Linus M. Franzen

LAWLER - Linus M. Franzen, 78, Lawler, died Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2007 at the New Hampton Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma, with Rev. Marvin Salz as celebrant. The pall was placed by Linus' family. Lector was Jim Hrdlicka; Julie DeSloover and Michelle King presented the offertory gifts. Shirley Riha was Eucharistic Minister.

Burial was in the church cemetery with Travis Mahr, Steve Mahr, Stacy Mahr, Lisa Otters, Matt Robbins and Amy Robbins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Julie DeSloover, Michelle King, Brooke Franzen, Eric Nott, Brooke Mahr and Josh Cranston.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2-7 p.m. at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Lawler, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 6 p.m. Scripture Service, and continued from 8-10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences for Linus may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com.

In life Linus Michael Franzen was born Oct. 16, 1928 on the family farm southwest of St. Lucas, the son of Edward and Rose (Smith) Franzen. He attended St. Luke's Catholic School. On May 31, 1954, he married Anna Hrdlicka at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin. To this union three children were born. The couple farmed southeast of Lawler until retiring in 1998. For 40 years, Linus was a trustee for Stapleton Township. He was a carpenter and also worked for many years at Schmitt Fertilizer, Waucoma, and the Lawler Lumber Yard. In his free time, Linus enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed collecting toy tractors and building birdhouses.

Survivors include his wife, Anna; two daughters, Joyce (Greg) Mahr, Lime Springs and Linda (Roger) DeSloover, Waucoma; one son, Dean (Ellen) Franzen, New Hampton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert (Peggy) Franzen, Waucoma, and Donald Franzen, New Hampton. Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Lenora Hackman, Agnes Pelikian, Luella Holthaus, Emma Franzen; four brothers, Norbert and Julius Franzen, Matthew and Mathias in infancy.

EVERETT, WA - A memorial service for Jerry J. Dykstra of Everett, WA was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Central Lutheran Church in Everett.

Viewing was held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home.

Jerry, 84, died Saturday, January 27, 2007.

Jerry J. Dykstra was born January 12, 1923 near White, SD, the son of Jake and Seibja Dykstra.

He entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps on active duty in January 1941 and served in hospital units in orthopedics in England during WWII. He was honorably discharged in December 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being discharged, he graduated from Parks School of Business Administration in Denver, Colorado in 1947.

On June 10, 1944, he married Adelaide T. Anderson in Waukegan, IL. They moved to Everett in 1952 with their two children, John and Mary Jane. Jerry was in the Life Insurance business for 40 years, spending 34 years with Lutheran Brotherhood Life Insurance Society. During those years he was engaged in the sale of Life and Health Insurance, annuities and mutual funds. He retired in 1990.

Community service was important to Jerry and he demonstrated it by serving on the Board of Directors of Bethany of the Northwest and the Bethany Foundation for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Everett Rotary from 1970 to present maintaining perfect attendance and receiving a Paul Harris Fellow.

As an active member of Central Lutheran Church in Everett for more that 50 years. Jerry served many years as a council member, treasurer, Head Usher and Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his son: Dr. John (Kelly) Dykstra of Lake Stevens, WA; daughter: Mary Jane (Dan) Hahn of Randle, WA; granddaughter: Emily; grandson: Kevin; step-granddaughters: Kelsey (Greg) Garka, and Kara Burt; step-great granddaughter: Ryleigh Bustad; sister: Sadie Brendle of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Adelaide; and brother: Henry.

PROTIVIN - Graveside services for Richard E. Bailey of Bushnell, FL and Protivin, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 22, 2007 at Florida National Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by Marine Corps League #708. Ron Ferguson and Tim Zorba are the officiants.

Richard, 75, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Ospray Point Nursing Home in Bushnell, FL.

Richard E. Bailey was born October 24, 1931 in Bemidji, MN, the son of William and Edith Bailey. Richard attended and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1949. He served in the Air Force for four years after high school.

On July 18, 1953 he married Betty Curtis in Solvay, NY. They lived in Silver Bay, MN where together they raised three daughters: Linda, Julie and Micki. He was employed by Reserve Mining Company.

He was an avid race fan and enjoyed reading, shopping, going out to eat, spending time with his children and grandchildren and their retirement life in Florida.

Richard is survived by his wife: Betty J. Bailey of Bushnell, FL; three daughters: Linda (Tim) Trewin of New Hampton, IA, Julie (Joel) Meirick of Protivin, IA, and Micki (Gary) Pecinovsky of Protivin, IA; six grandchildren: Alyssa Nelson of New Hampton, IA, Derek Nelson of St. Joseph, MO, Alex and Nick Meirick of Protivin, IA and Kristy and Clint Reinking of Protivin, IA; two great-grandchildren: Eric and Kaylee Buckendahl of New Hampton, IA; and one brother: William Bailey of Minneapolis, MN.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.

CHESTER - Funeral services for Mary E. Kelly, formerly of Chester, IA was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2007 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Chester with Rev. Robert Ament officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA.

Friends were to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 11 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, MN where there was a prayer service and Rosary recited by Father John Moser at 7 p.m. Friends were to also call one hour prior to the services at the church.

Mary, 92, died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco where she had resided for approximately two years.

Mary Elizabeth Kelly was born December 5, 1914 in Marion, IA, the daughter of William and Mary (Mullaley) Huntoon. She attended and graduated from Chester High School in 1933.

On April 18, 1938 she married John Kelly at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco and together they made their home on the Kelly farm near Chester.

Mary was active in St. Stephens Altar and Rosary Society, ACCW, Howard County Farm Bureau, Howard County Mental Health Association and The Christian Women Club, as well as being a Stanley Home products dealer for more than 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, antiques, and refinishing old furniture.

She is survived by six daughters: Mary Margaret Kelly of Minneapolis, MN, Connie (Bob) Casey of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Dan) Martin of Lime Springs, Colleen (Pat) Moroney of Monti, Catherine (Peter) Wolff of Plymouth, MN, and Beth Rosenboom of Estherville; three sons: Stephen (Dawn) Kelly of Woodenville, WA, Joseph (Mary Kay) Kelly of Chester, and Patrick Kelly of Mason City; 31 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1991; two daughters: Janet Kelly and Eileen McDermott; one son: John Patrick Kelly; an infant granddaughter: Shannon Wolff; and one brother Joseph Huntoon.

MASON CITY - Funeral services for Cynthia S. Pospichal of Mason City, formerly of Riceville, IA was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville with Rev. John Moser officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville, IA.

Visitation was held Monday, February 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and for an hour prior to services on Tuesday, February 13 at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. There was a 5 p.m. Rosary and a 6 p.m. Scripture on Monday evening.

Cynthia, 57, died Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, IA of natural causes.

Cynthia Sue Pospichal was born on September 17, 1949, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Gerald and Mary Lou (Hentges) Pospichal. She was a 1967 graduate of Riceville High School in Riceville, IA. Following high school graduation, Cindy worked in Cedar Rapids for Collins, and McKesson Pharmacy. She later moved to Charles City and worked for White Farm Equipment. In 1983, Cindy moved to Mason City and attended NIACC and received a degree in Law Enforcement. At present, she was an investigator for the State of Iowa in the Dept of Inspection and Appeals, at the Mason City Office.

Cindy had a loving personality who always was joking and having fun with family and friends, she was known as the “Clean up gal”. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Mason City, and she enjoyed playing in a pool league. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter: Jillian (Chris) Gorgei of Cedar Falls, IA; one granddaughter: Alexis; her mother: Mary Lou Pospichal of Riceville; her brothers and sisters: Linda (Kelly) Wilkinson of Cedar Rapids, Leo (Susan) Pospichal of Delano, MN, Laurie Jensen (fiance Don Blaess) of Ridgeway, Mary (Linus) Luzum of Calmar, Deb (Mike) Mayer of Lakeville, MN, and Joe Pospichal of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her father Gerald on January 29, 2007, and one brother: Thomas.

Visitation was held Friday, February 9 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton with a Masonic Service held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

CALMAR - A Mass of Christian Burial for Glen J. Klimesh of rural Calmar, IA was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Organist was Doris Thompson and Elisabeth Ross was Cantor. St. Wenceslaus choir sang “Here I Am, Lord”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Be Not Afraid”, and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”. Mass servers were Ross Samuelson, Austin Klimesh, and Jackie Samuelson. Lectors were Troy Klimesh and Ben Ross. Intercessions were Jessica Samuelson and Tyler Klimesh, Eucharistic Ministers were Sue Klimesh, Arla Klimesh, Jan and Randy Samuelson, and offertory giftbearers were Sydney Klimesh, Jordan Klimesh, Savanna and Sierra Klimesh. Pallbearers were: Lyle Klimesh, Keith Klimesh, Ronnie Klimesh, Loren Klimesh, Stac Klimesh, Kurt Klimesh, and Kent Klimesh. Private family graveside services were held in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville, IA.

Glen, 73, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, IA after a long illness.

Glen Joseph Klimesh was born August 28, 1933, the son of George and Augusta (Houdek) Klimesh on the family farm between Protivin and Spillville, IA. Glen attended country school near his home and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. 

On September 14, 1954 he married Alice Kriener at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA, and to this union, 10 children were born. Glen farmed near Spillville for 52 years, raising beef cattle and a dairy operation. He enjoyed making maple syrup for many years, with the help of his family. Glen loved his beef cattle, Alice's kolaches and laughing with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Glen was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the First Czech Slovak Ladies Association (formerly the Catholic Workmen), and served as a National Director of the Catholic Workmen for nine years. He served as a trustee for Sumner Township; and on the board of the Foremost Farm Dairy Coop; Farm Bureau and the South Winn School Board Committee. Glen was a member and a director in the State of Iowa and Winneshiek County Cattleman groups for many years. He was instrumental in starting the first “Northland Classic Club Calf Sale”, which recently held its 21st sale.

Glen's survivors include his wife: Alice Klimesh of Calmar, IA; three daughters: Glenda (Dr. Kelly) Ross of Osage, IA, Arla Klimesh of Rochester, MN and Jan (Randy) Samuelson of Phelps, WI; seven sons: Lyle (friend Bertha) Klimesh of Oklahoma City, OK, Keith Klimesh of Cresco, IA, Ronnie (Janice) Klimesh of Lawler, IA, Loren (Sue) Klimesh and Stac (Karen) Klimesh, both of Ridgeway, IA, Kurt Klimesh and Kent Klimesh, both of Calmar, IA; 26 grandchildren; three brothers: Gabe (Mary) Klimesh and Gordon (Shirley) Klimesh, both of Spillville, IA and Gary Klimesh of Rock Island, IL; three sisters: Gayle Hudecek of Cresco, IA, Greta (Herman) Kriener of Spillville, IA and Gloria Klimesh of Waterloo, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents: George and Augusta Klimesh; one grandson: Joseph Klimesh; father and mother-in-law: Joe and Julie Kriener; one brother: George Klimesh; two sisters: Georgina Andera and Gwendolyn Klimesh; one sister-in-law: Alice B. Klimesh; and one brother-in-law: Henry Kriener.
