MASON CITY - Marie H. Bequette, 80, of 1226 North Virginia Ave., died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, Mason City, with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

CHARLES CITY - James Love, 78, of 611 Ninth Ave., died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Family will greet friends at the Hauser Funeral Home an hour prior to the services Friday.

MASON CITY - Hazel F. T. Brown, 87, of 202 25th St. S.W., died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., Mason City, with the Rev. James B. Norem officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will resume on hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

MASON CITY - James "Jim" Eugene Kiefer, 52, of 516 Third St. N.E., died Saturday (April 3, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with the Rev. Galen E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in West Side Cemetery, Marble Rock, with military honors conducted by the Stroud-Gates Post No. 387 of the American Legion, Marble Rock.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.
James "Jim" Eugene Kiefer was born April 14, 1946, in Des Moines, the son of Lewis and Ruth (Boyd) Kiefer.
Jim served in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kan., and was honorably discharged on May 13, 1970, after receiving the National Defense medal for his service.
In 1967 he married Virginia Learn in Charles City. After her death, he was married to Cindy Knapp on June 4, 1983 in Mason City.
Jim loved fishing and ice-fishing and watching the Minnesota Vikings and WWF and WCW wrestling. He also enjoyed Western movies and Native American art.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy (Knapp) Kiefer, Mason City; his mother, Ruth Kiefer, Greene; children, Kevin Kiefer, Charles City, Kimberly Blair and her husband, Darren, Burlington, Bobbi Blanchard, New Hampton, Russell Kiefer, Samsula, Fla., Shawn Rose, Denison, Dale Nelson and his wife, Cynthia, Eagle Grove, Christy Hewitt and her husband, Tom, Mason City, Stefanie Tidemanson and her husband, Troy, St. Ansgar, Ray Stump, Mason City, Michelle Keough and her husband, Jim, Roseville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Virginia.

RUEBEN S. BLOMBERG
MANSON, Iowa -Rueben S. Blomberg, 87, died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at Trinity Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Pomeroy with the Rev. David Benedict officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical Covenant Cemetery, Pomeroy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.
Rueben S. Blomberg was born near Pomeroy, Iowa, on Dec. 26, 1911. He died on Easter Sunday, April 4, while in route from his home to the hospital in Fort Dodge. Rueben was the second of three children born to Charles and Matilda Johansson Blomberg. His sister Elsie, brother Iner, and his parents preceded him in death.
Rueben attended school in Pomeroy where he graduated from high school in 1930. After attending trade school in Des Moines and working various farm-related jobs, he became employed by the Palmer-Pomeroy Telephone Company.
On March 12, 1939, Rueben was married to Mae Anderson after the Sunday Morning worship service at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Pomeroy. The young couple set up residence in an upstairs apartment in Palmer, where Rueben worked for the telephone company and Mae was employed by the bank. A few years later Rueben changed his occupation to carpentry, and he continued in that line of work until his retirement in 1973. His skill and craftsmanship are evident in his wood creations, many of which are now the prized possessions of family and friends.
Rueben and Mae were blessed with two daughters, Janice, Mrs. Robert Dugger, of Manson, and Jeanne, Mrs. Harlan Wittkopf, of Algona. Mae, Jan, Jeanne and their husbands all survive. Also surviving are Rueben's pride and joy, his five grandchildren. They are Rob Dugger, Kris Dugger, Tim Dugger, Justin Wittkopf, and Lynne Wittkopf. Rueben was also blessed with six great-grandchildren that survive.
Rueben was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Pomeroy his entire 87 years. He served the church in many capacities during that time. He and is his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 12, 1999. His greatest love was his family, all three generations of which referred to him affectionately as "Pops."
WILBERT (BILL) CHANDLER HAASE
DALLAS, Texas - Wilbert (Bill) Chandler Hasse, 64, died Saturday (April 3, 1999); he was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Dec. 17, 1934, son of Wilbert Haase Sr. and Mary Catherine Quinn Haase. He spent his youth in Mason City, Iowa, where he excelled in basketball and baseball.
He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force from 1954-59. After the military, he moved back to Mason City where he worked for Herb and George TV. He owned his own TV repair shop before moving to Texas in 1973. While in Texas he continued his career in the communications industry before retiring in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Haase of Dallas; his children, Ken Haase of Broken Arrow, Okla., Daniel Haase of Mason City, Lynn Evans of Jacksonville, N. C., William Haase of Mason City, Kimberly Knight of Madison, Wis., Michele Hill of Deer Park, Texas, SSgt. Robert Haase stationed in Great Falls, Mont.; and stepson, Scott Greene of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters, Sue Helm of Denver, Colo., Pat Whittington of Bedford, Texas, and Sherry Merriss of Kentwood, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and a godchild, Chandler Quinn.
Bill loved bowling, softball, the Minnesota Vikings and the Texas Rangers. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 2232 W. Fifth at Story Road, Irving, Texas, on Wednesday, (April 7).

DUMONT - Russell F. Stockdale, 85, died Monday (April 5, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dumont United Methodist Church, Dumont. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Dumont.
DELORES PORTER
LAKE MILLS - A memorial service for Delores Porter of 906 S. Grant, Lake Mills, Iowa, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. The Rev. Roger Dykstra will officiate.
Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the New Ulm Cemetery in New Ulm, Minn.
There will be no visitation. Memorial service arrangements were completed by Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills.
Delores Ann Porter, daughter of Vernon and Bernice (Swenson) Peterson, was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Winnebago County, Lake Mills.
She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.
In August of 1953 Delores married Elwood Porter at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. To this union one daughter was born, Ann Marie.
Delores graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1949. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1951. She continued her education and graduated from Drake University while teaching at the elementary level in several schools. She retired from teaching in 1995 at New Ulm Public Schools, completing a teaching career of 44 years.
Delores passed away Saturday (April 3, 1999) in rural Hancock County as the result of an auto accident. She was 67.
She is survived by her mother, Bernice Peterson of Lake Mills; three sisters, Verna Helgeson of Lake Mills, Joan and her husband, Ron Hall, of Rochester, Minn., Mary and her husband, Dave Dakken, of Waterville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; her daughter, Ann Marie; her father, Vernon Peterson; and her brother-in-law, Kurtis Helgeson.

SAN MARCOS, Calif.-Robert John Bidwell, 93, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at a local retirement residence.
Robert was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Kearney, Neb.; he lived in San Marcos for 26 years. He was a painter for Eric Lundeen Paint Contractors for 20 years.
He was an active member of the San Marcos Joslyn Senior Center and played on the Joslyn Center Billiard League. He was a member of the Bidwell Family Association and was a commercial artist for LA Printing and Central Printing of Iowa. He was the owner of Sunnyslope Hobby Shop in Sunnyslope, Ariz. He was an artist, showing his paintings at the San Marcos Joslyn Center and was a member of the San Marcos Variety Ensemble.
Mr. Bidwell was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cora Anderson Bidwell, and his brother, Lawrence Bidwell.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Bessie Bidwell of Temecula, Calif.; his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dennis Smith, of Lakeport, Calif.; brothers, Harold Bidwell of Tacoma, Wash., and Alvin Bidwell of Visalia, Calif.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A private inurnment took place at San Marcos Cemetery.
MARTHA "MARTIE" MAE KEMMERER
CLEAR LAKE - Martha "Martie" Mae Kemmerer, 73, died Saturday (April 3, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 6, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.
Memorial services and celebration of her life will be at a later date.
Martha "Martie" Kemmerer was born on Dec. 12, 1925, in Boone, the daughter of Alvin and Henretta (Upton) Erickson. She received her education in the Boone school system, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boone. After completing her education, she worked for several years for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Boone.
She was united in marriage to William Dean Kemmerer on April 14, 1952, in Boone. After their marriage they moved to Clear Lake where she continued to work for several years as a telephone operator for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City. On Nov. 12, 1960, together they purchased Witkes Marine in Clear Lake which they operated for six years as Kemmerer Marine and then owned and operated Kemmerer Marine on Highway. 18.
She enjoyed traveling and helping family and friends, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dean Kemmerer of Clear Lake; two sons, Mark Kemmerer and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake, and Kurtis Kemmerer and his wife, Suzanne, of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Nichole and Christopher Kemmerer, both of Clear Lake; two sisters, Grace Wilhite and her husband, Don, of Moingona and Karen Peterson and her husband, Pete, of Ogden; one brother, Garreth "Bud" Erickson and his wife, Delores, of Denver, Colo.; and other relatives and many friends.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Davis.

Jennifer Marie Craighton was born Sept. 8, 1978, in Britt, Iowa, to Larry Craighton and Deborah Waddell. She was raised in Rockwell and attended Rockwell/Swaledale High School, North Iowa Area Community College and Illinois State University.
Jennifer was a very active member of the Church of Christ in Hampton and Mason City. While attending Rockwell/Swaledale High School, she was a high school cheerleader, a member of the National Honors Society and Who's Who Club. She received the North Iowa Area Community College Hall of Fame Award, belonged to College Who's Who Club, and was a member of the Logos newspaper at NIACC in Advertisement Management. While attending Illinois State University, she was a member and leader of inter- varsity activities, a member of Deaf Club, worked in College Day Care, and participated in Summer Games at Illinois State and Methodist Church Camp. She was active in gymnastics and was certified as a judge at Illinois State.
She is survived by her parents, Larry and Deb Craighton, Rockwell; two brothers, Jason Craighton, Coulter, and Jeremy Craighton, Rockwell; maternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Lyle Waddell, Hampton, and paternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Rex Craighton, Hampton.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal great-grandparents.

KARL E. NANNENGA
OSAGE - Karl E. Nannenga, 55, passed away Sunday (April 4, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Karl was born on Oct. 26, 1943, at Klemme, Iowa, the son of Jacob (Jake) and Bernice (Ball) Nannenga. Karl received his education in the Klemme and Clear Lake school systems. He farmed with his parents at Clear Lake prior to his induction into the U. S. Army (1966-68), where he served with the U. S. Army 82nd Engineer Corps in Vietnam during the TET offensive. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to farm with his parents at Clear Lake and later at Osage.
On Dec. 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary Brewer at the Faith United Church of Christ, Tripoli, Iowa. To this union, Jacqueline Kay was born on June 3, 1974.
Karl enjoyed reading and, with his many friends, hunting and fishing. After farming for approximately 20 years, he pursued a trucking career.
He was a former member of the Mitchell County Dairy Association. He was a member of the Osage American Legion Post No. 278 and the Osage V.F.W. Post No. 7920.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at the family's church of membership, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 830 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery, Little Cedar, Iowa, with military rites at the grave by the Osage V.F.W. Post No.7920 and the Osage American Legion Post No. 278.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today with the family present to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage. Visitation will resume one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.
Karl is survived by his wife, Mary Nannenga of Osage; daughter, Jacqueline, her husband, Mark Hawley, and expected child, of Gilbert, Iowa; his mother, Bernice I. Nannenga of Mason City; one sister Marie L. Nannenga of Mason City; and one brother, Chris(t) Nannenga, his wife, Leila, and their daughter, Elizabeth, of Clear Lake/Thorton area. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

GREENE - Funeral services for Maryon E. Ladwig, 86, of 107 Willow Lawn Drive, Waverly, formerly of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, with Pastor Gene Burry of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of services at the Funeral Chapel.
Maryon Edith Cropley was born May 5, 1912, in Iowa City, a daughter of Edward Irving and Lillie Belle (Grabien) Cropley, and died Saturday (April 3, 1999) at her home in Waverly.
She received her education in the Cedar Rapids Public Schools, graduating from the Old Washington High School in 1930. She attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
On Oct. 3, 1933, she was united in marriage to Dr. Reuben F.Ladwig, who was also attending the University.
They moved to Greene in 1934, where he established a dental-orthodontia practice. Throughout the years she assisted her husband in his practice. Following Dr. Ladwig's retirement in 1966, they moved to Loveland, Colo., where they remained until 1974, when they moved to Waverly. Dr. and Mrs. Ladwig traveled extensively in the United States and Canada, and entertained many organizations with their fine photographs.
Maryon was a former member of the Chapter CC PEO Sisterhood of Greene, and a present member of Chapter ML PEO Sisterhood of Waverly, past member of the Greene Library Board, University Women, and volunteer at the Bremer County Historical Museum in Waverly.
Her interests included bird watching, oil painting, and reading, with an interest in history.
Living family members include a nephew, Jean B. and Helen Cropley, of Scott Depot, W.V., and their son, Dr. Tom and his wife, Cecilia Cropley, of Acton, Mass.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 9, 1994; parents; one brother, George Irving Cropley; and one sister, Catherine A. Cropley, in infancy.

Maxine V. (Norem) Marks was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Forest City, daughter of Howard and Tilla (Osheim) Norem.
She graduated from Forest City High School in 1937 and then attended business school in Minneapolis. She was employed as a bookkeeper and accountant in San Francisco, New York and Minneapolis,

Gladys was born Sept. 15, 1915, at Britt, the daughter of Alex D. and Myrtle E. (Rydson) Anderson. At an early age, they moved to Mason City, where she attended Mason City schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1932.
She was married on Christmas Eve of 1940 to Edgar D. Zea. She enjoyed using her hands-knitting, etc. and watching her granddaughter, Kimberly, riding her Arabian horses and becoming a national champion equestrian.
Gladys was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and an Honorary Member of the Iowa Arabian Horse Association.
She is survived by sons Sherman Zea and his wife, Maxine, of Rockwell, and Robert Zea and his wife, Becky, of Prole; one daughter-in-law, Ruby Zea, of Mason City; grandchildren Kimberly, Susan, Lynette, Debby, Jackie and Tom; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald G. Anderson, of Conway, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel F. Brown was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Chicago, to Axel T. and Tekla C. (Mogran) Wallskog. At a young age, her family moved to Mason City, where she attended and graduated from high school. Hazel worked for Western Union in Mason City.
On May 24, 1934, Hazel married Virgil A. Brown in Mason City. Hazel lived many places over the following years while Virgil served in the U.S. Army.
They returned to Mason City, where she was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Her family includes daughter Sharon L. and her husband, Jay L. Dalgetty, of Kingwood, Texas; granddaughters Christine L. Kimball of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Catherine L. Chesky and husband, Eric, of Rutherford, Calif.; grandson Brian L. Dalgetty and wife, Clare, of Cary, N.C.; great-great-grandchildren David and Kristyn Kimball, Matthew, Mark, Steven and Andrew Delgetty, and Connor Chesky; brothers Lansing Wallskog and wife, Florence, of Mason City, and Albert Wallskog and wife, Elaine, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one sister, Ethel Gage and husband, Howard, of Mason City.

WILBERT 'BILL' CHANDLER HAASE
DALLAS, Texas - Wilbert "Bill" Chandler Haase, died Saturday (April 3, 1999).
He was born in Minneapolis, on Dec. 17, 1924, son of Wilbert Haase Sr. and Mary Catherine Quinn Haase. Bill spent his youth in Mason City, where he excelled in basketball and baseball.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1959. After the military, he moved back to Mason City, where he worked for Herb and George TV. He owned his own TV repair shop before moving to Texas in 1973.
While in Texas, he continued his career in the communications industry before retiring in 1996.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jo Haase, of Dallas; and children, Ken Haase of Broken Arrow, Okla., Daniel Haase of Mason City, Lynn Evans of Jacksonville, N.C., William Haase of Mason City, Kimberly Knight of Madison, Wis., Michele Hill of Deer Park, Texas, SSgt. Robert Haase stationed in Great Falls, Mont.; and stepson, Scott Greene, of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by sisters, Sue Helm of Denver, Colo., Pat Whittington of Bedford, Texas, and Sherry Merriss of Kentwood, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and godchild Chandler Quinn.
Bill loved bowling, softball, the Minnesota Vikings and the Texas Rangers. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. today at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 2232 W. 5th at Story Road, Irving, Texas.

Marie H. Bequette was born March 2, 1919, to Harm and Hilda (Siebrandts) deBuhr, in rural Rockford. Marie graduated from Rockford High School in 1936. Marie worked at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, and then at the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis. She then was called home to care for her father. After he passed away she returned to work at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. She was married to Charles C. Duncan in June of 1949. Marie was active in the community of Bassett, where she lived. Marie then married Orville Bequette on June 13, 1959, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She played an active part in keeping books for Orville's star mail routes. She enjoyed helping at church for Lutheran World Relief. Marie was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, L.W.M.L. She also served on the District Christian Growth Community for five years, and was zone president for four years. She was a member of Naomi Circle and served as treasurer. Marie enjoyed sewing, making baby quilts and taking care of children.
Survivors include one son, Rich Duncan of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Else Uker, of Rudd; one brother, Alfred deBuhr and wife, Gladys, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 1997; six brothers, Herman, Theodore, Gerhardt, John, William and Ben deBuhr; and one sister, Hilda Goodsell. |

MASON CITY - Marie Ellis Overholt, 88, passed away Nov. 19, 1998, at her home in El Monte, Calif. Interment was at Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Marie was born in Suratov, Russia, on Nov. 19, 1910. At an early age she immigrated to the United States with her parents.
She grew up and attended schools in Mason City. After her graduation she moved to California where she made her home.
She married Norval Overholt in Las Vegas on Aug. 17, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1968.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Art (Emma) Becker; and a brother, Harold Ellis and his wife, Helen, all of Mason City, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

The family of Leo Raymond LaDouceur has requested that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, or to the Lutheran Retirement Home, in Northwood, in his memory.
Leo Raymond LaDouceur was born on Aug. 28, 1918, in Belcourt, N.D., the son of Sylvio and Blanche LaDouceur. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Catholic Church in Willow City, N.D.
He attended and received his education in the Willow City school system. At the age of 16, he and his widowed mother moved to Minneapolis, Minn.
In 1939, he was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps, serving overseas during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he operated an oil station in Anoka, Minn. He later traveled throughout the states as a salesman doing antique shows.
He was united in marriage to Ina Berg on April 8, 1980, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett. During the winter months he lived in Arizona, and before leaving Arizona, he became a resident of Springfield Nursing Home.
On March 31, 1998, they returned to their home in Northwood, and on April 14, 1998, he entered the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center and had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood since May 5, 1998.
He enjoyed fishing, music, antiques, singing, playing cards with his friends and planting fruit trees.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, and "Our Buddies" VFW Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ina (Berg) LaDouceur, of Northwood; one sister, Sylvia Monegon and her husband, Adrian, of Rolette, N.D.; one aunt, Alda Plante, of Minot, N.D.; seven nephews and two nieces, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Victor LaDouceur, who died on Sept. 28, 1998. |

Henry was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Risum, Germany, son of Paul and Helen (Christiansen) Nissen. He came to the United States in 1928 and worked as a farmhand until 1938. He then began farming for himself by renting a farm near Manly.
In 1944, he bought a farm north of Clear Lake. He returned to Germany for an extended visit, and while there, married Marie Friedrichsen in 1956. He, his wife and son then returned to the United States. He began farming again and remained a farmer until 1968, when he retired. The family then moved to Clear Lake.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. Henry enjoyed reading and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Clear Lake; and two daughters, Hannah Nissen, Youngstown, Ohio, and Lorian Medina, Spanaway, Wash. He is also survived by one son, Detlef Friedrichsen and his wife, Carol, Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, John Friedrichsen and his wife, Julie, Atlanta, Ga., Nick Friedrichsen and his wife, Jenni, of Des Moines; Melinda Friedrichsen, Clive, Iowa; Wally Medina, Spanaway, Wash.; Angela Medina, Spanaway, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Friedrichsen, Noah Friedrichsen, and Rhyann Friedrichsen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Paul; four brothers and three sisters, all of Germany.

Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Army in December of 1942, serving in the Signal Corps until September 1945.
Bob married Mae Drafahl on May 22, 1943, in Des Moines. Bob and Mae returned to North Iowa in 1971, where he delivered Winnebago motor homes, worked for Guardian Photo and, in recent years, he was the greeter at Target.
Bob's hobbies included reading, shopping and enjoying nature, and he was an avid animal lover.
He was a member of the VFW.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mae Greene, of Mason City; one son, Charles M. Greene, of Mason City; three daughters, Sherry Sauerbry, of Independence, Mo.; Eva Ricaurte and husband, Dr. Eduardo, of Toledo, Ohio; and Christine VerHelst and her fiance, Craig Anderson, of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren, Lori Kilbury and her husband, Mike; Jeff Saurbry; Eric, Emma, Brandon and Andrea Ricaurte; Margie and Megan VerHelst; and Alex Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Brad Kilbury; and his dog, Patcher.

Curt was born Dec. 14, 1942, the son of Helmer and Iva (Fuston) Hanson in Mason City. He spent his childhood years in Clear Lake, where he enjoyed riding his bicycle on which he made several trips across Iowa on RAGBRI.
Curt was very involved in environmental projects and had a tremendous soft spot for the care of animals. He had a passion for sailing, politics and also enjoyed gardening. He was a gentle and kind man who enjoyed being around his friends.
Curt moved to Alaska in 1985 and was later employed by the Alaskan Right of Way as a project technician.
Those thankful for having shared his life include four sisters, June and her husband, Don Johnson, of Clear Lake; Laurel and her husband, Clem O'Rourke, of Mason City; Sylvia Paine, of Dallas; and Maxine and her husband, Bill Worsley, of Waterloo; two brothers, Gary Hanson, of Mason City; and Rodney and his wife, Pat Hanson, of Clinton; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Grant Albert Haugland, the son of Severin and Bertha "Malinda" (Hope) Haugland, was born May 2, 1913, at Crystal Lake. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and received his education at Crystal Lake where he graduated from high school in 1932.
Grant worked for various farmers around Crystal Lake until 1938, when he began working for J.B. Johnson, south of Britt.
On June 21, 1939, he was married to Lois Fern Johnson at the United Methodist Church, in Kanawha. They made their home on a farm south of Britt, where he farmed until retiring in 1981.
Besides farming, Grant also drove school bus for five years, was a hail adjuster for Farm Bureau for 23 years and was a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer for 15 years.
Due to ill health, he moved to the Kanawha Community Nursing Home in 1995.
He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, friends and reading.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his two sons, Ronald Haugland and his wife, Lori; and their children, Nicole and Chad, of Edwards, Colo.; and Larry Haugland and his wife, Carol, and their children, Shanna, Ashley and Jordan, of Eldridge, Iowa; a sister, Sarah Ryerson, of Mankato, Minn.; and two brothers, Lloyd Haugland and his wife, Lydia, of Montgomery, Ala.; and Bjarne Haugland and his wife, Dorothy, of Woden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, on April 2, 1993; his parents; two brothers, Stanley Haugland and an infant brother, Bennett Haugland; and two stepbrothers, Eric and Carl Haugland.

Bob's hobbies included reading, shopping and enjoying nature. He was an avid animal lover.
He was a member of the V.F.W.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mae Greene, of Mason City; one son, Charles M. Greene, of Mason City; three daughters, Sherry Sauerbry, of Independence, Mo., Eve Ricaurte and her husband, Dr. Eduardo, of Toledo, Ohio, and Christine VerHelst and her fiance, Craig Anderson, of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren, Lori Kilbury and her husband, Mike, Jeff Sauerbry, Eric, Emma, Brandon and Andrea Ricaurte, Margie and Megan VerHelst and Alex Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Brad Kilbury; and his dog, Patcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
HENRY NISSEN
CLEAR LAKE - Henry Nissen, 93, of 307 N. 14th St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday (April 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Evangelical Free Church, Highway 18, Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Wiersbe officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of North Iowa and the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake.
Henry was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Risum, Germany, son of Paul and Helen (Christiansen) Nissen. He came to the United States in 1928 and worked as a farmhand until 1938. He then began farming for himself by renting a farm near Manly.
In 1944, he bought a farm north of Clear Lake. He returned to Germany for an extended visit, and while there married Marie Friedrichsen in 1956. He, his wife and son then returned to the United States. He began farming again and remained a farmer until 1968, when he retired. The family then moved to Clear Lake.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. Henry enjoyed reading and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Clear Lake; and two daughters, Hannah Nissen, Youngstown, Ohio, and Lorian Medina, Spanaway, Wash. He is also survived by one son, Detlef Friedrichsen and his wife, Carol, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, John Friedrichsen and his wife, Julie, Atlanta, Ga., Nick Friedrichsen and his wife, Jenni, of Des Moines, Melinda Friedrichsen, Clive, Wally Medina, Spanaway, Wash., and Angela Medina, Spanaway, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Connor Friedrichsen, Sarah Friedrichsen, Noah Friedrichsen and Rhyann Friedrichsen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Paul; and four brothers and three sisters, all of Germany.

CLARION - Lola M. Fisher, 93, died Friday (April 9, 1999) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

ALGONA - Rose M. Courtney, 75, died Thursday (April 8, 1999) at Good Samaritan Center, Algona.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakcrest Funeral Home, Algona. A parish rosary will begin at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home Sunday.

CHARLES CITY - Louise A. (Mrs. Reuben) Witzel, 102, of Salsbury Baptist Home, formerly of 808 N. Iowa St., died Thursday (April 8, 1999) at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert streets, Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton.

MARILYN A. COLLERAN
ROCHESTER, Minn. -Marilyn A. Colleran, 67, of 190 36th Ave. N.W., died Friday (April 9, 1999) at Seasons Hospice, Rochester, after an illness of 16 months.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Macken Colonial Chapel, 1105 Twelfth St. S.E., Rochester, with the Rev. James McCauley officiating.
Friends may call an half hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Marilyn Alice Tierney Colleran was born Sept. 16, 1931, at Mason City, Iowa. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1949.
She graduated from St. Marys School of Nursing, Rochester, in 1952 and worked at St. Marys Hospital as a private duty nurse from 1952 to 1968. Then she became a nursing supervisor at St. Marys Hospital from 1968 until her retirement in 1992.
She married, but later divorced. She enjoyed traveling, quilting and sewing.
Marilyn is survived by her mother and stepfather, Gwen and Winston Whitehead, Phoenix, Ariz.; five daughters, Karen Jensen, Austin, Minn., Sharon Colleran-King, Rochester, Carol Hyter, Mabel, Minn., Colleen Colleran, Rochester, and Kathleen Colleran, Rochester; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.
PAUL F. KASEL
OSAGE - Paul F. Kasel, 66, died Friday (April 9, 1999) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage following a long illness.
Paul was born Aug. 25, 1932, at Adams, Minn., the son of Paul P. and Anna (Bodensteiner) Kasel. He married Darlene Salisbury on June 27, 1962, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minn.
He worked for the Oliver Corporation and White Farm in Charles City for 23 years. Paul was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus and V.F.W., all in Osage. His hobbies were collecting toy tractors and playing with his two grandchildren.
Paul was a heart transplant recipient in 1987, the 14th at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites at the grave by members of Osage V.F.W. Post No. 7920.
Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m.
Paul is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Osage; two daughters, Linda Kasel of Osage and Margaret Dunn and her husband, Roger, of Alta Vista; a son, Robert Kasel of Osage; two grandchildren, Joshua and Sara Dunn of Alta Vista; a special friend, Mary Ann Denekas; five brothers, John Kasel and his wife, Vera, of Osage, William Kasel and his wife, Harriet, of Mason City, Eugene Kasel and his wife, Maryls, of Roscoe, Ill., Daniel Kasel and wife, Barbara, of Taopi, Minn., and Theodore Kasel of Ames; four sisters, Mary Brumm and her husband, John, of Mason City, Joann Krause and her husband, Richard, of Pine Island, Minn., Barbara Kitt and her husband, Dennis, of Denison, and Carol Kasel of Minneapolis, Minn.; and also nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
