Hazel A. Buehler dies at 91

Hazel A. Buehler, 91, of the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, died
Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at the center of natural causes.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with burial
in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at Garden View Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the
church.
She was born April 14, 1920 in Lawler, daughter of Andrew and Sadie G.
Johnson Urness. She married Glenn L. Buehler June 4, 1940 in
Lawler. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1990.
Mrs. Buehler was employed as an instructor at Powers Manufacturing for
25 years, before retiring. She was a long time member of TOPPS and
First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth G. (Kay) Buehler of Ferryville,
Wisconsin, and Kevin A. (Janet Collins) Buehler of Waterloo; two
daughters, Shirley J. (James) Duffy of Nampa Idaho, and Shari L. Brackin
of Nampa, Idaho; one brother, Andrew (Jane) Urness of St. Paul,
Minnesota; one sister, Donna Waltz of Elk Run Heights; six
grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law,
Gerry Brackin; and three sisters, Alice Daily, Norma Kerr, and Lois
Anderson.

Lucile M. Davis, age 82, of New Hampton, died on Thursday, Sept. 29,
2011 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at Holy
Family Parish - St. Joseph Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl
Schmitt celebrating. Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at New
Hampton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011 with a
4:30 p.m. Rosary at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton.

Lucile May Hartmann was born on May 22, 1929 at the home of her parents
in Richland Township, Chickasaw County, the daughter and second child of
Jacob P.W. and Florence (Erickson) Hartmann. She graduated from
New Hampton High School on May 22, 1947. Luci was united in
marriage to Eugene F. Davis at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hampton
on June 2, 1947. She was a sales clerk at the Hauth Corner Drug in
her early working years and then became a bookkeeper at the New Hampton
Tribune for several years. Lucithen joined the advertising staff
at the Tribune for 12 years before her retirement in October 1979.
In September 1979, Luciand Eugene organized and established the annual
Davis Motorcycle Rally which was held in New Hampton and continues to
this day. In 1992, she was selected as the Woman of the Year by
the New Hampton Business and Professional Women, which honors business
and professional women who have distinguished themselves in their
careers and communities.
Luci was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center in New
Hampton, where she was a very active volunteer in her church and
community, including the Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and
Hospice. She was a very active member of the American Legion
Auxiliary, belonging to Fae Stine Unit 38 Auxiliary for over 60 years.
She served as Department President of American Legion Auxiliary of Iowa
from 1990-1991. Lucialso held numerous chairmanships and offices
at the post, district, state and national levels. She was a member
of the Iowa Girls State Staff for many years.
Luci is survived by her children Jannette Hendricks of New Hampton and
Gordon F. (Elaine) Davis, Sr. of Sumner; her brother, Albert (Helen)
Hartmann of New Hampton; sister, Ellen (Arlie) Stange of Lawler;
son-in-law, Michael Kobliska of New Hampton; her grandchildren, Gordon
(Melanie) Davis, Jr., Daniel Davis, Neil (Kristyn) Davis, Luke (Ashlie)
Davis, Michelle (Jason) Adams, Kyle Kobliska and Sara Kobliska and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene on June
25, 2000; her daughter, LaVonne Kobliska on December 20, 1991; her
sister, Geraldine Gordon on November 15, 2004 and son-in-law, John
Hendricks on March 5, 2002.

Lee Clair Chester age 86 of Plainfield died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at his
home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at the
First Baptist Church in Plainfield with Pastor Shawn Greer officiating.
Interment will be in Willow Lawn Cemetery with Lisa Chester, Jim
McCurdy, Andi McCurdi-Savago, Katie Savago, Jackie Brazzil, Robyn
Brazzil and Stephanie Frana serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers
are Kendyl Woods, Cooper McCurdy-Savago, Elizabeth McCurdy-Savago,
Jedrek Muehling and Charlee McCurdy. Military honors will be conducted
by the Waverly Amvets.
Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the funeral at the church
on Friday.
Lee Clair Chester was born November 9, 1924, in Plainfield, the only
child of Ralph and Nila (Smith) Chester. He received his education in a
rural country school and graduated from the Plainfield High School in
1943. Lee served his country during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the Army
Air Corp. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Lynes on June 11, 1945, at St.
Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. To this union five children were
born. The couple farmed after Lee returned from WWII until 1969. He then
turned a hobby into a business whereby he became a photographer known in
the area as Foto-Farmer. Lee was one of the first in the area to be
involved in running some of the early computers.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lorraine of Plainfield; two
daughters, Kathy Weber (Bob Brazzil) of Naperville, IL, Bobbi Chester of
Manchester; one son, Reed (Linda) Chester of Grayslake, IL; son-in-law,
Vincent Frana of Cadiz, KY; brother-in-law, Wally Lynes of Plainfield;
sister-in-law, Opal Lynes of Plainfield; seven grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five
step-great-grandchildren; and dear family friend, Norma Nolting of New
Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Diana Frana and
Renee Chester and brother-in-law, Bill Lynes.

Dave Blum dies at 57

Dave Blum, 57, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday,
Oct. 2, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at
Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Funeral services will be at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720
Grand Ave. in West Des Moines on Thursday, October 6 at 10 a.m.
Dave was born at the Naval Hospital on Camp Pendleton in Oceanside,
California on November 25, 1953, the oldest of four boys born to Donald
and Jeanne Blum. In 1953 the family moved to Northeast Iowa where
Dave graduated from Nashua High School in 1972. He was an active
Bulldog participating in numerous sports and school activities. He
then attended Iowa State University and graduated in1976 with a double
major in Psychology and Zoology, and later a Masters of Science in
Education.
He married Dawn Tracy in 1977 and they were blessed with two children.
Dave held various positions in the Fort Dodge and West Des Moines school
system as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He retired in 2011
as Director of Math and Science Curriculum for the West Des Moines
Community Schools. Throughout the years, Dave enjoyed cheering on
the Cyclones, fishing and hunting throughout the Midwest, and was an
avid reader.
Dave will be greatly missed by his wife of 34 years, Dawn; his parents,
Donald and Jeanne Blum; his children, Andy (Michelle) Blum, and Amy
(Todd) White; granddaughter, Mackenzie Marie Blum; and siblings, Steven
(Laura) Blum, Robert (Maria) Blum and James (Nancy) Blum.

Des Moines Community School Foundation in memory of Dave Blum, 3550

Rodney C. Woods dies at 60

Rodney C. Woods passed into the hands of God on Oct. 5, 2011, due to
complications of esophageal cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at
Merle Hay Funeral Home where the family will greet friends one hour
prior.
Rod was born on March 22, 1951, to Roy and Theola Woods in Osceola. The
family lived in Osceola, Loveland, Colo. (6 months) then New
Hampton, where he graduated from high school in 1969. He then
attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1974, with a degree in
urban planning. While in Ames, Rod worked for the Iowa Department of
Transportation as a chainman, an inspector and draftsman and Affiliated
Realty, Century 21 and Gray Real Estate, where several life long
friendships were established.
Moving to Des Moines in 1979, Rod found himself in the investment
business with Merrill Lynch Pierce Funner and Smith, Piper Jaffary and
Hopwood and finally at RBC Wealth Management. He thought it was a
pleasure and privilege to work with so many dedicated investment
advisors and to work with many, many wonderful clients.
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Katie; son, Matthew (Rachel) Woods;
stepdaughter, Meghan (Joe) Szymkowicz; stepson, Jesse Murry;
stepdaughter, Jody Bejarano; first wife, Molly McLean; brother, Roger
(Janice) Woods; aunt Nota Dutton; uncle, Ross Woods and numerous in-laws
and cousins.
The family would like to extend many thanks to the doctors and staff who
assisted Rod in his treatments. Special thanks to the Waukee Rotary and
RBC Wealth Management for their kindness and support for Rod and his
family during this ordeal.
His body has been cremated and will be committed at a later date at the
Murray, Iowa Cemetery.

Glenn Wilberding, age 82, of Elma, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 at his
home in rural Elma.

Glenn Henry Wilberding was born on November 5, 1928 to Anthony and Marie
(Vanderah) Wilberding on a farm near Haverhill. Glenn moved with
his family in 1942 to a farm near Alta Vista. He attended St.
Williams High School in Alta Vista graduating in 1946. He helped
on the family farm before joining the US Air Force. After Glenn’s
return from the military he was united in marriage to Marie Lechtenberg
on June 2, 1953 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina.
To this union 10 children were born. Glenn and Marie farmed near
Alta Vista for 15 years before moving to their present farm one mile
north. The couple enjoyed 57 ½ years of marriage. Glenn also
worked as a security guard at Sara Lee in New Hampton for 21 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering on the farm and
playing with his grandchildren. Glenn was a member of St.
Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Alta Vista VFW Paul Johann Post 4069.
Glenn is survived by his children; Cyril (Ruth) Wilberding of Riceville,
Sue (Mike) Whalen of East Bethel, Minn., Deb (Tim) Grover of Pleasant

Regina Mary Burke was born
November 30, 1923, in New Hampton, the daughter of Raymond
and Mary Regina (Quinn) Nulty. The Nulty family farmed near Lawler where Regina received her education at Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel School and later graduated from the Lawler High School.
Regina then
attended business college in
Mason City and worked for the State Bank of
Lawler.
On August 9, 1945,
at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, she married Emmett
Francis Burke. To this union eight children were born. The couple farmed
the Burke family farm east of New Hampton until moving into town in
1991. She was a longstanding charter member of the neighborhood T.N.T.
Club, enjoyed volunteering with the Chickasaw County Genealogy Society
and attending library Book Discussion group. Emmett died on August 5, 2011, at the age of 95.
Survivors include four sons, Ray Burke of New Hampton, Jerry (Carol)
Burke of Manchester, Tim (Sue) Burke of Apple Valley, Minn. and Joe
(Connie) Burke of New Hampton; three daughters, Kay (Tim) Allen of
Duluth, Minn., Arlene Stewart of New Ulm, Minn. and Melanie Burke of
Maple Grove, Minn; son-in-law, Piet Maarsen of Aalsmeer, Netherlands;
fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter,
Marcella (Burke) Maarsen; great-grandson, Jackson Stewart; son-in-law,

Lloyd Lyle Oltrogge was born
June 13, 1932 to Clarence H and Elfrieda (Buhr) Oltroggeat
Tripoli. He was baptized at home July 3, 1932 by Rev Dilges from St JohnsLutheran church, Tripoli. Lloyd was
confirmed April 14,
1946
at St Johns Lutheran Church
by Pastor M O Jahr. His Bible verses were Psalms 145:18, 19.
Lloyd graduated from
Tripoli
High School in 1951.
He attended Wartburg
College for two years.
He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956, spending most of his time at
the Chemical Corps in Alabama.
In 1956 he attended Iowa State College and graduated in 1958 with an Ag
Business degree.
October 5, 1958 he married Geraldine Lohmann at St.
Johns Lutheran, Tripoli.
Following graduation at Iowa State Lloyd was employed as a grain
merchandiser in Des Moines
for 8 years. In 1966 he started working for Pioneer Hi Bred in Des Moines. In 1968
they moved to New Hampton when Lloyd became a District Sales Manager for
Pioneer in Northeast Iowa. Lloyd
retired
January 1, 1995.
After retiring Lloyd did volunteer work for NE IA Hospice and also the
volunteer desk at Mercy Medical. He was on the board for the Chickasaw Event Center
when it was being built. He was an active member at Trinity Lutheran and
served on the church council and committees.
Lloyd and Geri were interested in the international community and hosted
two foreign exchange students: Jörg Wenzel from Germany and Kaoru Uranofrom Japan.
They have visited both Jörg’s and Kaoru’s homes and also traveled in
many foreign countries and across the US.

Amos Dale Brandenburg was born
December 7, 1924, in rural Wadena, the son of M.R. and Vera
Lucille (Lickiss)
Brandenburg.
He received his education in rural country school near Wadena and was a
1942 graduate of the Alpha
High School. In his youth
he gained the lifelong love for the game of baseball having played on
area town teams. On
November 23, 1962, in Hawkeye, he married Jean Arlene Foot.
To this union two daughters were born. The couple farmed south of
Fredericksburg
until moving into their acreage east of town in 1978. Amos never really
retired from farming as he continued to go to dairy sales, raise
livestock and crops. His work was his hobby.
Amos had previously served on the Dairy Board where he had been named
grand dairyman. He volunteered many hours in the preservation work done
at the local Country School House District 1, was an active member of
the Fredericksburg United
Methodist
Church
and enjoyed visiting friends at local care centers. His wife, Jean died
on May 24, 2010 at the age of
85.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie Allen of New Hampton, Christie
(Jim) Schmitt of Ft. Atkinson; three grandchildren, Justin Allen of
Cedar Falls, Nicole and Jenna Schmitt of Ft. Atkinson; one brother,
Clifford (Rhoda) Brandenburg of Tucson, AZ; five sisters, Virginia
(Dale) Conklin of West Union, Darlene (Lyle) Steege of Fredericksburg,
Beverly (Everett) Hyman of Oelwein, Leitha (John) Ross of
Fredericksburg, Charlotte Wuttke of New Ulm, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; son-in-law,
Brian Allen; four sisters, Marian Briggs, Mavis Laabs, Verla Nieman and
Donna Klotz.
