of Newhall; five grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Schnabel

of Detroit, Mich.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers

and twin infant sisters.

Marjorie Ellefson was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Forest City.



Survivors include her husband, Sidney; one son, Roger of Algona;

one daughter, Sandy Wiener of Fenton; six grandchildren; three

great-grandchildren; five sisters, Tharon Steinmetz of Forest

City; Anna Mae Taylor and Elaine Gunderson, both of Northwood;

Lois Hanna of Forest City, and Janice Broome of Nora Springs;

and three brothers, George Albertson Jr. of Garner; James Albertson

of Fort Dodge, and Donald Albertson of Forest City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two

sisters.

Anna was born on June 27, 1901, at Stanhope.



Survivors include one son, Billy Hawbaker of Alexander, Ark.;

two daughters, JoAnn Wilson of Bancroft, and Ella Applegate of

Estille Springs, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;

10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Orpha Briggs of Bancroft;

and one brother, Gerald McFarland of Blairsburg.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, six

sons and one daughter.

was in Saratoga Cemetery.

Helen G. Weaver was born Jan. 21, 1909, near Saratoga.



Survivors include two sons, Ron of Manchester, and Ray of Evansdale;

two daughters, Janet Weaver of Bondurant, and Mavis Wallace of

Richardson, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters

and two brothers.

Eleanor Jean Beisel, 65, of 29903 Eric Road, Magnolia, Texas

77355, passed away Monday (Oct. 14, 1996).



Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 17, 1996, at the Klein

Funeral Chapel, Tomball, Texas.



Eleanor Jean Beisel was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Mason City, Iowa,

the daughter of Floyd and Vern Hulbert. She attended Mason City

schools.



She was united in marriage to Harold Beisel of Mason City. They

lived in Mason City and Rockwell, Iowa, then moved to Texas.



Survivors include one son, Jeff and his wife, Robin; one daughter,

Jeanette Parks; four grandchildren, Shawn Parks, Shawna Parks,

Michelle Beisel and Tara Beisel; mother-in-law, Neva Beisel;

brother-in-law, Everett Beisel; and sister-in-law, Betty Bratrud.



She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bonnie Ellen Leeper

PLYMOUTH



Bonnie Ellen Leeper, 84, of Plymouth, died Sunday (Oct. 20,

1996) at her home.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bride

Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Kathy

Kluis of the Plymouth United Methodist Church officiating.



Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday

at the chapel. According to the wishes of the family, the casket

will be closed. Following services the body will be cremated

with inurnment services at a later date.



Bonnie Ellen Leeper was born on May 6, 1912, in Fairfield, the

daughter of Lafe and Ila (Turnam) Giberson.



She attended and received her education in the Fairfield school

system.



Bonnie lived in the rural Jefferson County area moving to North

Iowa in 1944, where they farmed until moving to Plymouth in 1968.



She loved animals, gardening, crocheting, canning fruits and

vegetables, cooking and baking.



She was a Methodist by faith.



Survivors include two daughters, Betty Suchy and her husband,

Al, of Osage, and Beverly Florence of Lake Mills; one son, Earl

Leeper Jr., of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Mike Florence of

Kensett; Deb Prescott of Clear Lake; Larry and Jason Florence,

of Lake Mills; Jacqueline Porter of Gravois Mills, Mo., and Jean

Canny of Springville; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-

grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and

three sisters.

Phillip Skipton

DES PLAINES, Ill.



Phillip Skipton, 65, of Des Plaines, formerly of Mason City,

Iowa, died Monday (Oct. 21, 1996) in Des Plaines.



Private graveside services will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery

near Clear Lake, Iowa.



Phillip Skipton was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Council Bluffs.



For the last  15 years, he lived in Marshalltown, Iowa, and

recently moved to Des Plaines to live with his daughter.



Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Skipton of Des Plaines,

Ill., and Lisa Richards, of Des Moines; two sons, Daniel Skipton

of Calumet City, Ill., and Jeffrey Skipton, Lansing, Ill.; three

sisters, Shirley Peterson and Jo Pedelty, both of Clear Lake,

and Mary Lou Stockberger of Mason City; and seven grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Skipton; and longtime

companion, Mary Ann Huseboe of Marshalltown.

Edna C. Carstensen

MASON CITY



Edna C. Carstensen, 92, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Sunday

(Oct. 20, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity

Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Ken

Hatland officiating. Interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery,

Bryant.



There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.



Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in

charge of arrangements.



Memorials may be given to the Edna Carstensen Memorial Fund

at NIACC or Trinity Lutheran Church.



Edna Carstensen was born Dec. 25, 1903, the daughter of Frederick

Herman and Amelia D.C. (Kruse) Carstensen in Washta.



Edna graduated from Preston High School, receiving her teaching

certificate at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls,

and her masters degree from the University of Iowa.  She did

undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota, the University

of Chicago, the University of Innsbruck, Austria, Iowa State

University, University of Colorado and the University of Washington.



Edna started her teaching career in the rural schools in Jackson

County, Goose Lake, Williamsburg, Strawberry Point, Perry and

then to Mason City in 1942.



She taught at NIACC, Mason City Junior College, Mason City High

School and Monroe Junior High School.



Edna helped to pioneer educational TV with an 18-week program

on KGLO-TV. She also developed a reading program for the Perry

school system.



She was an active member of International and National Education

programs. She was a member of the NEA, ISEA, Delta Kappa Gamma

Sorority, Mason City Retired Teachers, Trinity Lutheran Church

and Miriam Circle, AAUW, Maria Mitchell Study Club, Mason City

Women's Club, International Reading Association, TEPS State and

National Commission.



She also developed a TV series for adult reading improvement

with other college teachers.



She traveled worldwide giving educational seminars and for enjoyment.



She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Youtz and her husband,

Arthur, of Maquoketa, and Elvira Koski of Maquoketa;  and one

brother, Louis Carstensen and his wife, Thelma, of Long Grove;

nine nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews.

Stanley J. Veit passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996.



Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1996, in Rosenberg.



Stanley was a 1943 graduate of Mason City, Iowa, High School.



After serving in World War II in the 33rd Infantry, he lived

and worked in the Mason City area before moving to Texas in the

1970s.



He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for over 30 plus years.

United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating.



Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the

Alexander Cemetery, Alexander.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour

before services on Thursday at the church.

Henrietta was born Aug. 23, 1907, in rural Alexander, the daughter

of Peter H. and Katherina (Bos) Pals. She attended school in

Alexander.



Henrietta married Frank Ostendorf on Dec. 29, 1931, in George.



They farmed in the Belmond and Goodell area until 1952, when

they moved to Ventura. She was a cook for the Ventura Schools

for several years. Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death

in 1962.



Henrietta married Henry Hertel in 1970 in Sioux Falls, S.D.



She loved her home, reading the Bible, raising flowers, playing

the piano, cooking, playing cards and most of all, visiting with

her family and friends.



Henrietta was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church.



Henrietta is survived by four children, Barbara Bergman and

her husband, Billy, of Clear Lake; Bonnie Williamson and her

husband, LeRoy, Clear Lake; Verlyn Ostendorf of Ventura, and

Ron Ostendorf and his wife, Shirley, of Clear Lake; one sister,

Grace Tinkey of Belmond; one brother, Peter Pals Jr., of Belmond;

three sisters-in-law, Lydia Baker and her husband, Harold, of

Belmond; Clara Klehm of Belmond; and Betty Ostendorf of Alexander;

one brother-in-law, Harry Ostendorf and his wife, Muriel, of

Oshkosh, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Douglas E. Eddy

FOREST CITY 



Longtime Forest City businessman Douglas E. Eddy Jr., died

unexpectedly Monday morning (Oct. 21, 1996) at St. Mary's Hospital,

Rochester, Minn., of complications following cancer surgery.

He was 64 years old.



A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Immanuel

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg, senior pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date.



Mr. Eddy owned and operated Eddy's Glass and Door Co., in Forest

City, a wholesale/retail glass, aluminum and overhead door business.

His firm served as a sub-contractor on many of the major buildings

in North Iowa and southern Minnesota.



He headed the Forest City economic development organization,

Forest City Development Inc., for 32 years before stepping down

last March. He was a member of the Forest City Masonic Lodge

and worked for the early development of the Forest City Golf

Club.



He was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Mason City, the son of D.W. ``Bill''

and Gena Geeseman Eddy. The family moved to Forest City in 1946

when the senior Mr. Eddy opened a retail paint and glass business.



At Forest City High School ``Doug'' played tailback in football

and was a member of the FCHS basketball team that went to the

state tournament finals. He was a 1952 graduate of Waldorf College.



His participation in sports led to an enthusiastic support for

the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings.



Another avocation was to build a greenhouse attached to his

house where he raised  a great variety of plants, many of them

on display in the showroom of his business.



During the Korean War, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army and served

two years. After service he returned to join his father's business.

Under his leadership, it expanded into a contracting business

and moved to the former Chevrolet garage building at K and Sixth

Streets.



He married Gretchen Lyons on July 20, 1976, in Marshalltown.



Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Eddy, of Forest City; one

son, Roger Lyons and his wife, Tammy, of Forest City; two daughters

from a previous marriage, Brenda Lee Elthon and her husband,

Donald, of Falls Church, Va., and Linda Rizzo of West Palm Beach,

Fla.; four grandchildren, Martin and Synneva Jean Elthon; Joe

and Katherine Rizzo; and stepfather, Homer Rouf of Bemidji, Minn.



Additional survivors include a number of aunts and uncles including

Nina Gisch of Algona; Florence and Arid White of Mason City;

Lila and Francis Menke of Bancroft; Ilene and Robert Wellman

of Las Alamitos, Calif.; Charles and Arlene Geesman of Mason

City; Jim Geesman of Walnut Creek; Howard and Marilyn Geesman,

of Britt; Earl Geesman of Algona, and John and Yvonne Geesman

of Charles City.



He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Gerald

She was then employed with the University of Iowa Department

of Publications as a photographer at the University of Iowa Photographic

Service.



She married Stanley E. Nelson at Nashua, on Aug. 12, 1939, and

was married to  him until his death in 1970.



She then married David H. McCuskey on Oct. 8, 1971, in Iowa

City until his death in 1985.



Ruth was a life-long resident of Iowa City and was an active

member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was also a member of

the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a past member of both the University

Camera Club and the Roundtable Camera Club.



Survivors include a stepson, David McCuskey of Excelsior, Minn.;

a daughter-in-law, Faith McCuskey of Plantation, Fla.; many nephews

and nieces, Kenneth Weller of England; Lawrence Weller of Holland,

Velma was born Feb. 5, 1921, the daughter of Everett and Bertha

(Dady) Hageman in Syracuse, N.Y.



In 1938, Velma graduated from Diagonal High School in Diagonal.



After graduating, she moved to Leon, where she was employed

by the Leon Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.



On July 21, 1958, Velma was united in marriage to Emmett Wiley

in Idaho Springs, Colo. The couple then moved to Rockwell, where

they resided for about 30 years. She then moved to Hampton.



Velma enjoyed shopping and was quite the bargain hunter. Houseplants

flourished under her care. Being an avid bird watcher, she was

able to identify several species.



She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.



Velma is survived by two sons, Larry and his wife, Connie Miller,

of Mason City, and Darwin Alan and his wife, Betty Miller, of

Fort Madison;  one stepson, Gary and his wife, Doris Wiley, of

Dallas, Texas; one stepdaughter, Dr. and Mrs. Robert (Jean) Golly,

of Dallas, Texas; five sisters, Vera Crew of Omaha, Neb.; Veretta

Campbell of Springback, Ariz.; Donna Diewold of Burlington; Cleo

Kouns of Kansas City, Mo., and Joan Boyd of Afton; one brother,

Doyle Hageman of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-

grandchildren.

Marie Eleanor Goll, the daughter of Christian Albert and Edith

Vivian (Watts) Nonnweiler, was born April 12, 1914, on a farm

near Hayfield.



She moved with her family to Garner in 1920, where she attended

school.



After graduating from Garner High School in 1932, she worked

in the office of Central States Electric Company.



On Sept. 24, 1935, she was married to Leon Oscar Goll at Immanuel

Reformed Church in Klemme.



They farmed southeast of Garner until Leon's death in 1974.

In 1975, she moved into Garner.



Due to ill health, Marie had resided at the Kanawha Community

Home since May 30 of this year.



She enjoyed family, friends, traveling, playing cards, flower

gardening and gardening.



She was a member of Peace Reformed Church, Ladies Aid, Bible

Study group, Garner Garden Club and the Concord and Ell Homemaker's

Club. She also taught Sunday school and served on the Prairie

View Apartments board.



She is survived by her three children, Dr. Darrel Goll of Tucson,

Ariz.; Charles Goll and his wife, Kathy, of Garner, and Marcia

Greany and her husband, Kay, of Des Moines; seven grandchildren;

11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Nonnweiler and his

wife, Barbara, of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Goll, Oct. 1,

1974; infant twin grandchildren, Donald Dean Goll and Donna Jean

Goll; her father, Chris Nonnweiler, Oct. 18, 1956; her mother,

Edith Nonnweiler on April 12, 1977; and two sisters, Thelma Nonnweiler

High School, Mason City Junior College and Coe College, Cedar

Rapids.



Ed served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as an

engineer for the city of Cedar Rapids for many years. He was

a member of the American Legion and Grace United Methodist Church.



Survivors include one sister, Margaret Berneman of Mason City;

three nieces, Debra Carpenter, Cathy Rogers and her husband,

Dale, and Diane Berneman, all of Mason City; two nephews, Bernard

Berneman and his wife, Patsy, and Dale Berneman, both of Mason

Arloene ``Dot'' McClintock was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Meservey,

the daughter of Cornelius J. and Anna M. (Grosz) Janssen.



Dot graduated from Meservey High School and Hamilton School

of Business.



Dot moved to Mason City in 1928 and worked in the office at

Jacob B. Decker and Sons until her retirement in 1941.



She married Vern W. ``Red'' McClintock on June 19, 1936, in

Mason City.



Dot had also worked at the front desk at the Holiday Inn.



She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Golden Age,

Lydia Church Circle, Minerva Study Club, Chapter BF of TTT, Auxiliary

to Shriners, Order of Eastern Star, Unity Chapter 58, Alchor

Shrine #6, XDG and AARP.



Survivors include one son, David E. McClintock, of Westville,

Ind.; one daughter, Diane M. Knief and husband, Gayle, of Carroll;

four grandsons, Anthony ``Tony'' McClintock and wife, Jackie,

of Westville, Ind.; Shane McClintock and his wife, Michelle,

of Westville, Ind.; Jason Knief and fiancee, Roni Paulsen, of

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity

Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the

Rev. Nils C. ``Chris'' Hellevik officiating. Burial will be in

Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with full military rites

by the Mason City  Memorial Association.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.



Memorials may be given to the David N. Allen Memorial Fund.



David was born July 29, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., to Dan W. and

Carma (Brackey) Allen.



He grew up in Mason City and attended Mason City High School,

graduating from Mason City High School in 1959.



He served in the United States Navy for 10 years, which included

serving on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.



David was married to Audrey Lewis on Oct. 17, 1968, at the Naval

Air Station, Patuxent, Md.



After his discharge from the Navy, they moved back to Mason

City where he worked for Holnam Cement Company from 1976 to 1996.



He was an avid bass fisherman. He fished in various bass tournaments

where he took first place in the Nationals and 11th place in

the Internationals in 1978 at St. John's River in Florida.



Earlier this year, he finished first place at the Four Seasons

Bass Club, Albert Lea, Minn.



David also enjoyed bow hunting.



He was a member of the Rochester, Minn., Bass Club and the VFW.



Survivors include his wife, Audrey Allen, of Plymouth; daughter,

Karen Michaelsen and her husband, Terry, of Mason City; son,

Thomas Dickson and wife, Debi, Bel Air, Md.; son, Dennis Dickson

and his wife, Marlene, Westminster, Md.; daughter, Brenda Carter

and husband, Michael, Brooklyn Park, Md.; grandchildren, Mandy

and Shane Servantez of Mason City; Michael and Sandra Carter

of Maryland; Philip and Rebecca Dickson of Maryland; and Robbie

and Danielle Dickson of Maryland; his father, Dan Allen, Mason

City; one brother, Robert Allen and his wife, Judy, of Mason

City; and one sister, Cheryl Allen of Clear Lake; three nieces;

and one nephew.



He was preceded in death by his mother in 1980.

Doris Schmarzo

CHARLES CITY 



Doris (Mrs. Kenneth) Schmarzo, 68, a resident of 811 Beck St.,

died Wednesday evening (Oct. 23, 1996) in the Hospice Room of

the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.



Funeral services for ``Dorie'' Schmarzo will be held at 2:30

p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev.

Jack Ivey officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.



Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral

Home, 1205 S. Main St., and from 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday

and one hour prior to services at the church.



Doris Arlene Marcks Ruechel Schmarzo was born Dec. 9, 1927,

at St. Ansgar, the daughter of Walter and Leona Braun Marcks.



She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1945.



Dorie studied voice with Marie Spencer of St. Ansgar and opera

with Bartold Busch of Minneapolis where she received her formal

music education.



She then traveled as a member of the Parkinson Music Ensemble

for two years.



In August of 1947, she and Wayne Ruechel were married at St.

Ansgar. They divorced in 1958.



She moved to Charles City in 1958 where she became choir director

of the First Congregational Church choir.



In Aug. 6, 1965, she and Kenneth Schmarzo were married at Charles

City.



Dorie played trumpet in the Charles City Municipal Band, the

Charles City Brass Quintet, and the Polka Prost, while playing

Taps for military honor ceremonies at cemeteries with the Charles

City American Legion.



She was a member of the First Congregational Church where she

was choir director for 37 years and was organist for 25 years,

and was former director of the Youth Handbell Choir.



She was a voice coach and piano accompanist to countless students

for 50 years, played trumpet in numerous area Polka Bands for

15 years, was a member of the North Iowa municipal bands in the

communities of St. Ansgar, Clear Lake, Osage, Mason City, and

Charles City for 57 years, played trumpet in the North Iowa Concert

Band, and was a member of the North Iowa Band Festival Alumni

Marching Band, was an accompanist for state and music contests,

played organ  at Ray's Pizza Sing-Alongs, participated in numerous

community plays, including: Good-Bye Charlie Brown, A Funny Thing

Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Fantastics, Send in the

Clowns, and the Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and was manager of

the Boyer Music Store in Charles City for several years.



Living family members include her husband, Kenneth Schmarzo

of Charles City; two sons and their wives, Bill and Carolyn Schmarzo

of Palo Alto, Calif., and Al and Jenny Ruechel of Clearwater,

Fla.; a daughter and her husband, Suzette and Alan Blakestad

of Avoca; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Blakestad, Summer,

Chad, Justin and Caitlin Ruechel and Alec and Max Schmarzo; a

sister, Geneva (Mrs. Jim) Hanna of Osage; a niece, Julie Foth;

and a nephew, Mike Hanna.



She was preceded in death by her parents.



Memorials may be directed to the Dorie Schmarzo Music Scholarship

Fund which will annually give a music scholarship to the Charles

City High School senior student who best exemplifies the spirit,

love and musical leadership shown by Dorie over her many years

of involvement in music within Charles City.

Susie E. Kramer was born Oct. 18, 1895, in Irvington Township,

Kossuth County.



Survivors include one daughter, Adeline Marso of West Bend;

three sons, Andrew and Marvin of Algona, and Vernon of Humboldt;

16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter

Addie Mae Weld was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Clarion.

Aaron John Tietjens

HANLONTOWN



Aaron John Tietjens, 23, of 510 Main St., died Wednesday.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bride Colonial

Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Linda Johnson

of Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, and the Rev. Penny Hansel,

Collins, officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery,

Hanlontown.



There will be no public visitation.



Aaron John Tietjens was born Nov. 25, 1972, at Iowa City. He

was the son of Roger and Cheryl (Kennedy) Tietjens.



Aaron was united in marriage to Amy Scarcello on Sept. 27, 1996,

at Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown.



Aaron enjoyed playing sports in high school, especially football,

track and wrestling.



He liked to hunt racoon and enjoyed any outdoor activities.



Aaron loved his many dogs.



He will be sadly missed.



He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown.



Survivors include his wife, Amy Tietjens and two daughters,

Alexis Elaine and Samantha Maxine Tietjens, all of Hanlontown;

his parents, Roger and Cheryl Tietjens of Collins; his brother,

Andrew Tietjens, Collins; his sister, Amy Tietjens, Collins;

his maternal grandparents, Orain and Betty Hegney, Hanlontown;

his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Tietjens of Manly; and several

aunts, uncles, and cousins.



Aaron was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Merrill

Tietjens.

Richard J. Seuferer

CLEAR LAKE



Richard J. Seuferer, 82, a resident of the Oakwood Care Center,

died Wednesday (oct. 23, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient

Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with Monsignor Joseph

J. Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,

Mason City.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.



The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa

in his memory.



Richard was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Lacona, the son of John and

Anna (Dittmer) Seuferer.



He attended parochial school in Bauer. He served in the United

States Army during World War II in the European Theater, earning

a Purple Heart.



On Oct. 9, 1953, he married Eva P. Gallagher in Papilhon, Neb.

The couple farmed near Lacona from 1953-61. From 1961-73, they

lived and farmed in New Virginia. They lived in Plymouth from

1973-1988 and worked for the Cerro Gordo Park Commission at the

Rock Falls Park for 13 years, retiring in 1986.



They moved to an acreage south of Clear Lake in May of 1988.

Eva preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1988.



He lived at the acreage until ill health made it necessary for

him to move to the  Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.



Richard enjoyed knitting scarves, making latch hook rugs, fishing

and tending his farm animals.



He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake

and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church at Plymouth

and St. Mary's Catholic Church at Lacona.



He is survived by a son, Ron Burkholder, and his wife, Carol,

of Clear Lake; two daughters, Raeleen Mundhenke and her husband,

Marvin, of Watertown, S.D., and Eleanor Bornstein and her husband,

Leonard, of Charles City; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;

two brothers, Floyd and Giles Seuferer of Lacona; four sisters,

Gladys Dittmer of Lacona; Hildreth  Osborn of Des Moines; Beatrice

Osborn of Altoona, and Lorraine Johnson of Norwalk; and many

nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers,

Samons, Nilus and Gervus Seuferer; and one sister, Ione Ohnemus.
