GENEVIEVE E. OSTBY

KENSETT - Genevieve E. Ostby, 84, of Kensett, died Monday (April 19, 1999) at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. "Sam" Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.

The family of Genevieve E. Ostby has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Genevieve E. Ostby was born on Aug. 12, 1914, the daughter of John and Belle (Haugen) Berge, in rural Kensett. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett.

She attended and received her education in the rural Worth County Schools and graduated from Northwood High School. Being an adept stenographer, she was employed by various businesses. Her first job was with the Farmers State Bank in Joice, then the Agricultural Office (A.S.C.) of Northwood. Later, she was secretary for Boyette's Construction. She was often cashier for Otto's Antique Auctions.

She was united in marriage to Otto Ostby on July 16, 1939, at the Berge home place, rural Kensett.

Genevieve was active in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, teaching Sunday school, being in circle and ladies aid. She also sang alto in the church choir and had been a choir member since her days in junior choir at the age of 10 years until the age of 82.

In spite of all her extra duties, Genevieve was a homemaker. She loved her family and always kept a homey home. Those who knew her well will remember her sense of humor.

When Gen was admitted to the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in 1997, she immediately adjusted to the life in her "Home away from home." This was due to the warm welcome and tender loving care she received there. We count all employees of the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center as honorary pallbearers in absentia.

She enjoyed flowers, music and cooking, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and her church.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Otto Ostby, of Kensett; a son, Paul Ostby and his wife, Charlene, of Richmond, Mich.; a daughter, Janice and her husband, Larry Christensen, of Mason City; two grandchildren, Dennis Ostby and his wife, Rita, and Diane Muglia and her husband, Aldo; one stepgrandchild, Sherri Riniker; five great-grandchildren, Drew Ostby, Lance Ostby, Grant Ostby, Blake Muglia and Lee Muglia; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Steven Jenkins and Ashley Riniker; a sister, Norma Berge, of Kensett; eight sisters-in-law, Connie Berge, Ina LaDouceur, Mildred Bakken, Edythe Stovern, Clarine and husband, Frank Ryan; Frida Ostby, Helen Ostby and Bobbi Ostby; one brother-in-law, Roger Ostby and wife, Naomi; and several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt; two brothers, Ervin and Milton Berge; and two sisters, Iona Bilstad and Jenore Berge.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.
