Cemetery.
Visitation
will be
from 4
to 7
p.m.
today at
the

Funeral
Home in
St.
Ansgar.
Allen
was born
April
25,
1926, to
George
and
Arminda
(Rappath)
Borchert,
in the
same
house
his
father
and all
of his
father’s
family
was born
in, in
Union
Township,
rural
Grafton.
His
grandparents
were one
of the
first
three
settlers
in Union
Township
in 1871.
He was
baptized
and
confirmed
at
Emmanuel
Lutheran
Church,
Grafton.
He
attended
Union
No. 1
Country
School
which
was
located
on the
family
farm
east of
Grafton.
He was
proud of
the fact
that he
completed
his
elementary
education
in seven
years.
As was
the
custom,
he then
took a
year off
of
public
school
to
attend
parochial
instruction
at the
Emmanuel
Lutheran
Church
in
Grafton.
He
graduated
from
Grafton
High
School
in 1943.
His love
for
sports
developed
early.
At the
age of
13, he
was
asked to
play
baseball
on the
high
school
team,
standing
in for
an
injured
player.
He
continued
to play
throughout
high
school
and
following
graduation
played
on
several
local
independent
baseball
teams.
His love
of
sports
continued
on and
he
became
involved
with the
local
high
school
teams as
a
scorekeeper
for many
years.
As a
hobby,
later in
his life
he
compiled
albums
of local
baseball
history
dating
back
from the
late
1800s to
the
present.
He was
fond of
Yogi
Berra’s
humor
and wit.
He
worked
on the
family
farm
following
high
school
and then
began a
career
in
carpentry
which
spanned
more
than 50
years.
Initially,
he began
working
with new
house
construction
and
remodeling,
and
later
specialized
in
interior
work,
such as
cabinetry
and
ceramic
tile and
formica
installation.
He was
very
meticulous
in his
work and
had no
tolerance
for poor
workmanship.
He was
very
proud of
his
craftmanship,
teaching
many
young
people
the art
of the
industry
and
admired
the
skilled
workmanship
of
others.
He
remained
on the
family
farm
until it
was
necessary
for him
to enter
the Good
Samaritan
Center
three
years
ago. He
took
much
pride in
the fact
that he
was the
third
generation
to live
on the
farm and
spent
much
effort
in
keeping
it in
excellent
condition.
He
enjoyed
hunting
and
trapping,
antiques
and
especially
the
family
dogs
throughout
the
years.
He will
be
remembered
by his
family
for his
dry
sense of
humor,
his love
of
visiting
with
family
and
friends
and for
his
determination
to never
give up
or quit
trying
... no
matter
how
difficult
the
circumstances.
Allen
was
preceded
in death
by his
parents
and one
brother,
Warren
Borchert.
He is
survived

Steven K. ‘Tabes’ Parcher
ROCKFORD — Steven K. “Tabes” Parcher, 56, of 208 Seventh St. N.E. in Rockford, died suddenly Monday morning (Oct. 10, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave. in Rockford, with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. Interment will follow the service in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave. in Rockford. The visitation will continue at the church, one hour prior to Steven’s service on Thursday.
Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the Steven K. Parcher Memorial Fund.
Thoughts, stories and condolences may be e-mailed to the family on the www.fullertonfh.com Web site.
Steven Kent Parcher was born on Nov. 10, 1948, to Donald V. and Beth E. (Emery) Parcher, the fifth of eight children. Steven entered the world a bit unexpectedly in a car between Rockford and Charles City as his parents were traveling to the hospital for his arrival. Don and Beth’s new car had broken down enroute to the hospital, prompting them to catch a ride with a young man kind enough to stop and help.
Steven was a sweet little boy, baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. He attended the Rudd, Rockford and Marble Rock community schools and during his youth, looked forward to going to movies on Sunday nights and spending time with his family and friends.
“Tabes,” as he was lovingly known by his relatives and friends, began his semi-driving career following high school, hauling grain for a farmer. He continued to drive throughout his adult years, most currently for Warren Transportation in Waterloo. Tabes would transport machinery mostly to the southern states and lived in Mexico, just across the border from Laredo, Texas. He thoroughly enjoyed driving the semi and was saddened when his health no longer permitted him to work.
Some of Tabes’ leisure activities and interests included listening to country music, fishing, especially in Arkansas, setting off fireworks at Fourth of July family gatherings and assisting with the fireworks displays for a few years in Clear Lake.
Tabes’ family recalls that he had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to play many a practical joke. He particularly loved eating his mother’s home-cooked meals, especially her fried chicken and strawberry shortcake.
Steven will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Donald Parcher of Rockford and Beth Parcher of Mason City; his two sisters, Bonnie (D.J. Carpenter) Caspers of Rockwell and Janet (Lyle) Winter of Letts, Iowa; his two brothers, Larry (Jeannie) Parcher of Rudd and Ronald Parcher of Rockford. He will also be a cherished memory of numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceding Steven in death are his grandparents; his sister, Linda O’Rourke; his two brothers, Michael and Nicholas Parcher; his two nieces, Amy O’Rourke and Sarah Jo Parcher; and his brother-in-law, Jack Caspers.
