RICEVILLE - Funeral services for William F. Brownlow of Riceville were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville. Interment was held in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville handled the arrangements.

William, 70, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.



Marvin Soukup, Sr., 85

SPILLVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Marvin J. Soukup of rural Spillville was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Doris Thompson was organist and Dan Silhacek was soloist. The St. Wenceslaus Choir sang "Here I am, Lord", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Peace is Flowing Like a River", "Goin' Home", "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory." Lector was Shelby White. Mass servers were John Pope, Casey and Kaylee Ollendieck. Eucharistic minister was Betty Soukup. Offertory giftbearers were Heather Barbee, Shelby White, Heidi Beals, Melody Olllendieck and Melissa Elsbernd. Pallbearers were Marvin's grandsons: Scott Pope, Adam Hesse, Ben Hesse, Ryan Soukup, Michael Soukup, Kyle Soukup and Zach Soukup. Interment was held in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Cemetery in Spillville.

Marvin, 85, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at his home.

Marvin Joseph Soukup was born July 22, 1927, in rural Spillville, Iowa, the son of Carl and Regina (Woldan) Soukup. Marvin attended country grade school and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville.

On Oct. 24, 1949, he married Marcella Phillips at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Farming was his lifelong ambition. Marvin measured land and served as an ASCS committeeman for 28 years. He also was a Farm Bureau director.

Marvin was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, where he served as Lector, Eucharistic minister, Parish Council and Holy Name officer. Marvin enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, playing cards, bus trips, visiting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan.

Marvin is survived by his wife: Marcella Soukup of Spillville; three daughters: Connie Arens of Cedar Rapids, Joni (John) Kubesh of Peosta, Iowa and Janice (Russ) Turner of Oelwein; three sons: Marvin, Jr. (Mary) Soukup of Calmar, Dale (Deb) Soukup of Marion and Douglas (Betty) Soukup of Calmar; grandchildren: Scott (Angie) Pope, Penny (Greg) Mara, Heather (Tom) Barbee, Shelby (Brian) White, Heidi (Josh) Beals, Adam Hesse, Ben (Beth) Hesse, Ryan Soukup, Melody (Kirk) Ollendieck, Jenny (Jared) Zeutenhorst, Amy Soukup, Ashley Soukup, Melissa (Reid) Elsbernd, Michael Soukup, Kyle Soukup, Zach Soukup; and 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; one brother: James Soukup of Decorah; and one brother-in-law: Bernard (Lois) Phillips of Calmar.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law: Jerome and Julia (Frana) Phillips; and one sister-in-law: Mary Soukup.


Ramona Swenson, 83

HARMONY, MN - Memorial services for Ramona E. Swenson of Harmony, Minn. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Saetersdal Lutheran Church, rural York Township with Pastor Maureen Hagen officiating.

Ramona, 83, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Unity Hospital, Fridley, Minn.

Ramona Elise Swenson was born June 11, 1929, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Marguerite (Seekatz) Radechel. She was baptized in Big Springs Lutheran Church, rural Harmony and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. She went to country school and then was a graduate of Cresco High School in 1947. She worked as a waitress at Elms Cafe and at National Cash Dime Store. After high school she worked as a secretary in the high school, and as a clerk and bookkeeper at Goodyear Service Store all in Cresco. She also worked a short time at Heco in Harmony.

On June 27, 1950 she married Stanley Swenson in Cresco. They farmed on a farm near Fountain then in York Township for 34 years, during this time raising their family. They retired on an acreage then moved to Harmony, Minn. in 2000.

Ramona prided herself in being a "farmer's wife." She enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, painting scenes, refinishing furniture, flower gardens, collecting glassware and dishes. She loved cats and had a special fondness for Elvis. She held offices in Ladies Aid at Saetersdal and taught Sunday school and bible study. She also participated in VFW Auxiliary.

Ramona is survived by three daughters: Laura (Dave) Lynch of Waucoma, Iowa, Deb Swenson of Harmony, and Kari (Steve) Schroeder of Harmony; one son: Mark (Jean) Swenson of Ramsey, Minn.: 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 2001; a son: Carlton; granddaughter: Angela.; her parents; and a brother: Cyrrel.


LeRoy F. Baethke, 88

CRESCO - Funeral services for LeRoy F. Baethke were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at the Orleans Lutheran Church in rural Cresco. Interment was held in Orleans Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Creco handled the arrangements.

LeRoy, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Cresco Care Center.

LeRoy Frank Baethke was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Guernsey, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Marie (Timm) Baethke. He served in the U.S. Army for two years as a prison guard in Japan.

He married Marie Craft in 1945. They had six daughters and farmed together for many happy years until 1989 when they moved to Cresco. LeRoy and Marie recently celebrated their 67th anniversary.

Over the years, his favorite pastime was playing cards with his friends and family. As a longtime member of the Orleans Lutheran Church, he served on the Council for many years and as President. He was also very active in the VFW, serving as commander of the Cresco Post. He enjoyed walking in the parades and serving turkey dinners and pancake breakfasts with his fellow veterans. Farming was a passion for LeRoy. After he entered the Cresco Care Center, he always wished he could get back to the farm. He enjoyed watching Marie cook and even helped once in a while by cooking steaks on the grill or baking some cookies.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Marie; his daughters: Linda (Mike) Ragland of Ridgeway, Karen (Dale) Gesell of Ridgeway, Marsha of Cresco and Amy (John Hove) of Cresco; son-in-law: Tim Fuller of Vacaville, Calif.; a sister: Verda Rucker of Decorah; grandchildren: Elizabeth Sumner, Joe (Candi) Fuller, Amber (Brad) Seaton, Corey and Josh Gesell, Michelle (Chris) Daniels, Martha, and Matt Ragland; great-children: Emily, Christian, Brighton, Carter, Cale, Sam, and one on the way; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughters: Elaine Baethke and Lois Fuller; his parents; his brother: Harold; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and a nephew: Gordon Baethke.



Mary Jane McCabe, 88

MABEL, MN - Funeral services for Mary Jane McCabe of Mabel, Minn. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel, Minn. with Father Shawn Haremza officiating. Interment will be held in the Mabel Public Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.

Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is handling the arrangements.

Mary Jane, 88, died unexpectedly Monday, December 3, 2012.

Mary Jane McCabe was born May 9, 1924, in Ridgeway, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (McCormick) McConnell. She attended country school and Cresco High School.

On January 10, 1942, she married Leonard McCabe in Bluffton, Iowa. They farmed in the Coldwater area for a short time before moving to the Amherst area and then Mabel area where she helped with the chores and milking the cows by hand. In 1966 they moved into Mabel. She worked at Control Data in Spring Grove and Rush Products in Rushford, and then at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel for 24 years as a Nurses Aid.

She was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel. She enjoyed keeping up on current events through the newspaper, watching and listening to sporting events, crocheting, knitting, and most of all visiting with family and friends.

Mary Jane is survived by seven children: Darrell (Doris) of Lanesboro, Dennis (Cindi) of Roland, Iowa, Loren (Barb) of Mabel, Mark (Gloria Moen) of Harmony, Dave (Sonia) of Chatfield, Marcia (Richard) Larson of Mabel, and Susie (Gary) Morken of Mabel; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother: Francis McConnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard on May 19, 1986; four brothers: Edward, Lucian, Roger, and Jimmy; and two grandchildren: Nicki Majerus and Rick Larson.

Austin Blomgren, 76

SPILLVILLE - Funeral services for Austin A. Blomgren of Grundy Center were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Interment was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.

Austin, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Austin A. Blomgren was born April 1, 1936, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Nellie (Roper) Blomgren. He worked various jobs throughout his life but he worked mainly as a farm hand in Grundy County.

Austin married Wilma Frana at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and the couple later divorced. On August 14, 1993, Austin married Adelia Menuey. They made their home in Grundy Center.

Austin was a member of the Waterloo Collectors Club. He enjoyed tractor rides, John Deere Tractors, 2-Cylinder tractors and restoring them with his son Dwight.

He is survived by his wife Adelia Menuey-Blomgren of Grundy Center; sons: Dwight (Kristine) Blomgren of Marshalltown and David Blomgren of Waterloo; sisters: Luwain Gaul and Elaine Gaul, both of Cresco; half-sisters: Benita (Bill) Carney of Iowa City, Peggy (Carl) Wentworth of Evansdale; and step-sisters: Jean Iben of Boone and JoAnne Stockdale of Ridgeway.

Austin was preceded in death by a daughter: Debra Blomgren; sons: Austin Jr. and Mitchell in infancy; his parents; sister: Grace Roche; step-sisters: Karen Salisbury, Connie Smith and Val Eiffler.

Cletus Weidow, 80

RIDGEWAY - Funeral services for Cletus L. "Bapa" Weidow of Ridgeway will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway with Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Judy Hovden will be the organist. Congregational hymns are: "Amazing Grace", "Rock of Ages", "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers are: Ryan Dahl, Lance Dahle, Warren Fretheim, Steve Haugen, Jerald Henderson and Alan Peter. Interment will be held in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ridgeway.

Friends were to call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Cletus, 80, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Cresco Care Center in Cresco following a long illness.

Cletus Lyle Weidow was born Sept. 7, 1932, at home on the farm in Sumner Township, the son of William and Aldyce (Anderson) Weidow. He was baptized and confirmed at Lincoln Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Ridgeway High School with the class of 1950.

On April 10, 1965, he married Karen G. Larson at Madison Lutheran Church.

Cletus worked on the family farm with his parents in his younger years. Then he worked at the ASC office in Decorah. He drove truck, hauling livestock, and worked at the Winneshiek Coop in Ridgeway for over 30 years. He played in the Midnight Ramblers' Band in the 1950s and 60s.

Cletus was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. He enjoyed playing cards with the guys on Mondays in Ridgeway. He loved to help Kevin and Corey on the farm, doing chores and "supervising" their work, watching sports on TV and spending time with his granddaughter, Kristen. Cletus taught Kristen how to ride her first bike without training wheels. He loved to play canasta with Kathy, Richard and Kristen.

Cletus is survived by his three children: Kevin (Michelle) Weidow of Ridgeway, Kathy (Richard) Dahl of Burr Oak and Corey Weidow of Ridgeway; his granddaughter: Kristen Dahl of Burr Oak; three step-grandchildren: Ryan (Renae) Dahl of Cresco, Shelley (David) Flack of Belle Plaine, Iowa and Kyler Kostohryz of Decorah; and two step-great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Kvam and Logan Flack of Belle Plaine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen on Nov. 29, 2006; and by his parents; and grandparents.

Rita Guthart, 85

GREENE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita M. Guthart of Greene was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene with Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Lector was Kathie Peters, mass servers were Maria and Isabelle Derdzinski, and giftbearers were Becky Poe, Jacque Poe, Brandan Poe, Connor Poe and Connie Poe. Pallbearers were Dale Poe, Seth Poe, Dean Bergman, Joe Thraenert, Mike Gansen ad Rich Backer. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Venz, Rick Sadler, Rich Hansen, Dennis Edwards and Don Daiker. Interment was held in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia.

Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home, Nashua. Visitation continued 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.

Rita, 85, died Thursday morning, Dec. 6, 2012 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Rita Marie Guthart was born Dec. 28, 1926, in rural Elma, the daughter of William and Margaret (Bilek) Thraenert. She received her education in a county school near Elma. After completion, Rita helped on the family farm for several years. Rita started waitressing in a local cafe in Cresco and it was while working at the cafe her friends arranged a blind date for her. This is when she met her future husband Harland. The couple were married May 22, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Shortly after marriage, they moved onto the family farm near Bassett and soon after moved into their new house in Bassett. It was at this time they were blessed with their two children.

Rita was a devoted mother, taking care of Marita, her daughter with special needs. She was the quintessential mother, helping her husband on the farm when needed, cooking and taking care of the house, and tending to her children.

Rita would raise a large garden filled with a variety of vegetables, was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for herself and her children and lovingly crocheting and quilting for her family. Rita was also a very good cook and was known for her famous potato salad recipe.

Rita is survived by her daughter: Connie (Dale) Poe of Greene; two grandchildren: Becky Poe and Seth (Jacque) Poe; two great-grandchildren: Brendan and Connor Poe; and one brother: Vincent (Sadie) Thraenert of Cresco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harland on May 27, 1988; one daughter: Marita Guthart; her parents; one brother: William Robert Thraenert; and one sister: Kathleen Thraenert.


Theresa A. Baumler

FORT ATKINSON - A Mass of Christian Burial for Theresa A. Baumler of Fort Atkinson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson with Rev. Nick March officiating. Interment will be held in St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery in St. Lucas, Iowa.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 and also after 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson.

Theresa, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Theresa Ann Baumler was born Oct. 31, 1921, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Kathrina (Boyer) Franzen. Theresa was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, and attended school in St. Lucas.

On June 24, 1940, she married Raymond H. Baumler in St. Lucas, and to this union, 14 children were born. They farmed near St. Lucas for many years until Ray's death. In 1982, she moved into Fort Atkinson.

Theresa will be remembered for her quilts, pot holders and baked goods, especially her homemade bread. She loved to play cards and Chinese checkers. She was a wonderful mother and her greatest joy was hearing her children laugh. Theresa was an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. John's Catholic Church, and the Fort Atkinson Senior Citizen Club. In 2004, Theresa received the Governor's Volunteer Award.

Theresa is survived by her children: William Baumler of Ossian, Dale (Mick) Baumler of Anamosa, Dennis (Pat) Baumler of St. Lucas, Darlene (Gene) Olberding of Dyersville, Irene (Donald) Lynch of New Hampton, Daniel Baumler of St. Lucas, Glen (Hopper) Baumler of Fort Atkinson, Jay (Renee) Baumler of Irvine, Calif., Leon (Gail) Baumler of St. Lucas, Ann (Dean) Schaufenbuel of St. Lucas, John (Anjie) Baumler of Buckner, Mo. and Terry (Carl) Schmitt of Fort Atkinson; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Carl Franzen, Irvin Franzen, Francis Franzen, Helen (Ronald) Palmersheim, LeRoy (JoAnn) Franzen; and sisters-in-law: Marion Franzen and Eleanora Franzen.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond "Ray" Baumler in 1981; two children: Theresa Ann in infancy in 1944 and Nancy Havel in 2007; three grandchildren: Sarah Olberding in 1979, Jeanna Lynch in 2007, and Joseph Baumler in 2010; a son-in-law: Joseph Schirmer in 1971; a daughter-in-law: Shirley Baumler in 1978; her parents; siblings: Catherine (Roy) Tierney, Marie (Lawrence) Bruening, Leonard (Mary) Franzen, Raymond Franzen, Theckla Franzen in infancy, Louis (Arlene) Franzen, and Lawrence (Pat) Franzen; and sister-in-law: Madeline Franzen.


Isabelle Kratz, 91

GREEN RIVER, WY - A Memorial Mass for Isabelle J. Kratz of Green River, Wy. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Inurnment will follow in New Oregon Cemetery in rural Cresco, Iowa.

A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco where friends may call from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

Isabelle, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Cast Rock Convalescent Center in Green River.

Isabelle Jean Kratz was born Oct. 15, 1921, in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of John and Bernice (Kinner) Quinn. Isabelle attended schools in Cresco.

On October 6, 1934, she married Glen Edward Kratz in Nashua, Iowa and he preceded her in death in October of 1975.

Her interests included fishing, her dog Chloe, watching western movies, and was an avid reader. She was a resident of Green River for the past one year and prior to moving to Wyoming she spent 11 years living in the Omaha, Neb. area.

Survivors include two daughters: Connie Holthaus and Donna Lukes both of Green River, Wy.; one son: Edward Kratz and fiance Paula of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters: Louise Zahasky of Decorah, Marjorie Halverson of West Union and Doris Osterhoudt of Reno, Nev.; one granddaughter: Dawn (Shawn) Kirchert of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two grandsons: Michael (Nancy) Kratz of Atkinson, Neb. and Robert (Ann) Kratz of Raleigh, N.C.; five great-grandchildren: Alexis Kirchert and Lillian Kirchert both of Council Bluffs, Katelyn Kratz, Madison Kratz and Jayden Kratz of Atkinson, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother: Donald Quinn; and two sisters: Bernice O'Connell and Marion Pilbeam.

Helen Johnson, 77

CRESCO - Funeral services for Helen M. Johnson of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Pallbearers were Ryan, Matthew, Curtis, Mitchell, Logan and Luke Johnson. Interment was held in New Oregon Cemetery in rural Cresco.

Helen, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012.

Helen M. Johnson was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Florence Weir. In early 1936 she was adopted by William D. and Alice (Beach) Hebig of Cresco. Helen graduated from Cresco High School in 1953. After graduation, she was employed by the Cresco School District as a secretary in the principal's office.

On Oct. 7, 1953, she married Clifford "Bud" Johnson of Spring Valley, Minn. They became the parents of eight children and Helen stayed home to care for the family until the youngest child started school. At that time, she again found employment with the Howard-Winneshiek School District as a teacher's aide. A year later, she accepted a position as the office manager at the Cargill grain elevator where she remained until she retired.

Helen had a wealth of musical talent and particularly enjoyed playing both the piano and organ for many years. She looked forward to family gatherings, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and having people come to visit. Helen also loved to read and she spent many hours talking with friends and family on the phone.

Throughout her life, Helen had a deep and abiding faith in God.

She is survived by eight children: Leslie Johnson of Des Moines, Sandra (Larry) Johnson of Des Moines, Neil (Deb) Johnson of Davenport, Craig (Shelly) Johnson of Parnell, Iowa, Mark (Stephanie) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Douglas (Jean) Johnson of Norwalk, Juanita Johnson of West Des Moines and Dan (Lindi) Johnson of Tea, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Howard) Davis of Philpot, Ky. and Sharon Thomas of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband; an infant grandson; her parents; and a sister.


Madonna Recker, 93

ALTA VISTA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Madonna E. Recker of Alta Vista was held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista with Father Steve Garner officiating. Interment was held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista.

Visitation was held 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with a 6 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation continued at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Madonna, 93, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton with her family by her side.

Madonna Elizabeth Recker was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of August and Anna (Delsing) Felder. She attended St. William's School in Alta Vista.

On June 7, 1938, she married Al (Aloys) Recker. They were married 71 years before his death in 2009. The couple was involved in farming for 74 years.

Madonna was actively involved in church and community activities. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, quilting, gardening, playing the organ and bowling.

Madonna is survived by her children: Patricia Recker of Kansas City, Mo., Mary Jane (Cash) O'Rourke of Severna Park, Md., Rose Marie (Helmut) Bonigut of Paso Robles, Calif., Don (Lois) Recker of Cresco, Maggie Rivers (Tom Thiel) of New Holstein, Wis.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters: Rita Ann Nuebel and Helen Ray; her sisters-in-law: Bernice Felder and Delores Felder; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; grandson: Brett Rivers; her brothers: Gene, Ray, Jerry and Bernard; sisters: Irma and Irene; and sister-in-law: Phyllis Felder.

Memorials may be directed to the family.


Shaughnessy McNamara, 56

CRESCO - Funeral services for Shaughnessy "Joe" McNamara of Lime Springs will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at The Lime Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Candraeah Carey officiating. Interment will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy. Visitation will continue at the church today, Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.

Shaughn, 56, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Shaughnessy McNamara was born Sept. 3, 1956, in Leavenworth, Kan., the son of Francis and Wilma "Blue" (Loar) McNamara. He attended and graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth.

On April 18, 1981, he married Kristine "Kristy" Walker at the Presbyterian Church in Lime Springs. Joe worked as the plant manager for Fred Carlson Co., Knife River and Croel Redi Mix Plant in LeRoy for over 25 years. Joe had a great sense of humor, he enjoyed hunting, going for bike rides on his Harley Davidson, spending time with his friends but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his children and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Kristy of Lime Springs; three children: Chantal (Troy) Granahan and grandkids Liam and Audrey of Ankeny, Iowa, Denny McNamara of Lime Springs and Meghan Hill and grandkids Kolton and Nolan of Ankeny; three sisters: Collen (Jim Philen) McNamara of Stillwater, Minn., Rose (Fred More) McNamara of Forest Lake, Minn. and Marlene (Eddie Lopez) McNamara of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Ryleigh Marie Hill; and his parents.

Memorials are preferred to the family in lieu of flowers.



John Wacha, 90

CRESCO - A Mass of Christian Burial for John J. Wacha, Jr. of Cresco will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes with Father Steve Garner officiating. Interment will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, Wednesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, where there will be a parish scripture service at 8 p.m.

John, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at Regional Health Services in Cresco.

John J. Wacha, Jr. was born April 17, 1922, in Howard Towhship of Howard County Iowa, the son of John and Mary (Roman) Wacha, Sr. He attended Howard #7 grade school.

On Oct. 8, 1950, he married Margaret Berka at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, Iowa.

In 1954 John founded Wacha Insurance Agency which his son, John Wacha III operates today. John was active in the business until he entered the Cresco Care Center. He also farmed in Howard County and was one of the first farmers in the area to own a combine.

John was a life-long resident of Howard County and life-long member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, of which he was very active having serving on the parish council, it's various committees and boards as well as the cemetery board. For many years he was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Over the years John was active in the community as a leader in the 4-H, Boy Scouts, on the board of the Maple Leaf Creamery, Co-Chairman of the Lourdes Centennial Committee, sponsored softball and bowling teams was past president and currently honorary member of the Howard County Fair Board and past president of Bohemian Mutual Insurance. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

John is survived by four children: John Wacha III of Lime Springs, Joe Wacha of Cresco, Judy (Donald) Bartels of Elma and Mary Wacha of Lime Springs; four grandchildren: Melissa (Aaron) Schatz and their children Nolan and Alanna, Michelle (Tyler) Schwarck and their daughter Kaylee, Malinda Bartels and Myranda Bartels.

John was preceded in death by his wife Margaret on Dec. 24, 1995; two sisters: Loretta (Adolph) Ludwig and Ione (Harlan) Benson.



Bernece Priebe, 95

CEDAR RAPIDS - Funeral services for Bernece T. Priebe of Cedar Rapids were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Ivan Nienhaus officiating. Interment was held in St. Joseph Cemetery.

A vigil service was held 2 p.m. on Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends were able to visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 9 a.m.

Bernece, 95, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a short illness.

Bernece Theresa Priebe was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Cresco, Iowa, one of six children, the daughter of Daniel and Martha (Grimm) Kapler.

On Nov. 27, 1937, she married Lester Priebe at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco. He died in 1990. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Her love of life was her family. She always treasured music, playing the piano, and singing at family gatherings. She enjoyed spending time outside and in her garden. Her devoted and faithful life in prayer was a big part of her life. She was a caring person with a great memory and was always informed on current national and local news.

Bernece is survived by two daughters: Carol (Jim) Heffernen of Cedar Rapids and Sharon (Ray) Poeppe of Algona; grandchildren: Molly Heffernen of Cedar Rapids, Michael Heffernen of Iowa City, Doug (Kim) Poeppe, Darren (Julie) Poeppe and Dena (Larry) Evers, all of Algona, and Danielle DeRoos of New Ulm, Minn.; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Lucille Williamson of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; a sister: Evelyn; and her brothers: Dennis, Arnold, and Charles.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.



Alfred Bouska, Jr., 81

LAKEVILLE, MN - Alfred G. Bouska, Jr., 81, of Lakeville, Minn. died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn. He was cremated. Private family inurnment was held Dec. 1 at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Bertas Funeral Home in Chaska handled the arrangements.

Alfred G. Bouska, Jr. was born Oct. 3, 1931, the son of Alfred and Mary (Samec) Bouska, Sr. He attended country schools and graduated from Cresco High School. He served in World War II.

On April 20, 1954, he married Grace Carolan at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco.

He is survived by his wife Grace of Belle Plaine; four sons: Tim (Jackie) of LeSueur, Minn., Mark of Chaska, Minn. Alfred III of New Prague, Nick (Tammy) of Chaska, Minn.; daughter: Patty (Steve) Cermak of Arlington, Minn.; grandchildren: Stacy, Steve, Cody, Amber, Alfred IV, Caitlin and Kristen; four great-grandchildren; one brother: Edward Bouska and wife Gloria of Waterloo, Iowa; an aunt: Rosie Bouska of Cresco; brother-in-law: Don Carolan and wife Joan of Cresco; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister: Angie and husband Roger Harris.



Clarence Bartels, 91
U.S. Army  WWII

RICEVILLE - Funeral services for Clarence A. Bartels of Riceville were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating. Interment was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Lourdes, Iowa. Military honors was conducted by the American Legion Roy Gue Post 244.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville handled the arrangements.

Clarence, 91, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.

Clarence Albert Willy Bartels was born Aug. 8, 1921, the son of Fred and Louisa (Westendorf) Bartels. Clarence joined the army in 1942 and was stationed at Camp Walters in Fort Worth, Texas where he married Irene Opat on February 20, 1943. He served in Army Camps in Texas, Mississippi, Colorado, California, before serving overseas in Germany, Czechoslovakia, and England during World War II. Irene and son, Fred, remained stateside while Clarence served overseas. Clarence was honorably discharged from the army in 1944 and he, Irene and Fred returned to Elma, Iowa to farm and eventually moved onto his father's farm near Maple Leaf.

Clarence was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf. On Sundays Clarence would don his best suit in trade of his customary coveralls to attend church, ring the bell or to be an usher aside from being a council member of the church. Clarence enjoyed farming, his family, friends and lifelong army buddies; liked to dance, playing cards, going camping, fishing and snowmobiling and he enjoyed helping others. The grandchildren have many good memories of helping grandpa and grandma on the farm. Clarence endured many transitions during his lifetime including the 1968 tornado that destroyed the homestead. Clarence always had a strong faith in God and did not give up farming at that time.

Clarence had been a resident at the Riceville Community Rest Home since 1998, after being diagnosed with dementia. Irene visited him everyday.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Irene of Riceville; two sons: Fred (Marlys) of Riceville, Jim (Kathy) of Stewartville, Minn.; a daughter: Connie of Cresco; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one

great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law: Helen (Victor) Bartels of

Denver, Iowa, Gladys (Leonard) Bartels of Waterloo, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson: Trent Bartels; his parents; three brothers; and five sisters.



Ann-Marie Crandall, 58

RAPID CITY, SD - A celebration of life for Ann-Marie Crandall of Rapid City S.D. and formerly of Cresco was held at 10:00 a.m. MST on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Kirk Funeral Home. Interment was held in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 5-7 p.m. MST at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Ann-Marie Crandall, 58, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at her home.

Ann-Marie Crandall was born Jan. 31, 1954, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Olaf "Olie" and Marjorie (Olsom) Hansen. Ann-Marie graduated from Crestwood High School in 1972 and attended NE Iowa Votech.

On Dec. 23, 1978, she married James Lee Crandall with whom she had two sons: David (Jillian) of Aurora, Colo. and Joel (Stephanie) of Alexandria, Va. She also had one grandson, Lochlan.

An active member of Destiny Foursquare Church, Ann-Marie was passionate about family, music, art and her faith in God.

Besides her sons, daughters-in-law and grandson, she is survived by two sisters: Loretta (David) Swartz of Rosemount, Minn. and Jeanne (William) Corfits of Rochester, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Rescue Mission in Rapid City, S.D.



Arlene Bohr, 84

CRESCO - A Mass of Christian Burial for Arlene M. Bohr of Cresco will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco with Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation was held 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco with a scripture service held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.

Arlene, 84, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Arlene M. Bohr was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Calmar, the daughter of Theodore and Ida (Holthaus) Timp. She attended rural country school until the 8th grade. Arlene spent the better part of her early adult years in Chicago with her older sisters as a nanny.

On May 11, 1954, she married Wilfred Bohr at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Arlene took pleasure in her life on the farm and made a habit of keeping a daily diary which she started earlier that same year and maintained it for many, many years. She was a dedicated farm wife that helped keep an eye on the livestock, was in charge of the farm bookkeeping, enjoyed gardening, as well as supervising her grandsons mowing the lawn. She cared deeply for her family, and relished hosting family dinners. She was a participating member of the Catholic women's church circles.

Arlene is survived by her children: Debbie (Jim) Storlie of Byron, Minn., and their children, Matthew and Jill Storlie, and step-children, Dan, Mark, and Nicole Storlie; Dennis (Becky) Bohr of Ridgeway, and their children, Nicholas, Leyton, and Tristan; Craig (special friend, Shirley Weber) Bohr of Cresco, and his children, Sadie and Spencer; sisters and brothers-in law: Elsie Timp of Calmar, Viola Bohr of Decorah, Evelyn Bohr of Cresco, Jerry Bohr of Cedar Rapids, Duane and Connie Bohr of Sylvania, Ga., Arlene Bohr of Darien, Ill., and Jeanne and Eugene Hageman of Decorah.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred in 2001; her parents; brothers: Vendolin, Donald, and Duane Timp; sisters: Dolores Kuboushek and Seraphia Tekippe; brothers-in-law: Paul Tekippe, Ray Kuboushek, Duane Lechtenberg, Linus Bohr; and sister-in-law: Rita Timp.

Ervin Sabelka, 96

GREENE - A Mass of Christian Burial for Ervin J. Sabelka of New Hampton was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's Center in New Hampton. Pallbearers were Paul Sabelka, Billy Buckridge, Loran Steinlage, Gary Steinlage, Luigi Rausch and Ron Sabelka. Interment was held in St. Mary's Cemetery at New Hampton, Iowa.

Visitation was held 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with a scriptural wake service a 6 p.m. Visitation continued one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Ervin, 96, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in New Hampton where he has made his home since March 2004.

Ervin Joseph Sabelka was born Dec. 17, 1916, in rural Chickasaw County, the son of Joseph and Mary (Adank) Sabelka. He attended Chickasaw County Schools.

On Jan. 22, 1940, he married Wilma Riehle at St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville, Iowa. They farmed near Reilly Ridge before retiring to New Hampton in 1988. He and Wilma liked to travel by bus, he was an avid gardener, liked to fish and was a Funks G seed corn salesman.

Ervin is survived by his wife Wilma of 72 years; one son: Joe (MaryJo) Sabelka of Lawler, Iowa; three daughters: Leona (Florian) Steinlage of West Union, Iowa; Linda (Bob) Buckridge of Waterloo, Iowa and Laure (Bob) Rausch of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; one daughter-in-law: Norma Sabelka of Lawler, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Ethel Maracheck of Cresco, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by one son: Bill Sabelka; two great-granddaughters: Haley and Hana Buchheit; his parents; one brother: Jerome Sabelka; and four sisters: Eileen Cooney, Florence Shileny, Angeline Riehle and Margaret Balk.

Robert Henry Jr., 77

LIME SPRINGS - Memorial services for Robert "Bob" H. Henry, Jr. of Lime Springs were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at The Lime Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Candraeah Carey officiating. Interment will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery beside his son at a later date.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.

Robert, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. following a lengthy illness.

Robert Howard Henry, Jr. was born March 10, 1935, the only child of Robert Howard Sr. and Alfreda (Peterson) Henry in Washington, Penn. He was raised on the family sheep farm by his father and father's sister, Goldie, after his mother died when he was a baby. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1953, earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science from Penn State University, and went on to graduate school. Bob was in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.

On April 20, 1963, he married Janet Louise Wolfe and to this union five children were born.

An adventurous man, Bob sold his farm to the coal company in 1976, and moved his family to Lime Springs, Iowa to farm the flat ground. He later was an over the road truck driver. His wife, Janet accompanied him the last three years.

After retirement Bob enjoyed his morning coffee at Walker Truck Repair, telling stories with his wry sense of humor. He was a member of Lime Springs United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling with the family, trains, reading westerns, playing solitaire, and carrying on his mother's family tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July. Bob especially enjoyed when the grandkids came to visit.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; his children: Marcie (Gary) Klomp of Lime Springs, Jon of Decorah, Terri Morgan of Austin, Minn. and Sue (Dave) Henkes of Independence, Iowa; and grandchildren: Nicole Klomp, Chelsey and Braxton Morgan and Lilly and Katie Henkes.

He was preceded in death by a son: Craig in 1996; his parents; and his aunt: Goldie.



Barbara Fenske, 70

CRESCO - Funeral services for Barbara J. Fenske of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at First Congregational Church in Cresco.

Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.

Barbara, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 surrounded by family.

Barbara Jean Fenske was born Aug. 11, 1942, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Willie and Alma Helm. She was employed at Donaldson Co. in Cresco for 30 years before retiring.

Barbara was married to William "Bill" Fenske. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Bill of Cresco; three children: Douglas (DeLana) Fenske of Fayetteville, N.C., Karen (George) Glavee of San Ramon, Calif. and Karla Fenske (Lonie) of Decorah; grandchildren: Bailee and Emma Fenske, Andrew (Becky) Fenske, Kelsey, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Anna and Adalee Glavee, Amanda, Nick (Felicia) and Caleb Fenske; six great-grandchildren: Alex and Bella Fenske, Dominic and Landon Fenske, Rieley and Ethan Horsfall; two sisters: Cheryl Cummins and Delores Glassel; one brother: Lyle Helm; and many nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother: Harold.
