She loved nature and the outdoors which she depicted in her oil paintings. Her family “lived out of the woods hunting rabbits, squirrels, pheasants and fish.” Lyla’s family farm was made available to the Boy Scouts of Marble Rock and is now a camp enjoyed by countless youth each year.
Living family members include her three daughters: Charlotte (Ben) Sieck, of Willmar, Minn., Rita Squires, of Clear Lake, and Joan (Mark) Norvold, of Cedar Falls; two sons: Doug (Joan) Truex, of Waterloo, and Rick Truex, of Clear Lake; grandchildren: Amy Van Arkel, Ryan Van Arkel, Matt Van Arkel, Amanda Truex, Dawn Truex, Brian Truex, Nick Truex, Doug Truex, Tim Squires, Jeff Sieck, and Terry Sieck; three sisters, Alma Jean Hinrichsen, of Rockwell, Opal Ackley, of Marble Rock, and Shirley Herman, of Greene; brother-in-law: Charles (Evelyn) True, of Greene.
