Rita Abens

OSAGE - Rita Abens, age 75, of Osage, died Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Rita was born June 14, 1934, in Rutland, the daughter of Forest and Jennie (Johnson) DeGroote. She grew up in the Methodist Church and was active in youth group and 4-H. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1952.
Rita married Howard Abens on Dec. 28, 1954, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode.
Rita worked as a secretary, getting her PHT (Putting Hubby Through College) degree. Her primary occupation was homemaker as she raised four children. She served as office assistant in her husband's chiropractic office during the empty- nest years.
Rita was active after her marriage in the Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher and as a Vacation Bible School teacher and superintendent. She completed the Bethel Bible Series Course and then taught it to other adults. Rita was active in her women's group, the Rachel Circle, at her church and hosted Bible studies in their home.
She had a hobby of knitting dishcloths as well as doing other handiwork, and enjoyed china painting for many years.
Rita and Howard enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and 13 foreign countries, including seven cruises.
Rita is survived by her husband, Dr. Howard Abens of Osage; four children, Peggy (Bob) Appel of Altoona, Patty (Jon) Fredrickson of Jacksonville, Fla., Jim (Kathy) Abens of Eau Claire, Wis., and Stu (Temi) Abens of Waco, Texas; 16 grandchildren, Megan Abens, Christopher Abens, Amy Abens, Joshua Fredrickson, Katelyn Fredrickson, Alana (Micah) Hildreth, Aaron Appel, Daniel Appel, Matthew Abens, Monica Abens, Connor Abens, Grant Abens, Jordan (Justin) Mechell, Seth Stanford, Cody Stanford, Jesse Stanford; two sisters, Marjorie Vance of Humboldt, and Val Williams of Rhinelander, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Douglas and Arvin DeGroote; a sister, Charlotte Schafer; and a grandson, Bobby Appel.

Donald Ray Best

ROCKWELL - Donald Ray Best, age 83, of Rockwell, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday (Oct. 30, 2009).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Rockwell United Methodist Church, 303 Madison St. W., Rockwell, with the Rev. John Scherb officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Donald Best Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Don was born March 28, 1926, on a farm south of Belmond, the son of Ray and Ella (Kurtz) Best. He attended country schools in the Belmond area. Don was baptized at St. John's Episcopal Church and he attended the Rockwell United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 7, 1952, Don was united in marriage to Mary M. Grabbe. From that union, two children were born.
Don was an avid farmer. He enjoyed farming for 70 years. He loved gathering with friends and sharing stories. He also loved John Deere tractors. Most of all, he loved his family.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Best, of Rockwell; a daughter, Diane Cornick, of Waverly; grandchildren, Kiefer, Kaleb and Karissa; sister-in-law, Jo Best, of Clear Lake; two nieces, Kathy Sinnwell and Lori Beatty, both of Mason City; and a nephew, Dennis Dawson of Becker, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale; sisters, Velma and Dorothy; and brother, Roger.

Mary Boozell

CHICAGO, Ill. - Mary Boozell, 43, 24725 Patriot Square Drive, Plainfield, Ill., and formerly of Mason City, died of cancer on Wednesday (Oct. 28, 2009) surrounded by her family in her home.
A memorial Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with Monsignor John Hemann officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 West, Mason City.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Bethel Christian Mission, Box 206055, Louisville, KY 40250 in care of the Hentzel family or the Right to Life and Catholic Charities.
Mary was born Sept. 16, 1966, in Des Moines, the daughter of Vincent and Rosalie Ann (Carmody) Boozell. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1985. She was involved in cheerleading, journalism, dance and freshman basketball.
Mary attended North Iowa Area Community College, then lived and worked in Minnesota for 11 years. She moved to Chicago, where she worked at several firms as an executive assistant and for the past four years at SPSS in downtown Chicago.
Mary was generous with her time and talent, working or donating to charitable organizations including Community Kitchen, the animal shelter, Catholic Charities and Right to Life.
Mary was a ray of sunshine, full of laughter, beautiful eyes, smile and had a wonderful sense of humor. Mary had strong faith in God and true sense of living her faith. During her battle with cancer, to quote her oncologist, "Mary was full of grace".
Mary had many friends. She enjoyed her professional accomplishments, family get-togethers, friends and her cats, Cleo, Sydney and Shey. Mary loved family reunions, white-water rafting, holidays, time with her nieces and nephews, and a fun loving relationship with her brothers, Chris and Matthew, and sister, Katie.
Mary is survived by her parents, Vince and Rosalie Boozell, Mason City; siblings, Christopher (Jeanne) Boozell, Matthew (Lora) Boozell and Katie (Michael) McKee; nine nieces and nephews, Molly and John Vincent Boozell, Leah, Zac and Jeb Boozell, and Megan, Brandon, Nathan and Ryan McKee, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gertrude M. "Gertie" LaMar

MANLY - Gertrude "Gertie" M. LaMar, 88, of Manly, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after a short illness.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway, Manly, with the Rev. David G. Kucera and the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling concelebrating. Inurnment will take place at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, with a rosary taking place at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Gertrude.
Gertrude was born Jan. 24, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Thome) Hemann on the family farm near Stacyville. Gertrude was working in Charles City as a nanny when she met and married Clifford John Hugeback. To this union three children were born. Cliff passed away in August of 1953.
The following year she met Frank Lamar Jr. They were wed Aug. 6, 1955. They moved to Manly where they owned a tavern. After selling the tavern, Gertie then went to work at Winnebago. She then managed and cooked at the Pioneer Country Club before retiring.
Gertie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards, family reunions and life in general. She also volunteered for her church guild and delivered Meals On Wheels.
She is survived by her husband, Frank LaMar; three children, Glenda Hugeback Pecinovsky of Cresco, Gary (Bonnie) Hugeback of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Richard (Alyce) Hugeback of Hampton; grandchildren, Eva Pecinovsky, Kristen (Jon) Nimsger and Justin (Angie) Hugeback; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Ethan Nimsger and Henery Hugeback; and five half-brothers and sisters.
Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff Hugeback; and several half-brothers and sisters.

Mary Pringnitz

BELMOND - Mary Pringnitz, age 96, of Belmond, passed away Monday (Oct. 26, 2009) at the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services for Mary Pringnitz will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday Nov. 2, 2009, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. Pastor James Harbaugh will officiate. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation for Mary Pringnitz will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Mary Pringnitz, the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth Erdman, was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Maywood, Ill. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Maywood, Ill., and confirmed in the Cuba Church north of Kanawha. She attended rural school in the Kanawha and Belmond area.
Mary was united in marriage to Arthur Pringnitz on Jan. 27, 1937, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple worked closely together on the farm until 1975, when they retired and moved to Belmond. Mary and Art were always very proud to speak of their farming operation, but most of all of the adoption of their daughter, Karen.
Art and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending winter months in Mesa, Ariz. They also enjoyed very much visiting Ohio to see their daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Phil, grandson and great grandchildren. Mary's family is built upon many memories.
Mary was a great cook. She very much enjoyed sharing time with family and friends over a cup of coffee. Playing cards, gardening and flowers were just a few of her many passions. Mary was a faithful member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond.
Left to cherish Mary's memory is her daughter, Karen Rooney and husband, Phil, of Hamilton, Ohio; grandson, Jeffrey Rooney of Hamilton, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Megan and Madelyn of Hamilton, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Elizabeth Erdman; husband, Art; brother, Harold "Sonny" Erdman; and sisters, Mollie Kalkwarf, Hilda Lee, Minnie Johnson, Betty Faulkner and Ann Pierce.

CHARLES CITY - Lori Regenold, 54, of Charles City, died Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, of a massive heart attack.

Frank E. Weber

CORWITH - Frank E. Weber, 83, of Corwith passed away on Saturday, (Oct. 31, 2009) at his home.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley.

Family and friends may greet the family one hour before the church service.

Frank was born April 1, 1926, to Henry and Pearl (Walters) Weber in Algona. He graduated from Corwith High School.

Frank married Pauline Neuroth on Nov. 14, 1944, in Ocean Side, Calif. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, participating in two invasions during World War II, and served in the occupation of China following the war. He was a life-long farmer and also worked as a Winnebago delivery driver.

Frank was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith for 55 years until its closing in 2002. He then became a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley. He was a 63-year member of the American Legion.

Frank enjoyed baseball, watching Western movies and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Frank's honor to the National Honor Flight or the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; children, Cynthia (Roger) McBride of Rudd, Jean (Rick) Kendall of McCook, Neb., Connie (Gary) Noah of Des Moines, David (Judy) Weber of Corwith, and Linda (Terry) McLaughlin of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren: Julie, Jennifer, Nicole, Matthew, Michael, Jana, Bryan, Emily, Sarah, Zachary, Elise, Garrett, and Connor; 13 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn (Maynard) Woodbury of Whispering Pines, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl Weber, and an infant daughter, Julie Kay Weber.

DECORAH - Lillian O. Bolz, 94, of Decorah, died Sunday (Nov. 1, 2009) at the Aase Haugen Home of Decorah.

Bruce W. Brinkman

CARROLL - Bruce Brinkman, 58, of Carroll died early Sunday (Nov. 1, 2009) at his residence following a 4-year battle with cancer.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. A rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, by St. Lawrence Parish.

Mr. Brinkman was born on Oct. 1, 1951, at Mason City, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Alice (Meyer) Brinkman. He graduated from Klemme High School and then received a two- year degree at Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove, where he played basketball. He then graduated from Wayne State University in Wayne, Neb., where he played football and participated in Golden Gloves.

He then taught and coached at Bancroft, Neb., where he met his wife, Jeanette Kahnke. They were married on June 14, 1975, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence, S.D. The couple moved to Iowa in 1978 where he taught and coached at Sheffield-Chapin High School for four years.

He then became an insurance salesman and manager for Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Garner.

The family moved to Carroll in 1990 where Bruce worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and later for Auto Owners Insurance. He also coached football at Glidden-Ralston High School and taught and coached at Carroll High School.

He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Knights of Columbus, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Carroll Booster Club and several professional insurance organizations.

Bruce was an avid fisherman and hunter. He made yearly fishing trips to Canada and hunted in South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Carolina and Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Brinkman of Carroll; his sons, Brian Brinkman and his wife Karman of Fairmont, Minn., Nick Brinkman and his wife Amanda of St. Paul Park, Minn., and Baron Brinkman of Carroll; three granddaughters, Kally, Karly, and Madison Brinkman; his mother, Alice Brinkman, of Klemme; sister, Renee Kramer and her husband Ron of Iowa City; brother, Perry Brinkman and his fianc�e Carol Main of Klemme; his mother-in-law, Delores Kahnke of Florence, S.D.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Rose Kahnke of Florence, S.D., Jerri and Alan Rogers of Brookings, S.D., Donna and David Goeman of Glen Burnie, Md., Georgia Kahnke of Florence, S.D., and Cindy Heald of Sioux Falls, S.D., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Brinkman; his father-in-law, Lawrence Kahnke; and brothers-in-law, James and Charles Kahnke.

Viola Mae Fisk

MASON CITY -Viola Mae Fisk, 80, of Mason City died Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Viola was born April 25, 1929, in Mason City, the third of eight children to Fred and Irene Stockberger. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1947 and then married James R. "Bob' Kilfoil. They went on to have five children, Karen, Linda, Michael, Nancy and Jane. In 1969, she married Ernest Godfredsen and in 1982 married LeRoy Fisk.

Viola worked at CoMo Photo, then Guardian Photo, for many years. Her photography hobby amused and sometimes annoyed her family as she believed in remembering every family event, and non-event, with pictures - lots of pictures!

Viola felt that family was the most important thing; she enjoyed spending time with the family members who lived close and traveling to visit the ones who were far away.

Viola was always a bird lover. She took pride in her home and garden and kept a journal of all the birds she attracted. She was an active volunteer in her children's activities through the years.

A favorite hobby in her later years was sewing and she took pleasure in making many beautiful dolls and stuffed animals.

At Christmas she always baked dozens of cookies and shared them with everyone who came to visit.

She was an avid walker and loved combining her daily walk with visiting her circle of friends at the mall. She was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Viola is survived by her children: Karen (John) Oelkers of Mason City, Linda (Tim) Gardner of Helena, Mont., Michael (Carolyn) Kilfoil of Vancouver, Wash., Nancy (Marlen) Stricker of Clear Lake, Jane (Michael) Peach of Sedona, Ariz.; stepchildren, Georgia Hackleman, Glennis Stroeh, Donna Monson, David Godfredsen, Nancy Hoffbauer, Gary Fisk; grandchildren, Loretta and Chris Oelkers, Travis Tonn and Sam Gardner, Match and Ezra Kilfoil, Derek and Sara Stricker, Zachary Peach, Tiffany and Steffanie Fisk, Ryan Hackleman, Jason Stroeh; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Lakotah, Yonatan, Mirabella, Elijah, Cooper, Ashley, Alex and Aiden; sister, Winifred Rasmussen; and brother, George Stockberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, twin brothers in infancy; brother, Lloyd Stockberger; two sisters, Ellen Weiss and Betty Clark; and niece, Caroline Dyer.

She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Luella C. Halverson

MASON CITY -Luella C. Halverson, 82, of Mason City died Sunday (Nov. 1, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kent Mechler, chaplain of Good Shepherd Health Center, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Luella was born July 16, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Arthur O. and Evelyn (Stressel) Johnson. She attended school in Chicago. Luella married Ralph E. Halverson Nov. 13, 1948, in Chicago.

They moved to Mason City in 1949. Luella received nurses aid training at Mercy Hospital and went on to work for Mercy Hospital, Park Hospital and Americana Care Center. She was an active member of the YMCA and a member of Stepping Forward.

Luella is survived by her children, Michael E. (Paula) Halverson of Mason City, Mark S. (Karolyn) Halverson of Mason City and Lori M. (Bryan) Budd of Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Douglas, Erik, Steve and his wife Mindy, Jaime, Brad, Jennifer and Daniel, and three great-grandchildren, Caden, Braylie, and Mikayla.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents and husband in 1983.

Synnova Arlene Hoffman

LAKE MILLS - Synnova Arlene Hoffman, 91, of Lake Mills, formerly of Fertile, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) at her home in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile with Pastor Clarence Baalson officiating.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Fertile Lutheran Church or Beaver Creek Cemetery Society.
Synnova Arlene Hoffman was born March 3, 1918, to Oscar and Ida Amanda (Tweed) Amundson on a farm near Joice. She attended Valley Country School through eighth grade, attended Joice High School one year and then transferred to Fertile Consolidated High School where she graduated.
She was baptized and confirmed at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Joice. On March 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Hoffman at Beaver Creek Church.
Synnova was employed as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital and Park Hospital, both in Mason City and as a cook and waitress at the Holiday Grill in Lake Mills, Emmons Caf�, Fertile Creamery and Fertile Senior Citizens Center. She also devoted her time caring for family and friends that were ill or elderly.
She was an active member of Beaver Creek Lutheran Church until its closing in 2000, serving on the Ladies Aid, Beaver Creek Mission Circle, church council secretary/treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher. After the closing of Beaver Creek, she became a member of Fertile Lutheran Church and was a member of their mission circle. She also served as a 4-H leader for many years.
Her hobbies included baking, gardening, flowers, embroidery and playing cards and games. She and her husband also enjoyed camping and fishing. Family was very important to Synnova and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Synnova is survived by her children, Loren (Shari) Hoffman of Fertile, Sharon (Tom) Hewett of Flower Mound, Texas, and Jerry (Marilyn) Hoffman of Lake Mills. Grandchildren, Justine (Matt) Moore of Fort Dodge, Scott Reineke of Galena, Ill., Lornea (Kyle) Baumann of Savannah, Texas, Dustin Hoffman of Waterloo, Keegan (Melinda) Hoffman of Mason City, Todd (Jackie) Hewett of Flower Mound, Texas, Sheila (Brian) Theune of Southern Pines, N.C., Michele (Jeff) Kelso of Clear Lake, Kristen (Juan) Sierra of Traer, Travis Hoffman of Lake Mills; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Amundson of Fort Dodge, three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1988; infant daughter, Darlene; infant grandson, Timothy; her parents, two brothers, Orvis and Leon Amundson; a sister, Faye Albers and a brother-in-law, Merle Albers.

Paul E. Martin

MASON CITY - Paul E. Martin, 83, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Park at a later date.

Paul was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Mason City, Iowa, to Cecil (Ulsted) and Melvin Martin. He attended Mason City Schools and graduated with the class of 1944. He then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific where he earned four campaign ribbons and three bronze stars.

After being discharged honorably in June of 1946, he returned to Mason City to attend Hamilton Business College. After graduating in April of 1949 he started his career with Iowa Kemper Insurance Company, retiring in April of 1986 after 36 years.

Paul enjoyed meeting his friends for morning coffee get-togethers and he loved golfing with his friend. He was a member of the VFW and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Paul is survived by two daughters, Candyce and husband Charles Stephenson of Mason City, and Paula and husband Mike Wells of Detroit, Mich.; one son, Scott and wife Tracey Martin of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Marilyn and husband Ken Isben of Cypress, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

David Paul Palmer

NEW HAVEN - David Paul Palmer, 42, formerly of New Haven, died unexpectedly on Thursday (Sept. 10, 2009) at his home in Fort McDowell, Ariz.

A celebration of David's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Fellowship will follow in the church basement.

David was born June 6, 1967, in Osage to Mary E. (Simmons) Palmer Fox and Paul E. Palmer. He attended Sacred Heart School and Osage Middle School and finished his education in Scottsdale. David spent most of his working years in the landscape business in Arizona.

He married Liddy Dorchester on Dec. 10, 2002, in Arizona. They lived in Osage for two years and then returned to Arizona. His life was centered on his family and friends, especially his daughter, Stormy. He will be remembered as a kind and giving dad, husband, son and brother. David was a talented artist. He loved to go fishing. He also enjoyed cooking for family and friends and playing cards.

David is survived by his wife, Liddy, of Fort McDowell, Ariz.; his daughter, Stormy, and her mother, Deb of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his mother, Mary Fox of Osage; his father, Paul Palmer of Sun City, Ariz,; sisters, Paige (John) Ziemer of North St. Paul, Minn., and Nikki Thome of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Jason Palmer of Osage; step-sister, Tiffany Palmer of Red Oak, and children, Tori, Remington and Mattie; step-children, Christopher, Bobby Jo, Alexandra, Sunshine and Jazmine, all of Fort McDowell, Ariz.; and his nieces, Megan Thome and Claire Pasch.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Nathan, and his grandparents, Ralph and Bertha Simmons and James and Zelma Palmer.

Joseph M. Palmieri

MASON CITY -Joseph M. Palmieri, 57, of Mason City died Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Joseph Michael Palmieri was born July 2, 1952, in Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Anthony and Mary (Crowley) Palmieri. He attended school in Mason City and graduated in 1970. He attended NIACC where he received a degree in ag power mechanics and also design drafting.
He was married to Ezme Cunningham at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 11, 1983. He worked for IMI Cornelius for 15 years as a draftsman, he then went to work for IMT in Garner as a draftsman for five years until going to work for Veenstra & Kim as a design drafter.
In his free time, he enjoyed being a chauffeur for Odyssey Limousine. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching all sporting events. Joe was an active volunteer and could always be found at his children's many activities through the years.
Joe had a big heart and was always happy to help. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 25 years where he served as an usher. Joe loved being around his friends and especially his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe is survived by his wife, Ezme, of Mason City; children, Elizabeth Smith and husband, Trevor, Paige Peyton, Michael Palmieri and Sarah Palmieri; a grandson, Jamie Andren; brothers, Stan Francisco and partner, Brian Stemen, Ron Francisco; an aunt, Evelyn Treece; niece and nephews, Tara Francisco, Brent Thomas and Emily Smith.

BELMOND - Cleona M. Tegland, 94, died Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Cleona Marie Leonard, the daughter of Arthur Wallas and Erma Irene (Meacham) Leonard, was born on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Belmond, on Oct. 15, 1915. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Clarion. She attended Plum Grove Township Country School and then graduated from Belmond High School in 1932 at the age of 16 years old. Following her education she taught rural school for several years.

Cleona was united in marriage to Leslie Aaron Tegland on Feb. 28, 1937. Following their marriage the couple farmed and raised their family in the Belmond and Clarion areas and had also farmed near Burchinal for three years. Cleona assisted with the farming duties for many years. Cleona and Leslie were later divorced.

Cleona eventually lived for 19 years at Lake Cornelia before moving to Belmond, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Cleona's greatest joy came from the times she spent with her children and grandchildren. Whether it was a family gathering, special event or just time spent visiting, she truly cherished each and every opportunity to be in their presence.

Cleona loved old-time music, ballroom dancing and square dancing. She looked forward to outings to area dances and enjoyed going to the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.

Cleona was a very proficient seamstress and loved to make hand-crafted items including quilts for family and those in need. She loved to visit with friends and loved the companionship of her poodles, Howard and more recently Dolly over the years. Cleona loved the outdoors, planting trees, and raising beautiful flowers.

She had been active over the years in the P.N.G. Club, The Birthday Club, and various coffee groups, Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had also belonged to the Esther Circle, Social Hour Club and to various other groups.

Her memory will live on in the lives of her surviving daughters: Gael Olson of Cascade, Iowa, Thelma Lindvall of Clarion and Erin Henry of Eagle Grove; her grandchildren and their families, Lynn (Matt) Zabel and their children, Jade, Katelyn and Seth; Janet (Tim) Miller and Aiden; Bryce Henry; Kathi (Paul) Ryan and their sons Joe and Nick; Jenni, Kendall and Alex Graham; Sara Davis, Curt and Tony Davis; Tom (Holly) Olson; Dana Lindvall (Mark Southard); Jayne (Gary) Miller, Brenda Lindvall; Peggy (Jason) Schleutenhofer and their children, Emma and Calvin; also her sister, Arlene (Don) Allen of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arthur Wallas Leonard Jr.; two sisters, Lova Mc Alpine and Icle Severson; and a great -grandson, Nick Shaw.

Her memory will live on in the lives of her surviving daughters: Gael Olson of Cascade, Iowa, Thelma Lindvall of Clarion and Erin Henry of Eagle Grove; her grandchildren and their families, Lynn (Matt) Zabel and their children, Jade, Katelyn and Seth; Janet (Tim) Miller and Aiden; Bryce Henry; Kathi (Paul) Ryan and their sons Joe and Nick; Jenni, Kendall and Alex Graham; Sara Davis, Curt and Tony Davis; Tom (Holly) Olson; Dana Lindvall (Mark Southard); Jayne (Gary) Miller, Brenda Lindvall; Peggy (Jason) Schleutenhofer and their children, Emma and Calvin; also her sister, Arlene (Don) Allen of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arthur Wallas Leonard Jr.; two sisters, Lova Mc Alpine and Icle Severson; and a great -grandson, Nick Shaw.
