Albert ‘Ole A.C.’ Kranz

MASON CITY — Albert “Ole A.C.” Kranz, 81, of Mason City, passed away on Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania, Mason City, with Pastor Steve Hansen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with full military rites being conducted by the Mason City Veteran’s Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Albert Chris Kranz was born on March 10, 1925, in Lenora, Kan., the son of Adolph and Gertie (Johanneson) Kranz. Ole attended schools in Mason City, Corwith and Britt. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 9, 1943, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1945. Ole returned to Mason City and worked for Decker Meat Packing Plant and then went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad, where he retired as an engineer after 42 years of employment.

Ole was united in marriage to Maxine Ewald on Dec. 11, 1948, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Ole had a cabin on Eagle Lake near Britt where he would go hunting. He enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas. While in Texas, he enjoyed playing his guitar in “jam sessions” and listening to bluegrass music. He loved watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and spending time with his family.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Ole is survived by his wife, Maxine, Mason City; daughter, Diane (Dr. Gerald) Paluska, Ottumwa; sons, James (Rebecca) Kranz, Wildwood, Mo., and David (Deborah) Kranz, Mason City; and eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, John and Mary Paluska, Brandon and Courtney Kranz, and Jamie, Katie and Amy Kranz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. Monsignor John P. Chihak

GARNER — The Rev. Monsignor John P. Chihak, 95, of Garner, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Archbishop Jerome Hanus, OSB, officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Elma.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Newman Catholic School or Loras College.

The Rev. Msgr. John P. Chihak, the youngest of nine children of Frank and Mary (Filippi) Chihak, was born March 1, 1911, on a farm near Elma, Iowa. He was educated in country and parochial schools in Lourdes and Elma. Msgr. Chihak graduated from Columbia College (now Loras College) in Dubuque in 1933. Msgr. Chihak took his seminary training at the Sulpician Seminary of Theological College at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1936, by Archbishop Francis J.L. Beckman at the Cathedral of St. Raphael in Dubuque, Iowa. Msgr. Chihak served in many parish assignments in the Archdiocese of Dubuque including St. Ludmila in Cedar Rapids (1936-1940), St. Wenceslaus in Spillville (1940-1944 and 1946-1968), Holy Trinity Mission at Vining (1944-1946), and St. Wenceslaus in Duncan (1968-1986). In 1972, Msgr. Chihak was appointed Dean of the Mason City Deanery and in 1974 received the honorary title of monsignor. In the last years of Msgr. Chihak’s life, he resided at Cardinal Grove in Garner where he continued to minister to the residents of the facility. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, reading and gardening. Msgr. Chihak was a wonderful story teller and enjoyed visiting with anyone who would come by.

Msgr. Chihak was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ludwig; seven brothers, Frank Jr., Joe, Charlie, Adolph, Rudy, Msgr. Tony and William Chihak; and his housekeeper of 52 years, Mary Kucera.

Msgr. Chihak is survived by two sisters-in-law, Vincentia Chihak and Mary Ellen Chihak; several nieces and nephews; and his brother priests of the Archdiocese of Dubuque of whom he shared 70 years of ministry.

The family and friends of Msgr. Chihak would like to thank the staff of Cardinal Grove Assisted Living, Concord Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the care and compassion shown to Msgr. Chihak in his final days.

Claytus E. Melcher

CLEAR LAKE — Claytus E. Melcher, 94, of 5913 30th Lane N., St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2006) at the Laurellwood Nursing Home, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, Iowa, with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the Clear Lake VFW.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by the Benevolence Lodge No. 145 AF&AM.

Family suggests memorials to the Claytus E. Melcher Memorial Fund.

Claytus Eben Melcher was born June 19, 1912, in Garner, Iowa, the son of Lewis R. and Mattie M. (Johnson) Melcher. He graduated from Garner High School.

He and Ferne F. Brooks were married in East Orange, N.J., on June 13, 1934. Early in their marriage, Claytus was a salesman for the People’s Gas and Electric Co. in Mason City. In the opening years of World War II, Claytus worked on the Al-Can Highway in Alaska and on U.S. military construction projects in the Hudson Bay area of Canada.

When he returned to the United States, he joined the Navy and served as an electrician on the USS Stephen Potter in the South Pacific for almost two years. During this time, his ship was engaged in several large naval battles with the Japanese forces in the South China Sea. His ship was in the task force near Okinawa when the USS Franklin and the USS Enterprise were hit by kamikazes in March 1945 and later was engaged in the rescue of survivors from the USS Bunker Hill when it was hit in May 1945.

During his lifetime, he was a finish carpenter and a cabinet maker, working for many contractors in the area. He also worked as a millwright on ICBM missile sites in South Dakota. When he retired in 1979, he and Ferne began spending their winters in St. Petersburg, Fla., moving there permanently in 2001.

Claytus was one of Clear Lake’s best known and most successful fisherman for many years, a hobby he later pursued with considerable zeal in Florida. He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He and Ferne spent many years traveling with their Avion trailer throughout the Midwest. He was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clear Lake; a 62-year member of the Masonic Lodge, including a stint as Worshipful Master of Verity Lodge in Clear Lake; a member of El Kahir Temple of the Shrine in Cedar Rapids; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of the United Methodist Church of Clear Lake.

Claytus is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ferne; their daughter, Linda M. Neese, St. Petersburg, Fla., and son, Mark L. (Ivy) Melcher, Mount Jackson, Va.; five grandchildren: Julia Schipper, Thomas Schipper, Mark (Carol) Melcher, Paula (Mark) Johnson, Deborah (Michael) Murphy; and seven great-grandchildren.

Claytus is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mattie Melcher; sister, Leota DeVary; and granddaughter, Marsha M. Schipper

Marian Havens

BELMOND — Marian Havens, age 84, of Belmond, died Monday (Sept. 18, 2006) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Marian Havens will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Belmond with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane S., Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Marian Dylorus Havens, the daughter of Lloyd and Gladys Garver, was born July 21, 1922, at Clearfield, Iowa.

She graduated from Corydon High School and attended Iowa Methodist, AIB in Des Moines, and Parsons College.

Marian was united in marriage to James Havens on May 27, 1945. Jim started in the dry cleaning business with Marian’s father, running the business in Corydon, Iowa, for nine years. In 1956, they came to Belmond and began the Model Dry Cleaners, which they operated side by side.

Marian loved her family, music, dancing, teaching her grandchildren to play the piano, reading, needlepoint, and knitting. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren in all their activities and sports. Marian really loved her Hawkeyes!

Marian was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Belmond for more than 50 years. Marian was a charter member of the Chapter LV PEO for 57 years as well as a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years

Surviving children are Don Havens and wife, Judy, of Belmond, Mark Havens and wife, Terri, of Belmond, Susan Johnson and husband, Kent, of Wapello; grandchildren, Rita (Havens) Simmons and husband, Geoff, Sarah Havens, Michael Havens, Andrea and Karra Johnson, Travis and Derek Havens; great-grandchildren, Emma, Sally and Ben Simmons; a sister, Donna Huston, and husband, Ed, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a niece, Jane Collier (Chuck) of Edmond, Okla.

Preceding Marian in death were her parents, Gladys and Lloyd Garver; her husband, Jim, and an infant son, James Dennis. Also preceding her in death was a nephew, James Burger.

The family suggests memorials be given in Marian’s name.

ALGONA — Merlin M. Schumacher, 68, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Algona, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at the Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with Father Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Lyla Truex

MARBLE ROCK — A Celebration of Life Service for Lyla Truex, 90, of Marble Rock, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock with Pastor Kenneth Kent officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 22, 2006, at the Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Lyla Smith was born Nov. 10, 1915, on a farm in Union Township, Floyd Co., a daughter of Verl and Bertha (Luther) Smith, and died Thursday (Sept. 21, 2006) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, where she had been a resident since September 2001.

Lyla grew up in a very poor family. Her parents along with her five brothers and sisters moved in with her great-grandmother, who was crippled. The Christian home Lyla was raised in taught honesty and morality. She had a strong foundation deeply rooted in the Christian faith and enjoying God’s simple blessing.

Lyla was blessed with the ability to play the piano at the tender age of 3, along with learning to play two additional instruments. Throughout her life she blessed her family and friends with her musical talents. Lyla received her education in the Marble Rock Public Schools, graduating in 1934.

On April 21, 1934, she was united in Marriage to Wilfred Carl Truex in Lime Springs, Iowa. To this union were born five children who became the center of her universe. Lyla and Carl remained devoted to each other for 60 years until his death on Dec. 7, 1994.

She loved nature and the outdoors which she depicted in her oil paintings. Her family “lived out of the woods hunting rabbits, squirrels, pheasants and fish.” Lyla’s family farm was made available to the Boy Scouts of Marble Rock and is now a camp enjoyed by countless youth each year.

Living family members include her three daughters: Charlotte (Ben) Sieck, of Willmar, Minn., Rita Squires, of Clear Lake, and Joan (Mark) Norvold, of Cedar Falls; two sons: Doug (Joan) Truex, of Waterloo, and Rick Truex, of Clear Lake; grandchildren: Amy Van Arkel, Ryan Van Arkel, Matt Van Arkel, Amanda Truex, Dawn Truex, Brian Truex, Nick Truex, Doug Truex, Tim Squires, Jeff Sieck, and Terry Sieck; three sisters, Alma Jean Hinrichsen, of Rockwell, Opal Ackley, of Marble Rock, and Shirley Herman, of Greene; brother-in-law: Charles (Evelyn) True, of Greene.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, LaVerne “Slivers” Smith; her husband; and two grandchildren, Chris Van Arkel and Tony Sieck.

MASON CITY — Arthur S. “Stan” Johnson, 81, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at the St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Robert B. Falt

TUCSON, Ariz. — Robert B. Falt, died at home on Sept. 9, 2006, in Tucson, Ariz., following a long illness.

Formerly of Cedar Rapids, Mr. Falt was a science teacher for 36 years in the Cedar Rapids Community School System.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Jennifer Johnson; two granddaughters, Jessica, 10 years old, and Madison, 8 years old, all of Tucson. His mother Reba V. Davison; and his sister, Sandra (Loren) Huber, of Mason City.

Memorial Services will be held in Tucson.

Alicia Genevieve Bergo

NORTHWOOD — Alicia Genevieve Bergo, 93, of Northwood, died Thursday (Sept. 21, 2006) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the South Shell Rock Cemetery in rural Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

Alicia Genevieve Bergo was born on Feb. 7, 1913, in Bottineau, North Dakota, the daughter of Nilen and Inga (Sanderson) Johnson. She was baptized in February 1913 in the Lutheran Church in Bottineau, North Dakota, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation on Aug. 28, 1927, by the Rev. Hans Fosnes at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. Alicia received her education in the Northwood Community School and graduated from Northwood High School in 1932.

She was united in marriage to Bennie M. Hagen on June 2, 1935, in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. Alicia worked for Deluxe Products (now Fleetguard) in Lake Mills for 19 years until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Orvin Julian Bergo on Nov. 11, 1979. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1991. Besides working in Lake Mills, Alicia also helped her husbands on the family farm in rural Northwood.

She enjoyed working outside on the family farm, baking and was known for her brownies, gardening, flowers, making quilts in church, and wintering in Alamo, Texas, but her great love and enjoyment was her family, extended family and grandchildren.

She was a member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church and a church circle.

MASON CITY — Arthur S. “Stan” Johnson, 81, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Stan was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Mason City, the son of Arthur E. and Katie E. (Cawley) Johnson. Stan served with the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1952. He married Dorothy L. Buhr on May 9, 1952, in Mason City. Stan worked as a truck driver for 39 years, retiring in 1987. In 2000, Stan received his diploma from Mason City High School.

Stan was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, IOOF Lodge and Queen Rebekah Lodge. He also had served as a Boy Scout leader of Troop 212, Little League baseball coach and was an avid Mohawk and Hawkeye fan.

Stan is survived by his children, Tom Johnson and wife, Cindy, of Chaska, Minn., Kathy Follmuth and husband, Bob, of Mason City and Mike Johnson and wife, Georgann, of Windsor Heights; grandchildren, Eric Follmuth and friend, Amy Rowe, of Mason City, Carrie Braun and husband, Greg, of Mason City, Kari Follmuth of Mason City, Katy Johnson and friend, Jake Bonneau, of Santa Barbara, Calif., Jessica Sanford and husband, Bryan, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nick Johnson of Chaska, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Emily and Alexander Follmuth, Madison, Paige and Jenna Braun, Cassidy Sanford of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Arlene Berrie of Mason City and Lois Turkal and husband, Frank, of Lancaster, Calif.; numerous very special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Edna Mae Lightbody

THORNTON — Edna Mae Lightbody, 88, of Thornton, died Wednesday (Sept. 20, 2006) at Sheffield Care Center.

Edna Mae was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Thornton to Charles and Minnie (Meyer) Moritz. She attended and graduated from Thornton High School. On Aug. 13, 1936, Edna Mae was united in marriage with George Edward Lightbody at Olivet Methodist Church in Mason City. They raised three sons, Larry, Bennett and Edward.

Edna Mae and George owned City Cafe and George’s Rec, cooked at the Chit Chat and was a clerk at Mabb’s Grocery Store. For many years she drove school bus for the Thornton School District and enjoyed seeing students grow up and having their own families.

She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Thornton and served in the UMW in several different offices.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, raising flowers and playing cards. She found her greatest enjoyment spending time with her family and they include sons, Larry (Judie) Lightbody of Thornton, Edward (Kay) Lightbody of Havelock, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jody (Bart) Pals, Mason City, Kirk (Kathy) Lightbody, Arlington, Texas, Connie (Wes) Smith, Raleigh, N.C., Ray Sandlin, Havelock, N.C., Eric (Susan) Moritz, Morehead City, N.C., Travis (Allison) Moritz, Emerald Isle, N.C., and Sean Lightbody, Emerald Isle, N.C.; 10 great-grandchildren: Katie Pals, Logan Pals, Emily Smith, Hali, Summer and Tray Moritz, Joedy Noell and Bennah Lightbody, Brittany and Amber Sandlin; brother, Irvin (Shirley) Moritz, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; sister, Margie Mikkelsen, West Branch, Iowa; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Steven Merle Aase

NORTHWOOD — Steven Merle Aase, 57, of Northwood, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (Sept. 21, 2006) at his home in Northwood. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will take place at the South Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.

Steven M. Aase was born on March 9, 1949, to Merle and Sally Aase in Albert Lea, Minn. He attended Northwood-Kensett schools and graduated in 1967. Steve lived in Northwood all of his life on the Aase family farm. He loved raising animals and won many awards.

Steve was an honorary member of the FFA. Steve worked at Alliant Energy for 31 years. In addition, he had his longhorn cattle and sawdust business. Steve also loved sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Steve was united in marriage to Sharon Amundson on Aug. 13, 1977, in Northwood. Family was very important to Steve.

Surviving Steve is his wife, Sharon, of Northwood; daughter, Debra McDole, of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Natasha, of Marshalltown; his parents, Merle and Sally Aase, of Northwood; brother, Larry and his wife, Jackie, and their two children, Lauren and Joe, of Port Townsend, Wash.; aunts and uncles, Don and Gloria Hagen of Northwood, Alvin and Janet Anderson of Sun City, Ariz., Shirley Ryan of Albert Lea, Minn., Chet and Sandy Eisenmen of Britt; and many cousins and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Fred and Inga Aase; maternal grandparents, Norval and Grayce Ryan; aunt and uncles, Mic and Dick Mandt and Virgil Ryan.

Steve was a loving husband, father, son, grandparent, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Amy married Donald F. Petersen on Dec. 17, 1939, in Atlantic, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1966. Amy worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 21 years. She retired in 1981. Amy had been a resident of Homestead Assisted Living for the past 4½ years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lydia Church Circle, Cradle Roll Volunteer, Pioneer Telephone and a past member of the Mason City Lioness Club.

Amy is survived by a son, D. Kendall Petersen, and wife, Darlene, of Mason City; daughter, Dianne Hansen, and husband, Lou, of Waukee; grandchildren, Luanne Austin and husband, Mark, Lesley Finn and husband, Shaun, Mark Hansen and wife, Lisa, and Brian Hansen and wife, Rachel; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Louis B. Robison, of Atlantic; sister, Ruby Littleton, of Anita; many nieces and nephews.

Herbert Russell Cassels

LE CENTER, Minn. — Herbert Russell Cassels, 87, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday (Sept. 22, 2006) at Central Health Care Center in Le Center, Minn.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover of the United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton.

Herbert was born on Oct. 11, 1919, in Berthold, N.D. Herbert attended school in North Dakota. He later moved to Thornton, Iowa.

Herbert was united in marriage to Marie E. Thompson in 1943 in Marie’s parents home in Fertile. They made their home in Thornton where he was employed as a farmhand. In 1959, they moved to Clear Lake and he was employed at the Mason City Sugar Beet Plant until it closed. Herbert became employed at the Clear Lake Sanitation Dept. until he retired.

He enjoyed playing cards, dancing at the Surf, especially when Lawrence Welk played. He enjoyed spending time with his children. He was a past member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Herbert is survived by two sons, Donald Cassels and his wife, Dolly, of Altoona, and Delbert Cassels and his wife, Cheryl, of Garner; two daughters, Rose Finke and her husband, Rollie, of Kensington, Minn., and Wanda Eckberg and her husband, Dick, of St. Peter, Minn.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Warren Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Carl Thompson of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

James Norland Medlang

KENSETT — James Norland Medlang, 83, of rural Kensett, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2006) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave., Kensett, with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

James Norland Medlang was born on July 17, 1923, in rural Kensett, the son of Melvin and Mabel (Stadheim) Medlang. He was baptized at his parents’ home in rural Kensett, and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Brookfield Township School No. 7, and graduated from Kensett High School in 1941.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Knutson on Aug. 7, 1949, at the Northwood Lutheran Church.

James farmed all his life in the Kensett area raising Brown Swiss dairy cattle, hogs, sheep, chicken, and horses. James enjoyed collecting different breeds of chickens, and raised several other breeds of animals on his farm.

He enjoyed flowers, trees, old farm machinery, draft horses, which included going to horse shows, traveling both nationally and internationally, and family history and genealogy, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church, and was a former vice president of the church board, was on the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery board for many years, and a national member of the Brown Swiss Cattle Association.
