Phyllis Eileen (Smith) Korneisel, 82, of Britt, passed away
unexpectedly on Friday, September 17, 2010, at Mercy Medical
Center North Iowa.
A memorial service will be
held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at the
United Methodist Church in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge
officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held
on Monday, September 20, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Ewing Funeral Home
and will continue one hour prior to the service at the
church.
Phyllis was born on August
15, 1928 in Lucas County, Iowa, to Charles Floyd and Icyle
Darlene (Hull) Smith. She was educated in country schools
prior to attending the Britt High School and graduated in 1947.
After graduation from Hamilton Business College in 1948,
Phyllis was secretary to the president of the college until
returning to Britt, where she worked for the Senneff & Buck Law
offices. On June 10, 1950, Phyllis was married to her high
school sweetheart, James Robert "Bob" Korneisel. After
raising her children, she returned to work at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in the business office and medical records
departments, retiring in 1989.
Phyllis was an active
member of the Britt United Methodist Church, United Methodist
Women, PEO, Hancock County Historical Society and Britt
Women's Club. Her interests included bridge, golf, travel,
photography, quilting, crocheting, gardening, genealogy and
her family.
She was preceded in death
by her parents and a sister-in-law, Joy Smith.
Survivors
include her husband, Bob; brother, Chuck Smith & his wife,
Dorothy of Britt; children, Kurt Korneisel of Murrieta, California,
Marcia Korneisel of Ames and Kent Korneisel & his
partner, Isiaah Crawford of Seattle, Washington; sisters-in-law,
Barbara Hullinger of Clear Lake and Kathryn Shriver of
Jefferson; brothers-in-law, Keith Korneisel of St.
Petersburg, Florida and Ken Korneisel & his wife, Millie of Orange
City, Florida; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the Hancock County Historical Society, United
Methodist Church or the West Hancock Scholarship and Loan Fund. |
Verda N. (Peterson)
Stratton
September 22, 2010
Verda N. (Peterson) Stratton, 89, of Britt, passed away on
Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital
in Britt.
Private family burial will
be at a later date.
Verda,
the daughter of Reuben and Evelyn (Gifford) Peterson was
born on December 6, 1920 in Denhart, Iowa. On March 8, 1941,
Verda was united in marriage to John Stratton. The couple
was blessed with one son, Monty. Verda
was employed at the milk plant in Britt and later at
Winnebago Industries in Forest City.
Verda
attended the United Methodist Church in Britt, where she was
active in the Women's Society and the quilting group. She
also enjoyed golfing, traveling and being with people. She
was a resident at the Summit House since it opened and
enjoyed spending time with the residents and its many
activities.
Verda
is survived by her daughter-in-law, Stefene (Everett)
Stratton; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
sister, RuBee (Emory) Schroeder of Britt; and brother, Raymond
Peterson of Mankato, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, John; son, Monty; three brothers,
Lewis, Clair and Calvin Peterson; one sister, Edna (Peterson)
Eden; one nephew and two nieces. |
Anna Heyer
September 29, 2010
Anna Heyer, 88, of Britt, died at the Hancock County Memorial
Hospital in Britt, on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
Funeral services were held
on
Friday, September 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in
Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial
followed in the Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 23, from 5-7:00 p.m., at
the
Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center and continued one hour
prior to the services.
Anna Heyer, was born on August
6, 1922, on a farm outside of Buffalo Center, to Ole and
Grace (Meinders) Folkerts. On September 19, 1940, Anna married
William Heyer. They were married at the First Reformed
Church Parsonage by Rev. Everts. They celebrated their 70th
wedding anniversary on September 19. After marriage, Anna and
William lived on a farm outside Buffalo Center until moving
to an acreage in 1982, also south of Buffalo Center. They
then moved into the town of Britt in June 1997. While living
on the farm, Anna enjoyed gardening and canning.
Anna enjoyed watching
Wheel of Fortune nightly. She also enjoyed reading,
especially the Buffalo Center Tribune, Globe Gazette and
Cappers Weekly. She enjoyed telling her friends and family
the weekly jokes from Cappers Weekly. Anna enjoyed music,
particularly old hymns and country.
Anna was also an avid
reader of the Bible. She and William attended church at
the First Reformed Church weekly until they weren't able due to
health, at which point Anna never missed a church broadcast.
The radio was the first thing to be brought to the nursing
home. Due to failing health, Anna moved to the Westview Care
Center on May 24, 2008. While at the nursing home, she
enjoyed playing bingo as well as the musical entertainment.
Anna loved being with her family. She always wanted her
family together for holidays, birthdays and anniversaries.
She particularly enjoyed spending time with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anna is survived by her
husband, William of Britt; four children, Judy (Dick) Leerar
of
Britt, Larry Heyer of Britt, Arlo Heyer of Britt and Bruce
(Debra) Heyer of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Brian (Kim) Leerar
of
Britt, (Teresa) Randy Leerar of Lees Summit, Missouri, Lori (Wil)
Benjamin of Chicago, Illinois, Jeremy (Jessica) Heyer of Boone and
Jennifer (Wade) Roberts of Clear Lake; eight
great-grandchildren; brother, Henry (Geraldine) Folkerts of
Britt; sister-in-law, Everdena Folkerts of Thompson; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; brother, Menno; and sister, Aleta. |
Dixie Lee Wood
September 29, 2010
Funeral services for Dixie Lee Wood, were held at 11:30 a.m.,
on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the United Methodist Church
in Corwith, with the Rev. Beatrice Kinzler officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.
Dixie Lee Wood, was born
on
October 4, 1936 in Iowa City, the daughter of Herman and
Jeanette (Gregory) Wessels. She grew up and attended school
in Mason City, graduating from the Mason City High School in
1954.
On September 6, 1953, Dixie
was united in marriage to Willis Wood at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. Willis later entered the military and the
couple moved around during that time before eventually
settling in Stilson in 1970. In 1973, they moved to Corwith
where they remained living until moving to the Summit House
in Britt in June 2009. |
Constance S.
Harbaugh
September 29, 2010
Constance S. Harbaugh, 58, of Waterloo, passed away on Friday,
September 24, 2010, at the Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo,
surrounded by her husband and two sons, exactly one year
after her sister, Jean donated stem cells to fight her battle
with leukemia.
Services were held at 10:30
a.m., on Tuesday, at the St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in
the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public
visitation was held from 4-8:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on 300 W. Ridgeway
Ave., Waterloo. A 7:00 p.m. vigil also was held. Visitation
continued one hour before the services. Memorials should be
directed to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center/University of
Iowa or the Acute Adult Leukemia Ward/University of Iowa.

Connie (Noble) Harbaugh,
was born on August 28, 1952 at the Forest City Hospital, to CD
(June) and Maxine (Seiler) Noble, the sixth of eight
siblings. Connie was raised on the family farm south of
Britt and attended the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she
was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith. She
attended Britt Schools, graduating in 1970 from the Britt High
School. She was thrilled to be able to celebrate her
40th high school class reunion in August.
Connie attended Hawkeye
Tech and graduated with a degree in laboratory technology.
After graduation she worked in Marshalltown and then
Waterloo at Schoitz Hospital. While attending college,
Connie met her husband, Steven Harbaugh. Connie and Steve
were married on August 4, 1973, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church
in Britt. To this union two sons were born, Matthew Steven
and Jonathan Russell. Connie was the most dedicated mother
two boys could ever have. She stayed home with them and they
were the joys of her life. When Matt and Jon were in school,
she decided to re-enter the work force, working with Steve
at his realtor office, Harbaugh/Winninger Realtors.
Connie had a spectacular
life; she was the life force of her family. Cooking
and shopping with her seven sisters and sisters-in-law were two
of her many hobbies. Three greatest loves of her life
were her grandsons, Benjamin, Samuel and Alexander. Her
favorite pastime was spending every moment she could with
them.
She was a member of the St.
Edward Catholic Church, where she served on various
committees. She was a member the Junior League of
Waterloo/Cedar Falls and also Small Group Birthday Club,
Card Club and Investment Club.
She is survived by her
husband, Steve; her two sons, Matt and wife, Katy of Waterloo
and their son, Alex; and Jon and wife, Kat of Cedar Falls and
their two sons, Ben and Sam; mother, Maxine Noble of Britt;
mother-in-law, Genevieve Harbaugh of Waterloo; siblings, Charlie
(Barb) Noble of Waseca, Minnesota, Patty (Nels) Dall-Winther
of Nora
Springs, Kathy (Myron) Stenzel of Wells, Minnesota, Jean (Dennis)
Abbas of Marshalltown, Pam (Pat) Zedrick of Cedar Rapids, Mike
(Vicki) Noble of Britt and Cindy Noble of Britt; sister-in-law,
Sheila (Craig) Stainbrook of Waterloo; as well as many nieces,
nephews, aunts, cousins and numerous friends
She was preceded in death
by her father, June Noble; father-in-law, Russell Harbaugh;
and brother-in-law, Allen Hansen.
Connie was thoughtful,
inspiring and lots of fun and will be missed by everyone who
knew her. |
Donald J. Hildman
October 6, 2010
Donald J. Hildman, 82, died on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A Funeral Mass was held
at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, October 4, at the Holy Family Catholic Church
in Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling as
Celebrant. Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in
Wesley. Visitation was held on Sunday evening, October 3, from
3-5:00 p.m., at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, where a
scriptural wake service was held at 4:30 p.m. Visitation
also continued one hour prior to the mass on Monday, at Holy
Family. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be
made to the Donald J. Hildman Memorial Fund.
Donald Joseph Hildman, was
born on May 25, 1928 in Wesley, to Joseph and Isabel (Matz)
Hildman. As a child he lived with his family on farms near
Britt, Clear Lake, Ventura and Rockwell. He graduated from
the Ventura High School with the class of 1947. In 1955, he
again moved with his family to the Plymouth area where they
raised cattle.
Donald always loved
dancing. He met Marie Hadacek while dancing at the Surf
Ballroom in Clear Lake. They were united in marriage in 1960
in Duncan. Once he and Marie were married, he continued to
farm and picked up a sales route for Broadbent Distributing
as well. Donald enjoyed farming and looked forward to
running into fellow farmers while in town.
Family was always a main
factor for Donald. He loved spending time with family and
friends and would always put the needs of those around him
before his own. He also enjoyed watching sports on
television and cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Iowa
Hawkeyes with his daughter, Jean. He was a member of the Holy
Family Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Michael’s
Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Those grateful for having
shared in Donald’s life are his daughter, Ann (Douglas)
Lampe of Waterloo; grandchildren, Marcus and Allison of Waterloo;
sister, Ruth Hildman of Mason City; and many sisters and
brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; wife, Marie; daughter, Jean; and a brother,
Raymond.
