Bartusek, Patsy Ann

MANLY - Patsy Ann Bartusek, 78, of 122 E. Main St., died Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a two-year battle with colon cancer.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery, Manly.
Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m.Sunday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and continue one hour prior the service Monday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Patsy Ann Bartusek Memorial Fund.
Patsy Ann Nasheim was born July 4, 1931, in Mason City, the daughter of Everett and Rose (Cassidy) Nasheim. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1949. Patsy was united in marriage to Marcus Bartusek on June 23, 1955, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly. With Marcus working for the Rock Island Railroad they made their home in Minneapolis, Minn., later being transferred to Manly. They were blessed with three children, raising their family in Manly.
Patsy worked at the Manly Hatchery, Oltman's Grocery and Iowa Kemper Insurance Co., working for 13 years and retiring in 1989.
Patsy loved animals, especially her dog Fritz. Other hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles and making afghans. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and camping. She loved her family camping trips, especially around the campfire!
Patsy was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly and the Wigwam-N-Wagon Campers where she was past secretary.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Marcus Bartusek of Manly; children, Lori (Hugh) Hansen of Pacific Junction, Iowa, Sherri (Charles) Schafer of Thornton, Marc (Kimberly) Bartusek of Slinger, Wis.; grandchildren Amanda and Megan Bachman of Glenwood, Nikki and Carrie Hansen of Glenwood, Kelsie (Kiley) Zimmerman of Davenport, Emily Schafer of Ames, Bethany Schafer of Cedar Falls, Marek and Sierra Bartusek of Slinger, Wis.; great-grandchildren Carter Pleake and Trey Hansen.
Patsy is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Rose and Melvin Haxton; and her father Everett Nasheim.

Dakken, Naomi O.

LAKE MILLS - Naomi O. Dakken, 94, of Lake Mills died Thursday (Sept. 10, 2009) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Lake Mills Evangelical Lutheran Synod Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Samuel Schmeling officiating. Burial will take place at Lime Creek Cemetery near Lake Mills.

Gilfillan, Carolyn Sondrol

BLOOMFIELD - Carolyn Sondrol was born in Clear Lake on Oct. 14, 1910, at the home of her grandmother. She is the daughter of Thorkel Einor Sondrol and Frances Haynes Sondrol, who preceded her in death. She had one sibling, a brother, Thorkel Sondrol Jr., who preceded her in death. Her son, Charles D. Gilfillan, died in 2006.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Gilfillan Harl, of Columbia, Mo.; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Anderson Gilfillan, of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Karin Harl Pestle and Douglas Harl, both of Columbia, Stefanie Harl Falge of Bentonville, Ark. and Gretchen Harl of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren are Jacob and Jennifer Pestle, Rebecca, Catherine and Brian Falge, and Nicholas, Madeline, and Emily Harl.

Carolyn graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1928, she went on to graduate in 1933 from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a B.S. in commerce. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi.

In 1933, she married Edwin O. Gilfillan on the lakeshore of her parents' home in Clear Lake. They moved to Detroit where Edwin completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital.

In the mid-1930s, the couple moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., where Edwin joined the Sault Polyclinic. Carolyn and her children spent the war years in Clear Lake with her parents, while Edwin served in the Pacific with the 37th Division of the U.S. Army.

In 1951, the couple relocated to Bloomfield, Iowa, where Edwin joined four of his brothers at The Gilfillan Clinic.

In 1971, the couple retired and moved to Englewood, Fla.

In 2001, Carolyn moved to Columbia, Mo., where she lived for several years at The Terrace and with her daughter.

For more than 50 years, Carolyn was member of PEO Chapter B. She was active in 20th Century Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Campfire Girls and Eastern Star.

Throughout her life, Carolyn did extensive knitting and needle point. She particularly enjoyed being around the water including swimming, boating, fishing and beach combing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting and fishing with her son, Charles, and his wife, Marcia, in Seattle and the San Juan Islands. In later years, she enjoyed spending time with great-grandchildren and traveling extensively with her daughter and went on several Elderhostel trips to locations such as Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, New York and Canada.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Wagler Funeral Home, 304 W. Jefferson St. in Bloomfield, with John Small officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Saturday, with the family present from 11 a.m. until the time of the service to greet friends at the funeral home.

Hartwell, Larry L.

MASON CITY - Larry Lee Hartwell of Milwaukee, Wis., was born Feb. 3, 1954, in Mason City, the son of Larry and Margaret (Snook) Hartwell. He graduated from Mason City High School and then went into the Marine Corps.

During Larry's time in the Marines he attained the rank of corporal and was a guard at the United States Embassy in Pakistan. Larry returned to Iowa after his father's death and began working for the Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. and then as a painter for Water Tower Paint and Repair Co. Larry worked as a painter for Rainbow Inc. for the last 15 years and had lived in Milwaukee for the last seven years.

Larry married Alida Metcalf on Aug. 29, 1979, in Minneapolis, Minn. Together they soon moved to Alexandria and began their family, having four sons, Ben, Lucas, Josh and Jared. Larry enjoyed attending his son's school activities and helped them prepare for go-cart races in the summer

He liked to hunt, ice fish and play golf. He also liked playing cards, especially cribbage. He enjoyed watching old westerns, listening to Johnny Cash music and following his beloved Green Bay Packers football team.

Larry L. Hartwell died on Saturday (Sept. 5, 2009) in Alexandria, Minn.

Survived by his sons, Ben Hartwell, Lucas (Kelly) Hartwell, Josh (Tanya) Hartwell and Jared Hartwell, all of Alexandria, Minn.; granddaughter, Anyia Ries of Minneapolis, Minn., and expecting grandson, Vincent Hartwell; brother, Darrell Hartwell of Mason City; sisters, Cathy Fox and Debbie Austin, both of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minn., with the Rev. Harold Knutson officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 936 and the American Legion Post No. 87 of Alexandria.

Hitzhusen, Donna M.

CHARLES CITY -Donna M. Hitzhusen, 97, of Charles City died Thursday morning (Sept. 10, 2009) at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Donna Hitzhusen will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Debra Lincoln of Jordan River and Colwell U.C.C. officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Donna Marie Chuick was born July 1, 1912, at Mason City, the daughter of Milan and Amelia (Knezovich) Chuick. She graduated from the Mason City High School and later attended Hamilton Business School for one year.

On June 13, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Hitzhusen. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Church Circle and Floyd County Medical Center Auxiliary.

Her interests included golf, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren.

Living family members include her two children, Linda (Doug) Groesbeck, of Charles City and Bill (Vicki) Hitzhusen, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Emily (Jeff) Griswold, Dan Groesbeck, Kate Hitzhusen and Lauren Hitzhusen: one great-grandson, Ethyn Groesbeck; two sisters, Mary (Larry) Turner, of Orlando, Fla., and Sophie Smith of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Milli Chorak; two brothers, Dan Chuick and Nick Chuick.

 Severe, Richard A. "Tony"

Nora Springs - Richard "Tony" A. Severe, 51, of 1715 Red Ball Road, Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Sept. 8, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after a nine-month courageous battle with cancer at home with his family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating. The family is requesting casual attire to the service.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Tony.

Tony was born March 22, 1958, in Oceanside, Calif., the son of Richard Leroy and Marlys (Arndt) Severe. He married Laurie (Hinrichsen) on Aug. 11, 1980, in Mason City and to this union two children were born.

Tony was an employee of Curries for 29 years, which he loved. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He was also an avid hunter that loved the outdoors. Tony was involved with trumpeter swan restoration, which he also enjoyed. Tony was also a serious Vikings football fan!

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, Nora Springs; his daughter, Chelsy (Mark) Schultz, Mason City; his grandchildren, Ayla and Eli Schultz, Mason City; his parents, Richard Severe, Eagen, Minn., and Marlys Kramm, Nora Springs; his siblings, Terry Severe, Nora Springs, Tammy Severe, Bloomington, Minn., Kim (Brian) McDonough, Nora Springs, Kelly (John) Krause, Nora Springs, and Khris (Julie) Kramm, Nora Springs; his honorary brother, Dale (Cindy) Lipp, and their children, Jake, Sam and Hunter, Nora Springs; his mother-in-law, Betty Hinrichsen, Nora Springs; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and endless friends and family - "you know who you are."

Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy (Helen) Severe and Ted (Margaret) Arndt; his father-in-law, Earl Hinrichsen; his infant daughter, Jennifer, and special friend, Paul Lipp.

Teschner, Mary Elizabeth

MASON CITY - Mary Elizabeth Teschner, 89, formerly of Mason City and Rockford, died Tuesday night (Sept. 8, 2009) at the Touch of Home Assisted Living Center in Tomah, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating. Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Mason City.

Mary was born on May 20, 1920, in Rockford, the daughter of Stanley Leon and Myrtle Pearl (Brown) Ruggles. She graduated from Rockford High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was engaged as a secretary for the Rationing Board in Charles City and then as secretary/bookkeeper at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Upon moving back to the area she worked for the state of Iowa in the department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Mason City until her retirement in 1969. She was an accomplished pianist and shared her talent with the Rockford United Methodist Church and the Naomi Woman's Circle of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a member. She also served as the secretary of the Rockford Woman's Club. She loved to bake pies and cakes, tending her flower gardens and traveling. Her trips took her to Europe and Hawaii, also taking several bus trips and taking the Amtrak train out West.

Those thankful in sharing Mary's life include her loving husband, Edmund, of 26 years, of Tomah, Wis.; her three children, Judith R. DuFault of Davenport, Elizabeth "Libby" L. and her fianc�, Leland Amaral, of Sparta, Wis., and Stanley D. and Mary Sherbino of Winner, S.D.; her blended children, Linda Teschner of Merrill, Wis., Peggy and her husband, Rick Gremler, of Brokaw, Wis., Daniel Teschner of Wautoma, Wis., Thomas and his wife, Julie Teschner, of Gleason, Wis., and William Teschner of Merrill, Wis.; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, two infant sisters, one infant son and one grandson, Chad Teschner, preceded Mary in death.

Warren, Velma Ruth

CLEAR LAKE - Velma Ruth Warren, 88, of 501 S. Ninth St., Clear Lake, died Thursday (Sept. 10, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Family suggests memorials to the Velma Warren Memorial Fund to be used to establish a scholarship at Clear Lake High School .

Velma was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Faulkner, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Peters) Roegner. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1938.

Velma married Marion Warren on Nov. 9, 1942, in Unionville, Mo. They lived in Geneva from 1945 until 1959. They then moved to Clear Lake, where she had lived in present home for more than 50 years.

She worked part time for the Clear Lake Sale Barn and later the Garner Sale Barn.

Velma was an avid sports fan, listening to all the Clear Lake Lions, Hawkeyes and Twins ballgames. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and doing word puzzles.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.

Velma is survived by her son, Dennis Warren and his wife, Patti, of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Jeff Warren and his wife, Tara, of Excelsior, Minn., Kim Compton and her husband, Chris, of Ankeny, Ashley Ferin of Ankeny, Lindsey Ferin of Waterloo, and Whitney Ferin of Iowa City; five great-grandchildren, Cadence Compton, Brooklynn Compton, Jackson Compton, Lael Warren and Logan Warren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marion Warren, in 2001; one brother, Bob Roegner; and three sisters, Lucille Abbas, Ruth Hofmeister and Leona Woodley.

 Brandau, Gertrude

Osage - Gertrude Brandau, age 102, of Osage died Thursday (Sept. 10, 2009) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Ave., Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.
Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday before services at Eden Presbyterian Church.
Gertrude was born Dec. 19, 1906, to Harm and Jennie (Buntjer) Hoppen in Rosemont, Neb. She was one of five children. On March 16, 1936, she was united in marriage to Edgar Brandau at her parents' home in Rosemont. Edgar and Gertie farmed in the Rudd area until his death in May 1969. She then moved to Charles City, living there until 2004, at which time she moved to Evergreen senior living apartments in Osage. She was a resident of Faith Lutheran Home for the past 2� years.
Gertie was a member of Eden Presbyterian Church, and the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Rudd Jolly Jacks and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed playing "500," gardening, and was a great cook. She also enjoyed doing crafts, quilting, crocheting and knitting.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (Charlie) Fouts of Floyd; grandson, Dana (Julie) Aschenbrenner and children, Joseph, Sam and John of Iowa City; grandson, Mike (Beth) Aschenbrenner and children, Corey, Emma and Mikayla of Lake Mills; grandson, Steve (Kristi) Aschenbrenner and children, Dylan and Claudia, of Osage; granddaughter, Michelle (Barry) Sweet of Charles City; sister-in-law, Ruth Ploeger of Charles City; brother-in-law, Robert Brandau of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar in May 1969; three sisters; and one brother.

 Carr, Patricia

Patricia A. Carr was born Dec. 4, 1929 in Iowa City, Iowa as Mae LaVonne Ruckman. She was adopted and renamed by Chester and Iva Williams in 1930. Pat grew up in Mason City, Iowa and graduated from Mason City High School and Hamilton School of Business. She also studied at St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota.
On July 19, 1947, she was married to William E. Carr. Their marriage took them to St. Paul, Minn., Cedar Rapids, Peoria, Ill., and in 1970 to Loveland, Colo. The great loves of her life were her Lord Jesus, her family, time spent in music, reading and gardening. Pat loved singing and was involved in music at the Evangelical Covenant, Galilee Baptist, First Methodist and Faith Evangelical churches. Travel with family and friends was a favorite pastime and included 13 mission trips.
Pat is preceded in death by her birth mother, Mabel Ruckman; and adopted parents, Chester and Iva Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill; daughter Candace Keil and husband, Gary, of Durango Colo.; son W. Thomas and wife, Debbie, of Timnath, Colo.; six grandchildren: Anna, Nathan, Rebekah and Benjamin Keil and Daniel and Michael Carr; one great-grandson, Dominic Keil; and brother, Clayton Murphy and wife, Rose, of Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Faith Evangelical Church in Loveland, Colo. Lunch reception will follow.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, Colo., and prior to the service at the church.

Ferley, Glenn O.

NORTHWOOD - Glenn O. Ferley, 88, of Northwood died Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Glenn Orville Ferley was born on Dec. 7, 1920, in Hartland Township, Worth County, Iowa, to parents Alfred T. and Gena (Loken) Ferley. He attended country school and was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood.
On Dec. 19, 1943, Glenn was united in marriage with Lyla C. Jacobson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minn., by the Rev. Knutson. The couple made their home in rural Northwood, where Glenn and Lyla farmed.
The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling together, visiting places such as Norway, Alaska, the Ozarks and Branson. Glenn was a lifelong and active member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his children, Cheryl (Larry) Schuttler of Grafton, Paul (Sharyl) Ferley of Northwood, Linda (Jerry) Holty of Hastings, Minn., Gerald (Lucretia) Ferley of Northwood, Shirley (Terry) Turvold of Cottage Grove, Minn., Duane (Solla) Ferley of Hastings, Minn., and Glenda Schiller of Hastings, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother Seymour Ferley and his wife, Darlene, of Emmons, Minn.; a sister, Ardella Hagen, of Manly; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lyla on Oct. 29, 2003; a baby brother; and a brother-in-law, Leo Hagen.

ST. ANSGAR - Shirley (Palmer) Duenow, 87, of St. Ansgar died Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) in Osage.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Shirley was born on Jan. 24, 1922 in Lyle, Minn., to Justus and Theressa (Nelson) Palmer. She was baptized on Oct. 7, 1923, in the Union Presbyterian Church. She attended grade school in Union Township and the St. Ansgar schools, graduating from high school in 1939. She was later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Shirley married Kenneth Duenow on Sept. 27, 1941, in the Immanuel Lutheran parsonage by the Rev. Paul Brammer with Gena Palmer and Mrs. Brammer as witnesses. Their daughter, Judith Kay, was born on March 21, 1943, and passed away on March 13, 1997.
Shirley was an active member in Lutheran Women's Missionary League in Immanuel and Trinity, Osage. She spent 11 years with the Mitchell County 4-H organization as a leader. She was an active member of the St. Ansgar Garden Club for 45 years and served as a flower show judge for 30 years. Mitchell County Fair superintendent of the Floral Hall was a 30-year activity.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of St. Ansgar; three grandchildren, Daniel of Strawberry Point, Laurel Feldt and her husband, Spencer, of Osceola, Wis., Kari Low of Cedar Rapids; three great grandchildren, Gabriel, Jack and Morgan Feldt; many nieces and nephews; one sister, Faye Dow, and husband of Torrance, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Judith Kay; and two sisters, Charlotte Haack and Peggy Ziebell

Vician, Dennis C.

Dennis C. Vician, 63, formerly of Mason City, passed away Thursday (Sept. 10, 2009) at his home in Emmetsburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. His body was donated as per his wishes to help others in need.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Joyce's Funeral Home, Emmetsburg.
Dennis was born Jan 14, 1946, in Charles City. His parents are William and Belva Vician of Mason City. He married Patricia Mosiman on April 6, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Dennis graduated from Mason City High School in '65 and went on to UNI, graduating with a degree in human services. For the past 21 years he has been the administrator at Kathleen's Care Inc. in Emmetsburg.
Dennis was active in Bethany Lutheran Church, was treasurer for the Emmetsburg Boy Scouts, treasurer of the Kiwanis, and a member of Moose Lodge 1328 in Mason City.
He enjoyed following E-Hawks football and baseball and making friendly wagers with all his friends. He was extremely devoted to his family and enriched the lives of everyone he knew. His strength and determination through incredible life challenges inspires his family and friends every day.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Mosiman Vician; his son and daughter-in-law, David James and April and a grandson to arrive in November 2009, of Fullerton Calif.; his parents, William and Belva Vician of Mason City; sisters Bonnie of Mason City, Jacqueline (Terry) Soli of Fort Madison and Wanda (Mark) Tritch, Crete, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Merlin) Brockhoff of Arlington Minn., Geneva (Marvin) Kittner of Mason City; very special friends Chuck and Linda Hackleman of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a countless number of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Marion Wible, Steve and Blanche Vician; his in-laws Art and Dorothy Mosiman;

Wood, Karen Kay

Karen Kay Wood, 47, of Kahoka, Mo., passed away Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at the Keokuk Area Hospital.
Karen was born on March 14, 1962, in Mason City. She grew up and was educated in Mason City. She lived in St. Ansgar for several years before moving to Revere, Mo., and then to Kahoka, Mo., with her longtime companion, Merle Zweifel.
She is survived by her parents, Leo and Iola (Ogaard) Wood of Mason City; one son, James Wood of Mason City; four sisters: Leslie (Larry) Knudson of Kansas City, Kansas, Debra (Jack) Digman of Rosemount, Minn., Diane (Mike) Ross of Tucson, Ariz., and Rhonda Genzler of Mason City; and one brother, Ronald Wood of Mason City.
Wilson's Funeral Home in Kahoka, Mo., performed the cremation.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at a later date in Revere, Mo.

Younker, Gaye G.

OSAGE - Gaye G. Younker, 76, of Osage died Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Gaye G. Younker was born on a farm five miles north of Osage, on Oct. 16, 1932, the third child of Earl C. and Doris (Cole) Schmidt. She spent most of her life in Mitchell County, attended rural country school and Osage High School.
Gaye worked in the office at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital from 1966 until her retirement in 1994. In her off hours she enjoyed gardening, rock collecting, reading, cooking and spending time with her family. Gaye was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with the Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following the service at the First United Methodist Church in Osage.
Gaye is survived by one son, Rodney "Zeke" (Sally) Ogden of Osage; one daughter, Jessica (Larry) Voight of Osage; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Schmidt of Moline, Ill.; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Randy Ogden; two brothers, Paul and Frederick Schmidt; one great-grandson, Chayce Duncomb; and one niece, Debra Schmidt.

Bridges, Lucille

THORNTON -Lucille LuVergne Stille Bridges, 91, of Thornton, passed away Saturday (Sept. 12, 2009) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the United Methodist Church, Thornton. Interment will be at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home, 107 N. Second St., Thornton, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Lucille.
Lucille was born Oct. 4, 1917, on the family farm west of Klemme, the daughter of John J. and Clara (Gast) Stille. She attended rural school in Hancock County and graduated from Klemme High School in 1935. After graduation she earned a teaching certificate from Cedar Falls Teacher's College and taught in rural schools around Klemme for several years.
Lucille married Cecil Bridges on May 21, 1938, at the Methodist parsonage in Northwood. Lucille and Cecil farmed for 31 years southeast of Thornton. In 1980 they retired and moved into Thornton.
Lucille was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Thornton where she served on many committees and was very active in United Methodist Women. She enjoyed writing skits and poems for various programs in the community. She took great pride in her garden, flowers, and yard. Everyone who knew Lucille enjoyed her wit and sense of humor. She liked helping people, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Lucille is survived by her three sons, Stanley and wife, Marie, of Hampton, Rock and wife, Suzanne, of Lake Mills, Chad and wife, Sherry, of Plattsmouth, Neb.; sister, Fern Carlson, of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Grace Stille, Klemme; seven grandchildren, LeeAnn Wickwire, Sally Stanbrough, Barry Bridges, Brian Bridges, Gail Bridges, Laurie Bridges and Amy Teixeira; two step-grandchildren, Michele Holt and Clint Fielding; 14 great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren; special niece, Carol Carlson, and other special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, in 2006; her parents; a sister, Gertrude Beier; four brothers, Quentin, Kermit, George and Virgil; and one step-grandchild, Vince Fielding.

Nora Springs - Iris E. Brierly, 87, of 15 Fourth S.W., Nora Springs, died Saturday (Sept. 12, 2009) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Iris was born May 24, 1922 in Alma, Wis., the daughter of Fred and Edith (Hoover) Brown.
Iris married Delbert Brierly on May 4, 1942. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed gardening, painting, cross-stitching and her family.
She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Nora Springs American Legion Auxiliary.
Iris is survived by her husband, Delbert Brierly, Nora Springs; two children, Marvin Brierly and his wife, Kathie, Mason City, and Connie Schuver and her husband, Bruce, West Lafayette, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jason Brierly, Rapid City, S.D., Jim Schuver and his wife, Christine, Irmo, S.C., Wendy Simpson and her husband, Travis, Victor, Nathan Brierly, Mason City, and Angie Murley and her husband Bob, Sac City, and nine great-grandchildren.

Corporon, Donald Lewis

Schertz, Texas - Chief Master Sgt. (Retired) Donald Lewis Corporon of Schertz, Texas, departed this life on Aug. 28, 2009, at his home of complications from cancer to be with his risen lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Services were held Sept. 1, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas. Burial followed with military rites at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Don was born on April 30, 1935, to Lewis and Juanita (Schaefer) Corporon. He spent his early life on a farm near Grafton. Don graduated from Manly High School. His family moved to the Dougherty area.
Chief Corporon traveled the world while serving in the Army National Guard and 24 years in the Air Force. During his military career he was assigned to Korea, Germany, Thailand, Texas, the Pentagon and the U.S. Embassy in Norway. Upon his military retirement Don held various club management positions in the San Antonio area.
He lived a long and productive life filled with much honor and integrity. Don gave his family strength, courage and faith in God that will always be cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Donna (David) Volitis, Schertz; his sons Michael (Shelly), Fort Worth, Brent (Joyce), Seguin, and W. Craig, Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren that were the delight of his life; also his siblings, Vern (Linda), Aurora, Colo., Robert (Nancy), Dougherty, David (Carol), Sioux City, Margery (Larry) Hahn, Clear Lake, Lester (Linda), Dougherty, Lavonne (Ron) Rohn, Mankato, Minn., Judy (Pete) Haun, Draper, Utah; sister-in-law, Norma Corporon; brother-in-law, Dallas McClemons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kinseth, Cyrena Katherine

Funeral services for Cyrena Katherine Kinseth were held Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Burial was in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Cyrena Katherine (Dewaard) Kinseth was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Renwick, the daughter of Jacob A. and Marie (Edell) Dewaard. She graduated from Corwith High School in Corwith with the class of 1948. She received her nurse's training at Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown in 1950.
Cyrena was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Kinseth on March 25, 1953, at the Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha.
Cyrena worked as a nurse at the Belmond Clinic in Belmond, where she met Kenneth, who was a regular blood donor there. From 1966 until 1977 Kenneth and Cyrena owned and operated the Cliff House Hotel and Restaurant in Decorah.
Cyrena planned weddings and special events for customers and was known as the consummate hostess with a special knack for making all guests feel welcome. In 1977 they sold the hotel business, semi-retired, and helped their children become established in the hotel business.
Cyrena was saddened to leave Decorah in the winter of 2008, which she loved so much. Cyrena and Kenny loved Decorah where over the years they developed so many close friends. From Decorah, Cyrena moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Council Bluffs, one mile from Linda's home, where she found new friends and enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren regularly.
Cyrena died on Saturday (Sept. 5, 2009) at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, at the age of 80.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on May 5, 2001; her parents; one sister; and two brothers.
Cyrena is survived by her daughter, Linda (Keith) Skinner of Council Bluffs; her three sons, Leslie (Alisa) Kinseth of Clear Lake, Bruce (Lisa) Kinseth of Coralville and Gary (Darla) Kinseth of Mason City; her foster son, Jack "In" (Tammy) Won of Orange County, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anne Uken of Kanawha and Nellie Eliason of Pella; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Dewaard of Corwith, Sherri Kinseth of Belmond, and Janice Kinseth, of Belmond; her brother-in-law, Rolland Kinseth of Belmond.

MARSHALLTOWN - William L. Springer, 84, of Marshalltown died Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown.

Bill practiced law in the Mason City and the Marshalltown areas for more than years, retiring at the age of 71.

Hilton, James D. "Jim"

BRITT -James "Jim" D. Hilton, 81, of Britt died Saturday (Sept. 12, 2009) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with the Rev. Lee Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
James Donald Hilton, the son of George and Evalyn (Weisenberger) Hilton, was born June 11, 1928, at Jesup. He grew up in LaPorte City where he attended high school. Jim entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WW II. Following his honorable discharge in 1948 he returned to LaPorte City where he began his truck-driving career.
On May 10, 1959, he married Jane Tegtmeyer at First Lutheran Church in Britt. They lived in LaPorte City before moving to California in 1963 where Jim was employed as a truck driver for Sheldon Oil Company.
In 1967 they returned to Iowa and made their home in Britt. Jim continued his involvement in trucking, working for Stan Ziesmer in Garner.
In 1970 Jim began trucking on his own, being leased to Warren Transportation in Waterloo where he transported John Deere equipment nationwide. Jim also worked with his daughter, Deb, operating a craft business, "D & J Creations," for a time in the 1990's.
Due to ill health, Jim retired in 2001 after driving a few years for Winnebago Industries in Forest City and Stellar Industries in Garner.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, playing cards at family gatherings and especially attending his grandsons' sporting events.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church where he had served as a trustee.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jane, of Britt; daughters Debra Schulz of Garner and Cindy (Robert) Denzer of St. Chares, Minn.; three grandchildren: Trista (Adam) Rowland of Chatfield, Minn., and their two children, McKenzi and Carson, Dustin Schulz and his special friend, Hannah Deibler, of Rockwell and her daughter, Jada, and Cody Schulz of Garner; a sister, Carole (Charles) Van Horn of Traer; three sisters-in-law: Joyce Hilton, Darlene Thimmesch and Anne Hilton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Victor, George Jr. and Harold Hilton; and sisters, Arlyne Bauer and Regina Harrell.

Mullenbach, Ralph P.

STACYVILLE - Ralph P. Mullenbach, 91, of Stacyville died Monday (Sept. 14, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Ralph Paul Mullenbach, 91, of Stacyville passed away on Monday surrounded by his family.
Ralph was born, May 11, 1918, to Steve and Katie (Huemann) Mullenbach on a farm near Stacyville. He lived in Stacyville most of his life.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 569 for 66 years. He married Zola Emerson of Little Cedar on May 19, 1944. They had three children: Verlyn, Curt and Cheryl.
Ralph bought a livestock buying business and International truck from Leon and Ralph Green in 1947. He operated the business until 1985 when his son, Verlyn, took it over. Ralph continued to buy cattle up to a year before his death.
He was a fireman and councilman for many years. He drove school bus for St. Ansgar Community Schools and continued as unofficial "bus driver" for his grandchildren. It was not an unusual sight to see Ralph driving around Stacyville visiting and joking with his friends and acquaintances.
Ralph was a loving and devoted grandfather to Kristie (Jeff), Troy (Tami), Cory, Kelly (Dan) and Danielle. He always kept the candy drawer full and was grateful his grandchildren were thoughtful enough to leave one piece of candy for grandpa. He was proud great-grandfather to Jake, Bailey, Ty, Zack, Sophia, Brooklyn and Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Irvin, Del, Al and Norbert; and his sister, Virginia; grandson, Robbie; and granddaughter-in-law, Mandy.
He is survived by his wife, Zola; children, Verlyn (Sue), Curt (Sandy), and Cheryl (Richard Wohlgamuth); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Tom) McCarthy, Helen Brown; sisters-in-law, Bertilla, Gladys, Irene and Vivian; and many nieces and nephews.

Williams, Marvin M.

Marvin M. Williams, 82, of Ames and formerly of Mason City, died on Saturday (Sept. 12, 2009) at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 15, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Marvin Williams was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Boone to John and Vera (Lycke) Williams. He married Jeanne Wells on Feb. 22, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and renewed their vows at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City on July 27, 1979.
He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, NARRVE, North Central Iowa Genealogical Society, and was a volunteer tax preparer for AARP. He retired from the Chicago and NorthWestern railroad after 41 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Williams, of Ames; two daughters, Marva Jean Williams and Kim (Arnold) Hill, all of Des Moines; one son, Scott (Jan) Williams of Ames; grandchildren, Hannah and Mason Williams of Ames, Jason (Jessica) Hill and their daughter, Ruby, of Oakridge, Tenn., and Sarah (John) Cooper and their children Luke, Greg and Lucy of Marseilles, Ill.; niece, Colleen Anderson of Ankeny; and nephews and niece, John, Jay and Jody of California.
