SUSAN E. ANDERSON 

Susan E. Anderson, age 87, of Rochelle, Illinois, died on February 23, 2002, at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. She was born January 17, 1915, in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Engelbart and Ella (Hinders) Jacobs. She married Francis B. Anderson on October 12, 1935 in Clarksville and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1981. She was also preceded by seven brothers: Bill, Jake, John, Paul, Lawrence, Ernest and Ed Jacobs; and a sister, Helen Hinders. She retired from Rochelle Printing and also had worked for Del Monte Corp. She was a member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church, Hub City Senior Citizens and life member of the Rochelle Conservation Club. Susan is survived by a daughter, Swanetta (Mrs. Douglas) Zuehl of Rochelle, Illinois; two brothers, Vern and Robert Jacobs, both of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Teri and Brad Dickey, Susan and Dave Myers, Lori and Tim Doyle and Vicki and Jim Tuschen; four great-grandsons, Jared and Jeff Dickey and Keane and Thomas Tuschen; four great-granddaughters, Andrea, Calianne, Vanessa and Michaela Myers; and three step-great-grandsons, Shane, Mike and Ben Doyle. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church and entombment was in the Lawnridge Mausoleum in Rochelle on Tuesday, February 26.

KRAMER

Nellie Kramer, 89, of Allison, died on February 5, 2002 at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of natural causes. On January 3, 1913, she was born the daughter of Dick and Mary (Ludeman) Lindaman of Aplington, Iowa. She was raised in the Aplington area and received her education from the Aplington High School. On November 11, 1937, Nellie was united in marriage to Kurt O. Kramer in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a homemaker all her life and was a member of the Allison Bible Church. She enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives and especially her grandchildren. Survivors include a son: Wayne Kramer of Independence, Iowa; a daughter: Lorna Harms of Allison, Iowa; two brothers: Andrew Lindaman of Parkersburg and Gloy Lindaman of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and four brothers. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2002 at the Allison Bible Church with Pastors John Currier and Russell Nesbitt officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Ann Kruse accompanying the congregational singing. Pallbearers were Brent Kramer, Jessie Stradley, Tony Bonfiglio, Michael Harms, Becky Steffen and Matthew Harms. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Lindaman and Becky Kramer Bonfiglio. Final resting place was in the Allison Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison in charge of arrangements.



CRAMER

Hazel L. Cramer, age 99, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born on September 29, 1902, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Her parents were Dr. A. O. and Edith Mae Strout. Hazel graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1921. She continued her education and attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught in Butler County schools for fifteen years. On September 4, 1924, Hazel Strout was united in marriage with Thole G. Cramer at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They owned the Cramer Grocery Store in Parkersburg, and ran the business together until they retired in 1960. Hazel was a member of Compass Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Parkersburg, which later affiliated with Cedar Falls Chapter No. 78, having become a Life Member in 1980. She was also a former member of the White Shrine Chapter No. 4, Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a member of the Butler County World War I Veterans Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary in Parkersburg Historical Society and was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. At 11:40 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2002, Hazel died at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thole, on August 8, 1972; her parents, Dr. A.O. and Edith Mae Strout; and one sister, Dorothy Starr. Hazel is survived by a daughter, Thola Kay and her husband, Duane Tjabring of Allison; a grandson, Scott Tjabring of Allison; a granddaughter, Julie Tjabring Kincannon and her husband, Steve of Charles City, and their children, Lindsay, Nick and Brandy. Private Funeral Services for Hazel Cramer will be Friday, February 8, 2002, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, Iowa, with Pastor Neal Ooms officiating from the Hope Reformed Church. Interment will immediately follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.



KRAMER

June C. Kramer, 75, of Eldora, died from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora, while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. graveside services were held at the Allison Cemetery south of Allison. A memorial fund has been established to the Society for PSP and Hospice of North Iowa. June was born on June 23, 1926, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Martell and Matilda (Rosenthal) Beebe. June graduated from Waverly High School in 1944. On October 20, 1946, June was united in marriage to Melvin “Mel” Kramer in Waverly, Iowa. June was a receptionist and bookkeeper who worked for doctors in Waverly, Allison, and Eldora. They had lived in Eldora for the last 43 years. June was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. She loved gardening, playing bridge, and she also enjoyed reading. June loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband Melvin “Mel” Kramer of Eldora, Iowa; 1 son Jeff Kramer and his wife Nancy of Hampton, Iowa; 3 daughters Julie Gowans and her husband Doug of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jill Ahnen and her husband Jon of Clive, Iowa; Jennifer Kramer of Minneapolis, Minnesota and her fiancé Greg Johnson; 5 grandchildren Annie Kramer, Ali Gowans, Jamie Gowans, Jake Ahnen, Ben Ahnen; 1 brother Richard Beebe and his wife Chris of Marion, Arkansas; 1 sister Nancy Meyer and her husband Jerry of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers Norman, Bob, George, Don, Bruce; 1 sister Norma Beebe.

Funeral services for Lucille D. “Sally” Findlay, 83, of Clinton, Iowa were held at 11:00 a.m. on February 15, 2002, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa with Rev. Bill Michaelsen officiating. Private interment was at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa. The Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zoring-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Lucille D. (Downs) Findlay was born on July 20, 1918 to Harry and Eugenia (Lucas) Downs in Greene, Iowa and died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. She was a 1935 graduate of Greene High School, attended Cornell and was a graduate of the Iowa State Teachers College. She married Harry “Hop” Findlay on May 23, 1942 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1988. She was employed as a teacher in Clinton, Iowa Falls and California. She also owned Sally’s Yarns and Crafts for 12 years. Lucille was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Charter member of PEO KY Chapter and was a Downtown Business Assoc. member and organizer. She had also been employed with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include: Two daughters: Jacqueline Findlay of Clinton and Barbara (Tom) Findlay-Shelstad of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one son: L. Barry Findlay of davenport, Iowa; one sister: Irene Van Dyke of Hillsborough, North Carolina; one brother: Harry Downs of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.


SHOOK

Funeral services for Alvira Evelyn Shook, 81, of Marble Rock were held at the Church of the Brethren in Greene on Monday, February 18, with Rev. Ashok Patet officiating. Alvira Shook was born on June 19, 1921 in Greene, a daughter of Frank and Ruby (Mauch) Shook, and died Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City. She received her education in the rural Scott township country school and graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1939. On April 6, 1941 she was united in marriage to Rob Roy Chambers in Charles City. They made their home in Marble Rock and to this union was born two children. Following her divorce in 1955, she operated Al’s Cafe in Marble Rock until 1961. She later became employed by Jones and Presnell Photography company of Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was a photographer and district manager for the company until her retirement in 1975. She later worked for Floyd County Historical Museum in Charles City as a clerical worker until 1985. Alvira had many interests which included painting, operating her ham radio, and cooking. She enjoyed watching Emeril and his cooking show on television. She was a life long member of the church of the Brethren, and a member of the North Iowa Amateur Radio Club. Those thankful for having shared her life are her children: Sandra and her husband Ted Winters of Marble Rock and Steven “Butch” and his wife Sandy Chambers of Zimmerman, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Robert and Karen Winters of Charles City, Tammy Winters of Des Moines, Billy and Rhonda Winters of Rockwell, Stacy and David Klebs of St. Francis, Minnesota, Scott and Lisa Chambers of Ramsey, Shaun and Bridget Chambers of Elk River, Minnesota; six great grandchildren: Cody, Caleb, Paige, Michael, Katelyn, Taylor; one brother Donald Shook of Winchester, California; and one sister-in-law, Florence Shook of Marble Rock. She will also be missed by her trusty companion Winston, her dog. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Herbert, Kenneth, Harlan, and her twin brother in infancy. Reid’s Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.


KLEINSCHMIDT

Funeral services for Minnie L. Kleinschmidt, 95, formerly of rural Allison, were held February 16, 2002 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar, rural Greene, with Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Burial was in the North Vilmar Cemetery, rural Greene. Minnie L. Kleinschmidt was born April 24, 1906 in rural Jackson Township, Butler County, a daughter of Dietrick and Augusta (Heuer) Kleinschmidt, and died Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison. She was baptized April 29, 1906 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar and later confirmed on April 11, 1920 at Vilmar and received her education at the Jackson Township No. 7 country school. Minnie’s vocation was being a nanny for families in Butler County. She was one of the first women in Butler County to receive a driver’s license. She will be remembered for having a great love for babies and young children, especially for her nieces and nephews. Her interests included sewing, crocheting, and tatting. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and growing vegetables. She loved cats. She took care of all the farm cats and strays who happened to come along. She provided for her family by being an excellent cook which included her German potato salad, and her homemade cakes and other goodies. She was a very resourceful individual who never let anything go to waste. Minnie was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar. Living family members include three nieces: Dorothy Senne and Viola Luchtenburg both of Allison, Marla Senne of Mason City, and one nephew: Floyd and his wife Verlene Senne of Allison, and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Dora Senne in 1977 and two nephews: Ervin Dean Senne on October 9, 1936, and Roy William Senne on September 12, 1977, and a great nephew: Greg Senne on June 22, 1998. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Minnie Kleinschmidt memorial fund in care of the family. Reid’s Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.


LENIUS

Adolph J. Lenius, 89, of Waverly, Iowa, died Friday evening, February 15, 2002, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital of pneumonia. He was born on November 18, 1912, in Washington Township, Bremer County, Iowa, near Waverly, the son of Herman and Sophia (Harms) Lenius. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, and began his schooling at a country school near his home. He then attended St. Paul’s Parochial School, Waverly. After his formal education, Adolph began farming with his father. On September 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Luhring at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. The couple made their home with his parents until 1942 when they moved to their own farm in Douglas Township. In 1961, they moved from the farm and to their home in Waverly, and their son and daughter-in-law, John and Dianne, stayed on the farm. Adolph continued to farm with his son, and did not officially retire until the early 1980’s. Esther died on December 21, 1996, and in January of 2000 Adolph moved to the Clarksville Community Nursing Home where he had since lived. He was a life long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. Adolph enjoyed his large flower and vegetable garden, raising produce for his family and friends. He was an avid reader, a passion he continued right up to the present. Adolph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John W. & Dianne Lenius of Waverly; his granddaughter, Kathleen Lenius and Rod VanderWerf of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandsons, John K. & Tereasa Lenius of Tripoli, Iowa, Kevin Lenius of Waverly; two great granddaughters, Amber and Nicole Lenius of Tripoli; one brother and his wife, Raymond & Dorothy Lenius of Shell Rock, Iowa; and by one sister-in-law, Margaret, Mrs. Lorenze Lenius of Waverly He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Lorenze. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm on Monday, February 18, 2002, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Friends may also call for one hour at church on Monday prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the donor’s choice.
